It’s normal to see a spill at my local Smith’s Grocery Store but this spill is different and looks a lot like Mr. Bill. …….BUT….Don’t think it’s normal to come back a few days latter and see three more spills?

Instead of just mopping it up they laid out little orange pads and took the time to put up a cation sign.

Then I see a spill of flour.

Then I see another spill. Again instead of mopping it up they just put a caution sign up.

Last week I saw dead basil plants for sale there.

Food out this week was all very good.

Had a nice dinner at Pho Aimie. It’s our local Vietnamese Restaurant. So far it has always been good. Below are pictures from several visits.

Just discovered a local food truck – Tres Tacos Birria De Res that parks near my local Smith’s Grocery Store. They make tasty well packed double shelled street tacos and other things. So far we’ve only tried the street tacos. Below is one of each of the street tacos they offer.

Another WORST of the year came from Fox Smokehouse BBQ. It was their macaroni and cheese and their pulled pork. The macaroni and cheese maybe can win a prize for WORST ON THE PLANET. It was mushy pasta mix with something like Velveeta, topped with some real cheese that didn’t melt in.

And LOTS of BURNT CHEESE mixed in.

NOBODY wants lots of globs of BURNT CHEESE. How the FORK did something like this come out of the kitchen? This is TRASH!

The pulled pork was so dry and stringy that you could use it as dental floss. This is also a big fat miss.

Best of the week was the Bulgogi Steak from Moo Woo Korean BBQ.

Gosh this was tender and SOoooooooooooooooooo Delicious!

It’s pretty rare that the best and worst of the week come from the same restaurant. The Best plate of the week was from Amador Cocina Fina. When there GET THE MUSHROOMS!

This was oyster mushroom yakitori with hoja Santa pesto, Tokyo negi, and sesame seeds. Other plates were good too especially the branzino, and the eggs with shrimp and house made potato chips. It was more good than bad but this one plate just didn’t even seem like it came from the same restaurant and chef.

The Flambe Tarte – Pastrami, Manchego Cheese, Caramelized Onions and NOT MENTIONED ON MENU TONS and TONS of Creme Fracihe -, BLECH!

We periodically go to Soulbelly BBQ downtown in the Arts District. The menu changes some from time to time and they also offer specials. But maybe on half our visits I usually get a fresh ground in house Smoked Brisket Burger. It’s usually very good and reasonably priced. My husband also maybe on half our visits get this sandwich called Belly of Soul (Smoked Brisket, Cheese Sauce, Pickled Onions, Spicy BBQ Sauce, Fried Egg, Crispy Onions).

A really great surprise came from Haochi Mama. The Crispy Eggplant Strips really are amazing!!!!!! They are a BOMB of deliciousness. They also have this shattering crisp caramelization and inside is sweet mild creamy eggplant. GET THIS! (but I do note that this dish does lose the shattering crisp exteriors for taking it home but still is delicious)

Enjoyed Good BBQ at TWO restaurants this week. Up above was the 1/2 chicken from SNS Diner BBQ. I’ve found that some of their dishes there are inconsistent but the 1/2 chicken has always been a winner so far. It also is a lot of food and I got three meals out of it and shared a bunch with my dogs. My husband said that the Brisket Philly and side of sausage was also good.

The other VERY GOOD BBQ was from Wild Fig BBQ. My husband a two meat plate. (we got three meals out of this) This one was pulled pork, smoked turkey (three slices and each slice is really a meal and it really is delicious moist turkey). 2 corn muffins, green chili, and macaroni and cheese (minus the hot Cheetos dust)

I got their fabulous cured in house and smoked Pastrami on rye sandwich (this is two meals for me) It does differ ever so slightly each time but is always very good.

They didn’t have the BBQ-ED Eggplant today so I tried the Mexican Corn Salad. Not bad but not my favorite.

The BIG Surprise of the week was FORKING AMAZINGLY delicious and tender food from the newly opened Chef’s Kitchen. They offer globally inspired Brunch and Lunch. We tried the Romanian Short Rib and the Supreme De Poulet Farci (Chicken stuffed with Rice). OMG!!!!!!!! Both dishes were the most tender meats that I have ever tried anywhere and BOTH had perfect concentrated flavors to them. Oh and that Ice Cream Sandwich Croissant is sure MIGHTY TASTY! too!!!!

We also went to Rang’s Cocina Moderne. They offer an unusual menu of Italian, Spanish, mixed with a little Asian. We regularly go there because the food and service is always perfect. This time we had the smoked salmon toasts appetizer, the three cheese garlic salmon, and the carbonara. Don’t know if you know but it is very hard to find restaurants that cook salmon to perfection. Rang’s is among the few where you can order the salmon and it will be perfect and delicious.

Most fantastic bites of the week came from the newly opened Hayworth in Henderson. It’s an unusual steak house with elevated delicatessen foods. (The sablefish is to die for. Even my husband who rarely ever orders fish said that it was so good that he could order it).

Also tried The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills POP UP at Red Rock Resort. Gosh we had to wait an hour in line. Some people waited several hours. The food was ok and they gave out lots of complimentary cheese.

It was a pretty exciting week. The New Marketon Super Market Just Opened on Craig Road. They offer your usual Grocery Items and a lot of Latino Foods and More!

We also got to try the also newly opened Amata Modern Thai Restaurant. It’s by the former executive chef of what was considered one of the best Asian Restaurants on the strip. I’m happy to say what we tried was very good.

We also enjoyed very good sandwiches from 702 Sandwich Shop.They used to be called La Cantina. Same place same people. Great sandwiches and also great desserts there too.

Most Notable Food of the week was from Wexler’s Deli in the Aria Food Court. That LITTLE FOOD STAND is the only Deli that cures and smokes their own Pastrami and Lox. They also make their own bagels. Wexler’s Deli used to be California Based and had Several Locations in California and some across the country. Wexler’s is now down to only one location in the Aria Food Court on the Las Vegas Strip. They also do mail order lox.

Worst of the Week was Rincon de Buenos Aires. I must note that most people out there will not agree with my opinion. They currently have a 4.5 rating out of 5 on Yelp. I must say they do give you TONS of steak that is very reasonably priced so most people are cool with that. I only enjoy tender flavorful steak that is moist so I am too picky to enjoy this.

My dogs didn’t agree with me either and think that the steaks are amazing.

Best Restaurant of the week is James Beard Nominated for Best Chef – Calabash African Kitchen. We shared Fataya Pies (vegetarian Empanadas), Red Snapper Platter, and their Famous Jollof Rice. All was delicious and this really was the best African Style food I ever tried anywhere.

Also enjoyed a hidden Gem – Cured & Whey. It’s a small deli, cheese, and wine shop in an industrial park that’s a short ride from Mandalay Bay. We didn’t try any wine but I can say that the sandwiches and the cheeses are unusually good!

I’m so FORKING tired of the cart problem at my local Smith’s. The woman next to me was very angry. I was afraid she might crack and go berserk because she said that she couldn’t shop without a cart. She was screaming and waving her arms in the air. I was afraid something was going to happen that you’d see on the news.
