Forking Tiny tables and an Inexperienced Hostess Story

IMG_6848

I find that service from newly opened restaurants usually isn’t smooth and something will always happen.

We dined at a newly opened restaurant in Glendale AZ.  We were about to forking leave after we were seated because someone turned up the music to an uncomfortable level. My head was forking pounding. Eventually the music did get turned down so we stayed.

We dined at a pizza place and ordered individual pizzas. The pizzas arrive and they were good. They both had nice light crispy crust and were topped with quality toppings and were tasty.

What forking bothered us most about our dining exsperience was not the food or our server but the hostess.

The dining room was basically forking empty. Only us and a single man were seated in the dining room.

IMG_6843

Then the hostess comes up to us and starts removing half our table that she sat us at and forking says something like she needs to table to seat a party of five next to us. We didn’t pick this table she sat us there. This was two two-tops that were pushed together.

The whole place is forking EMPTY and I counted at least forking TWELVE people standing around that looked like wait staff so it’s not like they only had one server on.

She could have forking sat the party of five to our other side or anywhere else in the FORKING dining room but NO she has to disturb us….the only forking people in the room since the single man left by this time. It’s not that I minded having a table next to us. It only was a problem because the tables are very small.

I didn’t finish my forking pizza so I had a box and made the mistake about ordering dessert. I found out latter this was a mistake because the table wasn’t big enough to hold a small pizza box and  a dessert plate.

Someone runs out our dessert to us and says something like,”I don’t know what this is but here it is”. I feel bad for that guy because the restaurant didn’t train him in what he was serving.

The dessert was a mistake to order because we didn’t have room on the small table with the box for forking dessert. My husband insisted we couldn’t put it on top of the box because the box was hot.

IMG_6848

We stuck our box on the empty table on our other side so we could eat the forking dessert.

And THEN the forking hostess sits a forking people at that forking table on our other forking side so we have to pick up the forking box.

Tiny tables and an inexperienced hostess doesn’t usually add up to the greatest dining exsperience.

Binkley’s of Cave Creek Arizona is an Experience Like No Other

One of many Amuse Bouches

One of many Amuse Bouches

Dining at Binkley’s in Cave Creek Arizona is an experience that can’t be compared to any other dining experience I had before and is certainly forking memorable.

Binkley’s doesn’t have the finest atmosphere as it is a small restaurant located in a strip mall. But if you reserve a spot on patio you might get a view of a beautiful cactus studded sunset.

At Binkley’s you can count on some molecular gastronomy, benson burners and a James Beard Nominated Chef to create you some unexpected, playful magnificent courses and get served many amuse bouches all night long. Dinner may take close to three hours so come with an empty belly, a big bank account and forking enjoy the show.

You have a choice of a la carte, multiple tasting menus and expert wine pairing choices. We picked the smallest of the tasting menus the four course tasting menu of one cold, one hot appetizer, a main course, and either dessert or cheese course.

Our meal started with an amuse bouche of miniature gherkins paired with smoked chicken liver   mousse, stone grain house made mustard and crostini and an offering from the bread basket and butter from France. The house made breads were really delicious and well made. The little salted brioche breads were really forking scrumptious.

IMG_6715

We placed our order and soon receive another amuse bouche and a sparking glass of wine.

IMG_6723

We receive a mini coffee cup filled with pear curry soup that’s finished with raisin oil. It doesn’t sound that great but honestly this was really forking delicious.

We received two more amuse bouches before our cold appetizer plates.

IMG_6726

A forking Barbie Sized beef sloppy joe with a fancy potato crisp and the best tasting forking caper I ever had. The tiny sandwich seemed a little too much bread to meat but was packed with flavor and was delicious.

IMG_6728

Tiny savory smaller than a marble sized donuts appear. They were filled with rich mushrooms and disappeared quickly.

Now our cold appetizers  arrive!

Fruit de Mar - Prawn, Crab, Geoduck, Foie Gras, Seaweed, Onion, Radish, Chile, Mango

Fruit de Mar – Prawn, Crab, Geoduck, Foie Gras, Seaweed, Onion, Radish, Chile, Mango

My husband had the Fruit De Mar. He was sort of excited to try Geoduck for the first time but couldn’t figure out what forking morsels were geoduck.

I had the Asparagus as my cold plate.

IMG_6731

I had a very small but crispy puntarelle ( a kind of chicory)  on my plate. lots of little dots of liquid that tasted sort of mushroomy, a smear of caramelized onion creme fraiche and a mound of smokey sun choke salad and all harmonized like an orchestra in key.

This next amuse bouche photo is bad but I’m forking using it anyway.

IMG_6733

Pellets of frozen grapefruit and blackberries arrive.

The most flavorful and my favorite plate of the evening arrives next.

IMG_6737

The Black Truffle Acorn Squash Risotto. This was mind Blowing crazy good!

Fresh shaved perigord truffles and this magical delicious cream that just taste amazing on the best acorn squash I ever had.  You can always count on at least one mind blowing crazy good dish here.

My husbands favorite dish was also his hot appetizer.

IMG_6739

It was called a Choucroute Garni and was made with bresaola, duck confit, trotter (pig feet), and root vegetables.

Next came an amuse bouche of house made tangelo soda.

IMG_6740

I ate too much of the squash and was full by now but next was dinner.

IMG_6743

I had the Ocean Trout. It was a very tiny portion and I was able to eat it. It wasn’t as complex as Binkley’s usually prepares and was forking good but sort of not what I was expecting from here.  I think the tiny crisp on top of the fish might have been an artichoke but I wasn’t sure.

My husband had the Cider Braised Pork.

IMG_6741

He squealed with delight  when he saw the bacon (pancetta) on top of it. He said it was very good.

Now they forking bring over a Benson Burner kind of contraption and prepare table side hibiscus tea that’s flavored with fresh rosemary and meyer lemon.

IMG_6750

An amuse bouche of candy apple cream brûlée arrives. It taste just like a creamy candy apple.

IMG_6753

Followed by a really delicious mini root beer float.

IMG_6755

Now my dessert arrives.

IMG_6758

On a hot sizzling skillet and in some sort of bag arrives Butterscotch Pecans en Papillote topped with brown butter ice cream and a black pepper cinnamon twist along with salted pecans arrive.

The ice cream was very smooth and nicely flavored. The pecans were of a better quality than the ones I forking normally eat as they were very creamy inside and flavorful. I was already very full and couldn’t eat much of this. This wasn’t my favorite as it seemed like a melted pecan pie. Maybe I was just too forking full to enjoy this one.

My husband had a delightful cheese plate.

IMG_6761

They gave us one more amuse bouche.

IMG_6764

They were some kind of apple pectin fruit jells.

They thanked us for coming and gave us little bags of granola to take home.

Chennai Chettinaad Palace South Indian Buffet Phoenix AZ

IMG_6644

Ever have Sambar, Rasam, Upma Pulav, or Dum Aloo before?

You really get the feeling you visited India when you dine at Chennai Chettinaad Palace in Phoenix Arizona. Indian Television is playing on the large screen TVs above the bar. Unfamiliar but fragrant spices fill the air. The restaurant was packed with people and everyone except us were of Indian decent.

We were seated and I sort of expected someone to greet us at the table but after a while the person that sat us just said “it’s a buffet you help yourself.” As I approached the buffet I noticed a grade “A” Maricopa health inspection and that one side of the buffet was strictly vegetarian and five meats dishes were on the other side. Three dishes were chicken, one dish was fish and the last meat dish was goat.

IMG_6647

The Buffet started with appetizer savory mini donuts and a few vegetable soups one of the soups was called rasam and is a tamarind based vegetable soup that was more flavorful than the sambar vegetable soup.

IMG_6651

Some of the vegetable dishes had more heat to them than the meat dishes but it was a gentle heat that didn’t build.

Some of the vegetarian dishes were-

Upma- A porridge with vegetables

Pulav- Spicy long grain fluffy rice with vegetables

Dum Aloo- Baby potatoes curry

Channa Palgk- Spinach with Chickpeas

Baby Corn with Chilies

Dhal Tadka-Lentils

Mutteer Panger-Peas and Cheese

IMG_6646

IMG_6655

Most of what I tried was delicious. Very flavorful food. Only two things I didn’t care for that I tried was the Dahi Vada and the Upma due to that I wasn’t brought up eating them. People that are new to Indian Food might have a hard time with lentil dumplings in yogurt and vegetable porridge.

I tried small amounts of the chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, chicken bryani and the fish curry. I found them all to be fresh and well prepared for a buffet meaning not dried out.  The meat dishes were all delicious I think anybody would like them. They had interesting flavorful spices to them. They all differed but all were interesting. Nothing was too salty or oily.

Desserts looked very foreign to me.

IMG_6657

Small fragrant soaked fritters were in one pan called Gulab Jamun. I skipped over the second pan and did try some of the carrot halwa that’s basically carrot pudding seasoned with cardamon and cashews.

It felt like a trip to India but with much better traffic and my trip only cost $13.99.

IMG_6615

I couldn’t photo the water feature but water was flowing down the crack. (looks a little like a forking butt doesn’t it? but it’s a pretty butt)

The most beautiful resort I’ve seen in the Metro Phoenix area.

Several Restaurants can be found at the Boulders. We decided to pop into The Grill at the Boulders. They do have a lovely dining room that overlooks the golf course but only one waitress was on and we didn’t want to make her forking run from the bar to the other end of the building so we sat in the bar area that has a view of the forking golf shop.

I saw New York Pastrami on the menu so I had to ask if it really was New York Pastrami or just New York Style. I was told New York Style and ordered it because it was house made.  After a little while I received it.

IMG_6624

I liked that the meat wasn’t too fatty and also not too lean. It was very unique in flavor with an unusual spice in it that I think might have been cloves. The meat was delicious, flavorful, and moist. The sandwich was layered with a very small amount of fresh crispy but average coleslaw and was held together with some sort of grained pumpernickel bread. The fries were hot, fresh and lightly salted but slightly disappointing because they seemed like fast food kind of fries. I also thought house made pickle might come with this sandwich because it cost around $15.00.

My husband tried the BBQ Brisket grilled Cheese.

IMG_6622

Both sandwiches came with an enormous amount of fries. The brisket inside was very moist and flavorful. The bread was grilled nicely and quality cheddar cheese was used but for some reason this sandwich seemed more like a brisket sandwich with cheese other than the grilled cheese with brisket that we thought it would be. Also priced at around $15.00.

We found the service to be friendly and efficient.

The Grill at the Boulders and the Palo Verde Restaurant at the Boulders in beautiful Cave Creek AZ both participate in the Scottsdale preferred savings card and if you have one you can get one meal for free.

Zahav Restaurant in Philadelphia PA is Absolutely Worth a Fork !

Zahav Restaurant Philadelphia PA

Zahav Restaurant Philadelphia PA

Zahav in Philadelphia PA is a multi award winning restaurant and has a James Beard award winning Chef/Owner. I saw Zahav featured on the Travel Channel with Anthony Bourdain and decided that one day I’d try this restaurant.

Zahav is a modern Israeli Restaurant that offers authentic Middle Eastern Cuisine.  The flatbreads called laffa are baked in an authentic wood burning oven called an Arabic Taboon. The skewered meats and fish are cooked on live coals.

The atmosphere is seductive with lanterns and the walls look like sandstone. The focal point is the energetic exhibition kitchen where you can view the action threw textured and stained glass.

The ever changing vegetable heavy menu is mostly made of small plates that are meant to be shared. However enough meat items are on the menu to please meat eaters alike.

Israeli Wines and a very interesting  and unique cocktail menu are offered. I tried a cocktail called the Harif, it was made with some sort of hot pepper liquor and other ingredients. I liked that it wasn’t too sweet and the heat and liquor volume was enjoyable.

We started with what they call salatim, a variety of cold vegetable salads, hummus and fresh from the wood oven hot laffa bread. Every salad was very detailed and layered with flavors and every salad was delicious. It’s too hard to pick a favorite because they all were so special. The fresh baked laffa bread was also delicious and I never had hummus like that before. It was so light but creamy and more delicious than any other I ever tried before. I never knew hummus could be like that. My husband isn’t a big fan of this kind of cuisine but even he was amazed by how delicious everything was and even he who dislikes hummus thought this one was very good and kept eating it too.

Then we got 4 warm plates to share. Each one of them was like nothing else I ever had before. Again very layered with flavors and also very detailed all all delicious. We had roasted brussels sprouts with brussels sprouts tehna, Bulgarian Feta, and pickled lemon. My husband kept eating them and kept saying over and over how really great they were.

IMG_6491

Fried cauliflower was served over a chive labaneh, with dill, mint and garlic.

IMG_6492

Crispy haloumi was over cooked dates and topped with pickled onions, walnuts and a turkish pepper called urfa thats sort of raisin like with a slight building heat.

IMG_6487

Yemenite Beef Stew was melt in your mouth tender beef that came with a potato.

IMG_6490

And house smoked sable with house made challah bread, soft egg and fresh herbs.

IMG_6485

If you are counting that is five plates. I don’t know if it’s typical or not but they gave us the delicious brussels sprouts as an extra dish. We kept waiting for one dish to be disappointing or not so great or just ok but that never happened. Everything far exceeded our expectations.

Next was our main plates and yes I was full by now. I had the branzino. It came with cerlery root,  apples and tzatziki. I never had fish cooked better anywhere and I’ve been to many of the best places and I almost always order fish. This fish was absolutely perfect and delicious. I never eat the skin but here it was crisp and delicious. Everything on the plate complimented everything together.

IMG_6494

My husband picked something duck. I don’t recall what it was called. He thought of the dish as duck meatballs. I KNOW it wasn’t called duck meatballs but he said he didn’t know duck meatballs could ever be that delicious. He they were the most delicious duck meatballs he ever had and was glad he picked them to eat.

IMG_6493

The desserts we tried were prepared just as well as everything else we tried. I never had a baboosa before so I ordered the pumpkin baboosa served with mascarpone, cranberries and walnuts. It wasn’t too sweet and had a nice light texture to it. I liked the almost tart fresh cranberries they the perfect accent and went really well cutting threw the rich cream and that crumble was just so tasty.

IMG_6496

Our other dessert was the Honey cake bread pudding with green apple frozen yogurt, apple compote, and golden raisins. When you got a spoonful of everything at once it was very refreshing with interesting textures and flavors.

IMG_6495

Service was very informative, friendly, and efficient. We were checked on often. Our plates and silverware were cleared and changed as needed. Crumbs were removed and we were personally thanked by the manager for coming in.

This restaurant is located in Old Town Philadelphia PA in the Society Hill Section. With limited street parking available you most likely will need to valet park at the Ritz Garage or the Sheraton   Garage. You also need to be able to walk over the old cobblestone street and walk up a few stairs to dine at Zahav.

Grilly Cheese Glassboro NJ

Grilly Cheese Glassboro NJ

We were forking tired after a day of traveling with connected flights with delays.

Grilly Cheese Glassboro NJ

Grilly Cheese Glassboro NJ

This casual Grilled Cheese Restaurant called Grilly Cheese seemed comforting  and just right for a casual dinner.

They also offer hot dogs and a few other things but we decided to go with grilled cheese sandwiches.

I ordered a Rueben Steiner. It was described as a sauerkraut and Swiss Cheese grilled sandwich topped with dressing and corned beef. To me it sounded like a knife and fork sandwich but it was just a regular rueben with a not so forking cheesey inside.

Grilly Cheese Glassboro NJ

Grilly Cheese Glassboro NJ

I opened the sandwich and ate the corned beef. It was tasty and seemed better than most forking corned beef I can find in Arizona. The bread from my sandwich was grilled nicely but it wasn’t cheesey like a melty grilled cheese sandwich. My sandwich came with a cup of tomato soup. The  soup was very thin but was made with a touch of cream and had a lot of fresh basil in it.

IMG_6391

The omelette had a batter taste to it like they might have added a little forking pancake batter to it. Inside was spinach that seemed like prepared from frozen and a better quality American Cheese than what I can buy in Arizona. The home fries had a crunchy exterior and were fluffy inside. The seedless rye bread had a deep rye flavor. Service and the food were forking speedy and quick!

Our table mostly had luncheon parmesan platters of chicken, veal, and eggplant. They were of generous size and came with nicely prepared pasta and a choice of use house made vegetable orzo soup or fresh green salad. Most of us shared a few desserts since Mrs. Cotardo made them herself. Most of us mentioned that the desserts were very good. I thought the Tartufo was delicious.

So our next few meals were at the Grill at the Reserve located in the Embassy Suites Hotel at the Philadelphia Airport.

With a forking two star average on Yelp I was expecting the worst but honestly it was forking OK and not great but OK food. I wasn’t forking stupid enough to order a forking $40.00 meal here so

The Grille at the Reserve Embassy Suites Philadelphia Airport Steak Salad

for dinner I figured I’d try the steak salad. The steak was seasoned and cooked to medium. The salad seemed fresh made. The eggs, cheese, tomatoes and croutons weren’t the best but the salad was an overall ok to me since it seemed fresh and the meat was tasty.

I was able to have one great meal out and it came from the James Beard winning Chef Solomonov his multi awarding winning restaurant called Zahav.

Zahav Restaurant Philadelphia PA

Zahav Restaurant Philadelphia PA This was just the starter before 8 more plates to come

There is too much to say about the Israeli Restaurant called Zahav that translates to mean gold in Hebrew. The menu is made of up mostly small vegetable plates that are amazing and very detailed. Meats are on the menu and are cooked on live coals and the ones we tried were really forking outstanding. My Branzino I had was prepared as well or better than from the finest forking fish house out there can make it. The Cuisine at Zahav is Middle Eastern with a Modern Farm Fresh Approach. Even my husband who isn’t found of this kind of cuisine thought everything he tried was better than forking very good and was indeed exceptional forking cuisine.

That was the majority of what I forking ate from New Jersey threw Pennsylvania.

Cafe Nordstrom is Forking Better than the Food Court

A few of the house made desserts at Nordstrom's Cafe

A few of the house made desserts at Cafe Nordstrom

At the Scottsdale Fashion Plaza in Scottsdale Arizona there is a very above average cafe located in the Nordstrom’s Department Store called Cafe Nordstrom. (On Nordstrom’s Webpage it’s called the Marketplace Cafe) All the food is made in house and they use mostly organic, cage free eggs and local food as much as possible. (It’s Arizona the forking desert not everything can come from forking here.) The cafe is really a cafeteria and that’s the only bad part if you are carrying packages. You pick up your tray and order from the station you feel like forking ordering from where they fresh make the food for you and then you slide your tray to the cashier and pay.

The bulk of the menu are these really interesting gourmet salads they offer. I’ve had many different ones over the years and am always impressed by how nice they really are. The Cafe offers about half a dozen different kinds of salads, a few sandwiches, soup, pizzas, pastas, couple entries, a special of the day and many made in house desserts. They also serve beer and wine and speciality coffees.

This time I tried the Berry, Blue Cheese and Chicken Salad.

Berry Blue Cheese and Chicken Salad from Nordstrom's Cafe

Berry Blue Cheese and Chicken Salad from Cafe Nordstrom

WOW what a great salad! This sure forking beats anything from the food court. Lots of plump berries, tangy blue cheese, fresh mixed greens, some sort of candied walnut granola croutons and perfectly poached chicken. This salad was satisfying but still seemed light because of the berries. I liked the sweet against tangy thing going on in this salad.

My husband had some sort of Steak Sandwich that came with potato chips.

Great Ethnic Casual Forking Inexpensive EATS in Metro Phoenix AZ

A bunch of these little ethnic eaters are opening up all over the metro Phoenix Area. I’m talking about the kind of places where you order yourself, pay, and seat yourself kinds of places. All these places are forking inexpensive. These are places were the entree is usually less than $9.95. I have no forking idea how they can prepare quality food at such low prices. These are all places that prepare very above average foods that impressed me.

Suh Noi - The Little Thaiger Scottsdale AZ

Suh Noi – The Little Thaiger Scottsdale AZ

Suh Noi – The Little Thaiger  in Scottdale AZ serves up mostly serious Thai Cuisine in a fast casual atmosphere. This tiny cafe with a patio even has a drive thru. (i’m not forking sure how the fork that can work out)

Not many Thai places serve up Wild Boar. You can even oder your forking boar Thai Style. (Thai style means hand chopped meat with a crispy fried egg) Not every Thai Restaurant offers Thai Style.

Wild Boar Grapao

Wild Boar Grapao $7.99

I had the Holy Basil Chicken.

Holy Basil Chicken

Holy Basil Chicken $7.99

The Holy Basil Chicken is chicken, chili’s, garlic, fish sauce and fresh basil. My dish came out a little spicier than I wanted but was made with enough basil and it was Holy Basil to Boot! I noticed the majority of Thai Places in Metro Phoenix don’t use enough basil in their dishes (you actually need a certain number of leaves a person or a small bunch for this dish to be made correctly) and I haven’t been to another in the area so far that actually uses the Holy Basil that differs in taste from Thai Basil. The Holy Basil has some heat to it and supposedly has more nutrients in it. Anyways the food was forking good and very above average. Who knew from a little unassuming place with a drive thru you’d get some serious Thai Food. (that’s also forking cheap)

Another Great Quick Casual Eatery is Hummus Xpress in Tempe AZ

The Plate from Hummus Xpress Tempe AZ

The Plate from Hummus Xpress Tempe AZ

Hummus Xpress in Tempe AZ is a small Middle Eastern Cafe that serves up their cuisine “Subway” or “Chipotle” Style. They build up your Pita, Bowl, or Plate (priced $6.45-9.95) for you from behind a window front buffet line from what you pick. The Food is Chef Inspired Middle Eastern with a Lebanese flavor and the owner has been culinary trained and it shows.

This place is off my beaten path so we got Plates to try as much as possible. I tried delicious spicy carrots, lemon broccoli, flavorful moist brisket with au jus, Lebanese Falafels, beetroot hummus, regular hummus, (from my husband’s plate lemon ginger hummus ((P.S. there is a lot of hummus here, many flavors hence the name Hummus Xpress))  tabbouleh, pickled beets, some sort of onion salad, schug sauce (spicy complex herb relish unique to the Yemen Cuisine) and if that wasn’t enough it also came with seasoned rice and a fresh made pita bread. Everything was made fresh in house and everything was delicious. I just asked for a lid when I was done and had more than enough for another meal.

I never had a Banh Mi Sandwich before. So when the Banh Mi Bistro – Vietnamese Eatery opened not too far from me I had to give that a forking try. Bahn Mi Bistro is a small family owned business that specializes in the Vietnamese Sandwich called the Banh Mi.

I looked at the menu and noticed the very low prices. Not everything but most of the menu was priced at $5.00. I thought the food would be forking tiny and not very filling since it was so low priced. I ordered a grilled Chicken Bahn Mi and a lotus root salad. (also $5.00)

I soon receive my $5.00 Grilled Chicken Bahn Mi and it’s generously packed with juicy seasoned moist chicken, daikon radish carrot salad, fresh cilantro, spicy jalapeños, a flavorful magical sauce of some kind and house made aioli. I think the bread was made fresh in house too. This sandwich was forking delicious and tasty and I got the other half for latter.

I also ordered the lotus root salad.

Out came a BIG bowl of salad with Lotus Root.

I’ve never seen lotus root like this before.

IMG_6063

It’s like baby lotus roots. It so much more tender than what I have purchased from the Asian Market. They tossed the lotus roots in a mild Asian vinaigrette with crushed peanuts and fresh cilantro. This was a very nice salad that I think most people would like if they tried it. This place isn’t too far so I will be going back to try other things like a minty noodle bowl and the Vietnamese frozen build your own fruit desserts.

These are just a very few of the Great Casual Inexpensive Ethnic Eats in the Metro Phoenix Area.

Stop# 3 – The Search for Lox in Metro Phoenix – Part 3 – Partial Success

My forking search for Lox means a Deli that serves a proper tasting Pastrami on Real Rye Bread, A traditional Potato Knish and of course Lox. Since the closing of Abe’s Deli in Scottsdale AZ I haven’t found anyone that actually serves real hand carved Lox. The word lox is a lose term and all that I found available anywhere so far has been Nova or Nova style salmon to be technical.

We stopped in at New York Bagels and Bialy’s in Scottsdale AZ. I ordered a Whitefish Plate with an Onion Bialy.

I received forking this.

IMG_5995

Look close and notice all the bloodline and how DRY the fish is.

IMG_5993

I never forking seen a bialy that looked like this.

I was expecting something like forking this.

Picture from www.thefreshloaf.com

Picture from www.thefreshloaf.com

When the waitress checks on us I do mention how dry the fish is.

The manager soon runs over and is very upset because her help accidentally gave me the forking fish ends you don’t serve people and runs me out some fresh fish.

IMG_5996

The fresh fish is forking better and not dried out and fishy and condensed with salt.

My husband got a 1/2 corned beef, half pastrami on their house made rye bread.

The corned beef was a little weak tasting but OK and not bad. The Pastrami was almost the same in taste as the corned beef.  I didn’t taste the rye bread but my husband said it was the fluffy kind that doesn’t really taste like rye. I’m certain some people prefer the sandwiches this forking way and they are perfection to them.

We took home some lox, cream cheese and 6 bagels.

So the next morning I ate this.

IMG_6005

The fish was better quality than what I found at my previous stops and also cut much nicer too.

I liked the size of the bagel it wasn’t too big but it tasted like it was missing salt and lacked the chewy doughy texture that you look for in bagels. Maybe on some days it’s better than other days.

I didn’t try a knish on this stop but I do consider this partial success because the lox was good.

At this point I doubt I will be able to find Good Lox and a Good Pastrami on Rye in one location but I still will forking try.

We were forking on the way to AJ’s BBQ and forking discovered it wasn’t open. I’m not sure if it was closed because it’s winter here or if they only have it on Saturdays.

So we had to find another forking place with a patio that allows dogs.

I noticed a nice size almost empty patio only a few shops down from AJ’s. It was Pei Wei Asian Bistro. I know it isn’t the forking best for Asian Food but I thought I remembered it was OK for Green Curry. I walked in and asked if I could bring my dogs on the patio and was told yes. I found out they changed their forking menu and no longer serve Green Curry.  I ordered a few plates. Then I tried to get silverware and had a hard time finding silverware without forking paper stuck to it.

Then I sat on the patio with my party and waited.

So here’s the Kung Pao.

I tasted one chunk of beef from the Kung Pao. The Beef was very spongy and very salty. I thought the dogs would get sick if they tried it.

And here’s the Ginger Broccoli.

I tasted a chunk of chicken. The chicken was tender but had a very strange taste from the sauce. The forking sauce was very salty and very sweet. It tasted like salty soy sauce mixed with some kind of sweet syrup laced with chemicals. I didn’t taste anything like ginger in this dish. The broccoli looked good but had a very strong taste to it like maybe it was decomposing. They gave me a very generous portion of brown rice but it just soaked up that forking flavor from the sauce and tasted forking contaminated to me.

I gave my dogs some to taste.

He ate it but I could tell by looking at him what he thought.

My other dog was looking at a bird instead of the food.

This is how my dogs look when they enjoy food.

And this is how they forking look at Pei Wei

"What the Fork is this?"

“What the Fork is this?”

Even if it was just an off day.

I don’t think we will be going back to Pei Wei.
