The FORKING Las Vegas FOOD Buzz of the Week

One of the best of the week was the Norwegian Salmon from Alchemist Bar and Restaurant. One of only a few restaurants in Las Vegas that masterfully prepares salmon with a crispy skin that STAYS Crispy. The flavors were also magical and the center of the fish was a nice medium.

The Fried Pizza from Good Pie was also FORKING Amazing. It’s so different and unlike any other pizza out there.

Everything there is amazing. Delicious fresh tomato sauce, creamy buratta cheese, fresh basil, parm, and this incredible light as feather crust……YOU NEED TO TASTE IT FOR YOURSELF. It seems so light and SO RIGHT!.

Worst of the week –

The pani puri from Hummus Club.

Menu reads savory mix of spiced potatoes, chick peas, and onions –

This is what they gave me.

No potatoes, No Chick peas. Instead corn, tomatoes, cabbage, peppers, lettuce. EVERYONE knows pani puri are always Potatoes and Chickpeas.

and this is

The Forking Truth

Lox Recipe

I read a few lox recipes and found that lox is something that anyone can make. All it is – is salmon (preferably sushi grade) salt and sugar. You put the fish in salt and sugar for 2-3 days.

Here’s my slightly embellished recipe.

1 lb salmon (preferably sushi grade) – rinse and blot dry

2 cups sugar

2 cups course kosher salt

1 teaspoon crushed pink peppercorns

2 teaspoons dried dill

1 teaspoon lemon zest

Directions

Mix the salt, sugar, peppercorns, dill, and lemon zest together.

Get a ziplock bag and sandwich the salt and sugar mixture around the salmon.

Get all the air out and place in a bowl (I used the tape from my salmon package but that isn’t necessary.

Then place another heavy bowl over it.

About three days in the refrigerator

Pull off the skin and slice up and serve

While you are waiting for the lox to cure you might have the to make the mini bagels.

FORKING Amazing Mini Bagels

ENJOY!!!!

My Trip to Zaxby’s – North Las Vegas NV – Eh

Zaxby’s is a chicken theme fast food casual chain of restaurants. They offer appetizers, limited time specials, chicken fingers, boneless and regular chicken wings, sandwich meals, salads, kids menu, desserts and more.

We tried the Zaxby’s on Craig Road in North Las Vegas.

We ordered and paid and very quickly our meals arrived.

I tried a Grilled Asian Zensation Salad with citrus vinaigrette.

It’s kinda strange. I got fresh lettuce, cubes of chicken breast, some crispy noodles, a vegetable roll, and a BIG PILE OF COLE SLAW in the middle of the salad topped with a disgusting sauce. Maybe I could almost like this salad if it didn’t contain that very awful tasting sauce.

My husband did better. He got the signature Zaxby’s fried chicken sandwich with some fries and we shared fried cheddar bites.

This sandwich won’t win any prices for beauty but it is tasty and juicy.

Fries are reasonably good.

Cheddar bites are OK but they don’t look or taste like cheddar. They are kinda stringy.

We ordered a few sauces to try with the fries and cheddar bites.

Tongue Torch sauce, Hot Honey Mustard, and Spicy Zaxby’s. I think we liked the spicy Zaxby’s sauce the best.

Gave my dogs some when I got home.

Not the best and also not the worst.

Some things here are also better than other things.

Wahoo’s 24/7 – Gaming, Bar, and Fish Tacos – Centennial Las Vegas NV – Worth a Try

Wahoo’s specialty are fish tacos but they are also a 24/7 gaming, bar, and also restaurant with (at this time) six locations in Las Vegas Nevada. You can seat yourself in the bar –

Or the separate dining area –

Or the patio (not photoed)

You order and pay at the counter and someone runs you your order as it’s ready.

I tried three tacos. – salmon citrus-slaw taco, crispy pollock taco, 1988 spicy Wahoo taco.

The non-fried tacos are double shelled. They are all pretty good. Some have more flavors than others. I think the tastiest taco is the fried crispy fish taco. The batter is seasoned nice and the one tortilla on it seems to fit better. But they are all A-OK.

We also shared some onion rings that are also pretty good. The are very crispy and seem free of oil. Also the onions stay in place and don’t pull out when you eat them.

My husband had a three taco platter with rice and 1/2&1/2 beans. Carnitas, Shrimp, and a Fried Fish Taco

He was surprised that everything was at least good (especially the carnitas and shrimp)

I have to say Wahoo’s is Wroth a Try!

Peinto Thai Kitchen – Las Vegas NV – Worth a Try!

Peinto Thai Kitchen is located in the North/West part of Vegas. They are a full service Thai Restaurant that also offers beer and a wine list. Inside are traditional tables and booths.

I tried the Three Flavors Salmon (Sweet, Spicy, Sour). It came with steamed vegetables and rice.

It’s a generous portion of food and could possibly be two meals for some people. The salmon is cooked to well but is still moist inside. You need to use the sweet, spicy, sour sauce to add flavors to the dish. It’s tasty and good.

My husband tried the Plumena Spicy Noodle with Chicken. (#4 out of 5 for heat)

Everything thing here is tasty and #4 is a good amount of heat for this dish.

This is how you say it –
