My Forking Thoughts on Creepy Cocoa Crisp M&M’s from Target – Worth a Fork!

I saw these NEW Creepy Cocoa Crisp M&M’s at my local Target Store. These Creepy Cocoa Crisp M&M’s are exclusive to Target Stores. This flavor is described on the package as a cocoa crisp center with a layer of dark chocolate. I look at the package and notice that this is the first new or limited edition flavor of M&M’s in a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG Time…….maybe many years (or decades) that doesn’t say with artificial flavor on the front of package.

I look at the ingredients…..and get excited……..Looks very promising…..

I open the package up and take a sniff.

It smells just like a bag of chocolate chips.

I pour some M&M’s out.

These are smaller sized and slightly irregular in shape. They come in colors of yellow, red and brown.

I eat one……Ummmm It’s chocolatey and crunchy. It reminds me of the “Crispy” variety of M&M’s but it taste like chocolate chips and a little bit of hot cocoa flavor.

I eat another and let this one melt in my mouth. It had the usual sweet candy shell. Then I’m left with chocolate that taste like a chocolate chip. Then the chocolate melts away and I’m left with a small crispy chocolate cereal lump in my mouth. The chocolate lump taste similar to what I think I remember a cocoa puff taste like. (it’s been decades since I ate a Cocoa Puff)

I bit into a few so you can see what they look like inside.

DANG !!!!!!! It’s Forking easy to keep eating them. They seem lighter and airier than regular M&M’s with a good chocolate taste……They have the right amount of sweetness, salt and are ever so slightly bitter with that chocolate chip flavor and a smidgen of hot cocoa…… It’s actually hard to stop eating them!

I’d say these new Creepy Cocoa Crisp M&M’s are Worth a Fork! These are good enough to be a permanent M&M flavor.

Worth a Fork!

My opinion may indeed differ from yours.

My Forking Thoughts on New Hazelnut Spread M&M’s

There’s a NEW permanent flavor of M&M’s out there and it’s Hazelnut Spread. The M&M’s colors are the traditional ones of yellow, orange, green, blue, red and brown with the usual smooth shiny finish.

The bag is a little weird looking if you’re not paying attention.

Honest to GOD I thought the Blue M was holding a Poop emoji……but maybe I need bifocals now so maybe it’s just me?????

I start by opening the bag and take in a big sniff.

It smells like chocolate.

Pour some out and take a bite to see the center.

They do look a little different with a lighter center.

I eat a couple……..

The texture is different and these M&M’s have a soft center…..at first they don’t taste so different from regular M&M’s. They seem like regular M&M’s but that are oddly soft…….and a faint hazelnut aftertaste.

Then I let one dissolve in my mouth…..At first not any different with the same hard sweet shell. Then I taste the familiar chocolate……Oddly it isn’t till I’m almost done I get the hazelnut….followed by a little salt.

These Hazelnut Spread M&M’s are better to savor than to eat…..

Now if you let them dissolve real SUPER SLOW…….Shell melts….next goes the soft chocolate….next you are left with all hazelnut center that oddly seems slightly harder than really soft chocolate……You definitely get the hazelnut best when you eat them this way….

If you are just eating the M&M’s like a normal person……. The hazelnut flavor is a very good and natural flavor but I wish the hazelnut flavor wasn’t so late to the party. Can’t taste it till the M&M is almost gone and then the hazelnut hit comes followed by a light touch of salt.

************Unless you let these M&M’s dissolve slow as can be you won’t get all the hazelnut flavor.********** (well at least from the bag I tried)

Those were my Forking Thoughts on the Hazelnut Spread M&M’s…..Your opinion and thoughts may indeed differ.

Someone Laid a Finger on my Butterfinger Candy Bar – WTFORK Happened to the Butterfinger?

The Butterfinger Candy Bar was created in 1923 by Otto Schnering of the Curtiss Candy Company of Illinois. Between 1964 and 1981 The Curtiss Candy Company changed hands and also merged into other companies that include Nabisco and R.J. Reynolds. In 1990 Nestle bought Butterfinger (and Baby Ruth) from Nabisco. Then in March 2018 Nestle sold Butterfinger to Ferrero. (picture above is from www.BussinessWire.com)

www.TeamHellions.com

February 2019 fun sized Butterfinger Candy Bars began to display “Improved Recipe” on the packaging. (red on right side – right upper corner in photo below)

Bite sized Butterfingers (that are expired from my local grocery store) are made by Nestle.

Fresh new Butterfinger Candy Bars are now made by Ferrara Candy Company.

Nestle Butterfinger Ingredients
Ferrero Butterfinger Ingredients

When you compare the ingredients you might read that molasses is no longer an ingredient in the Butterfinger Candy bar…..and the sodium has increased by 20%.

www.LazerTimePodcast.com

The Butterfinger now lacks that caramelized molasses flavor and is now more salty.

www.AdsByDee.com

Other changes are that the Butterfinger now uses a larger sized peanut in its core and more cocoa and milk in it’s chocolate coating.

www.Simpsons.Wikia.com

The Ferrero Company also dropped the hydrogenated oils and uses a double layer wrapper instead.

On the left is a Nestle Bite Size Butterfinger. On the Right is the Ferrero Butterfinger

The Nestle Bite Size Butterfinger (on the left) has a more textured peanut butter type of candy threw it with a more caramelized nutty kind of taste.

The Ferrero has a noticeably better chocolate coating and more deep peanut flavor but it is salty…..seems less sweet…..It’s almost sandy…….It doesn’t have that flaky texture that the Nestle Butterfinger had. The Molasses taste is missing.

Both are good just different now.

My Forking Thoughts on Thai Coconut, Mexican Jalapeño & English Toffee M&M’s

Three NEW Internationally natural and artificially flavored peanut M&M’s have just come out. Here are Thai Coconut, Mexican Jalapeño and English Toffee Peanut M&M’s. It reads on the bags that if you vote for your favorite that it is a possibility that you might win a trip around the world.

I opened them all up and tried them all. The one really weird thing about all of them is that after trying all the flavors I noticed all the peanuts break down the middle in your mouth….M&M’s are one of the few candies I’ve eaten all my life. It’s been decades since I was a child but I remember decades back the peanuts never separated…….This might sound gross but as a child when we had a dinner I didn’t like at home I’d eat M&M’s instead for dinner( as a child remember)……..I ate them very slowly and saved the peanuts for last sometimes…..so I do indeed REMEMBER!…………..it seems like they use peanuts that are more dry……..or maybe older these days?

I’ll start with my least favorite….It’s the most unattractive one the English Toffee in colors that I’ll be nice and not describe…..I open the bag and it sort of smells something like butterscotch. Then I go to taste one and I almost gaged. It taste like a spoonful of bitter instant coffee followed by other taste like maybe artificial butterscotch and maybe artificial caramel all there….This has the usual chocolate with a peanut center but this one leaves an unpleasant chemical aftertaste……..This one I don’t like at all

NOT WORTH A FORK!

For me it’s a bit of a toss up between the Thai Coconut Peanut and the Mexican Jalapeño. After my first taste of them I thought the Mexican Jalapeño had a slight edge because it tasted more like a Peanut M&M but with a burn…..When you open the bag it just smells like chocolatey M&M’s…….The Mexican Jalapeño M&M’s come in colors of yellow, red and green. They taste mostly like regular peanut M&M’s with a slight burn. Slightly disappointed because the burn doesn’t taste like jalapeño……….it just burns…….there is a very slight other flavor that might be something like cinnamon…..Not bad but not great.

1/2 a Fork…OK

The Thai Coconut package smells like coconut when you take a whiff. These Peanut M&M’s come in blue, lime green and yellow. The candy shells taste slightly different to me. Like the inside is coated with something that taste similar to saccharine mixed with coconut……but much more coconut to saccharine. It’s easy to taste the chocolate with this one. There is a slight other taste with the coconut but so slight and maybe too artificial for me to tell what it is suppose to be…….A few more Thai Coconut M&M’s later these M&M’s build up and remind me of coconut Easter Eggs. These Thai Coconut M&M’s are OK…not great..They differ from the Coconut M&M’s that were out years ago…..These are not as strong with coconut and also not as sweet. They don’t take me to anything Thai Food…….They are OK….like Easter eggs….kind of tasty……the peanut goes very well with these flavors…….not bad…not great.

1/2 a Fork…OK

Those were my thoughts on the International Flavor M&M’s of English Toffee, Mexican Jalapeño and Thai Coconut.

My Forking Thoughts on White Chocolate Marshmallow M&M’s

When I came across this bag of White Chocolate Marshmallow M&M’s I thought this was a strange flavor. I also thought these M&M’s might be filled with marshmallow cream but they are not. These M&M’s are white chocolate that is marshmallow flavored.

I start by opening the bag and take a whiff……It smells like white chocolate mixed with a little yogurt……I’m thinking that these will suck…….

I spill some out.

The M&M’s are shiny and slightly larger than regular plain M&M’s. The candy shells are white, Robbin’s egg blue and like yellow ribbon color.

I taste one.

It’s very sweet……maybe too sweet for some people…but to me it’s as sweet as vanilla cake frosting….To me it’s just right for this flavor. It’s almost like you really are eating a marshmallow mixed with white chocolate. I think I really do feel and taste cornstarch in my mouth like from a real marshmallow. I eat a few more….when you eat more you get the sweet more……..These melt better in the mouth than most white chocolate M&M’s…they aren’t waxy at all. Instead of an aftertaste like I was expecting I got some cornstarch building up in my mouth…….It’s kind of weird.

I totally was expecting to hate these White Chocolate Marshmallow M&M’s but they are surprisingly realistic tasting and OK!

Adventurous Tasters might want to give the White Chocolate Marshmallow M&M’s a try!

Not my favorite flavor of M&M’s but worthy of a try

My Forking Thoughts on Happy Holidays Caramel M&M’s

I recently purchased a bag of the NEW Happy Holidays Caramel M&M’s. About a year and half ago M&M’s did offer a caramel flavor M&M’s. These Happy Holiday M&M’s do seem to differ.

Here’s the May 2017 Caramel M&M’s Large (for M&M’s) slightly irregular shapes in colors of yellow, orange, red, green, blue and brown. I remember these M&M’s were unusually chewy.

The Happy Holiday M&M’s smell different.

I open the bag and take a whiff…..They smell like chocolate mixed with sour cream….

I pour some out.

The finish is different. Not the smooth polished shell that M&M’s normally have. Instead the shell is rough. The colors are red and green but in a rough finish.

These Happy Holidays Caramel M&M’s have a rough shell that taste similar to most other M&M’s. The Chocolate is a same familiar M&M’s Chocolate that most of us enjoy……………..these  caramel centers aren’t as chewy as the caramel ones I tried in May 2017. The caramel is a softer caramel but it has a sour finish. After a few of them the sour taste builds and my throat hurts.

Maybe I got a defective bag?

I’m not eating the rest.

NOT WORTH A FORK!

Your experience and opinion may differ.

My Forking Thoughts on Cauliflower Pretzels by From The Ground Up

When I saw Cauliflower Pretzels I had to try them! Pretty sure I picked them up at my local Sprouts. Actually when you read the ingredients you will find that cauliflower is the second ingredient and cassava flour is first. Sounds like a regular pretzel recipe with lots of added vegetables….besides cauliflower these pretzels have spinach, broccoli, carrots, tomatoes, beets and shiitake mushrooms.

I open the bag and take a whiff.

“WOW IT STINKS!”

It smells like rotten broccoli mixed with bread.

The pretzel sticks are thin and light. They are similar to those Bachman Pretzels that came in little boxes that are or were sold back east.

I go to taste one……..WOW it taste like really strong  broccoli that’s going bad. They have a really nice texture but are very bitter. It’s too hard to eat more than three sticks.

These Cauliflower Pretzels are too painful for me to eat.

Some people like bitter and sour more than me…maybe some people might like them?

Those were My Forking Thoughts on Cauliflower Pretzels From The Ground Up.

My opinion is subjective and might not reflect yours.

My Forking Thoughts on Lay’s Chile Con Queso Potato Chips

The first Chile Con Queso I ever tasted was from Chi-Chi’s Mexican Restaurant. It was a creamy cheesy sauce made from a Mexican Style Cheese blend and was spiked with little pieces of tomatoes, chiles and scallions. The Queso was served with a bottomless basket of hot white corn tortilla chips. Chile Con Queso seemed very exotic a few decades back but these days it’s a common southwest Texmex kind of snack food that often is served with soft pretzels and beer. These days it’s common to whip up Queso  in your own kitchen when you want to snack while watching a football game. At home most Americans just microwave a brick of Velveeta (a processed cheese food product) with shredded jack cheese or cream cheese with a can of Rotel (chopped tomatoes and chiles).

Well lets see what I think!

I open the bag and take a whiff.

My bag looks only 1/3 filled.

WOW, it smells mostly like a dirty deep fryer……..(ick)…….laced with maybe a little cheese…..just like what Chi-Chi’s deep fryers were like!

The chips are on the smaller side and have a granular feel to them.

The chips are extra thin and are speckled with something.

I eat a couple chips. They feel extra fragile in the mouth.

The actual chip lacks a potato flavor.

The first thing I taste is something sour.

It’s like the sour in sour cream but more sour.

Then it turns a sort of buttermilk taste followed by a soft kick of chile peppery seasoning. The first couple have a sourness to them that is unpleasant.

I eat one chip slowly.

This chip taste better than the first two.

I don’t get that sourness as much and the spice seems to grow. It’s spicy but a mild spicy……not bad for Lay’s……It’s also a little onion-ee……a little….garlic-ee…..it’s kinda black pepper-ee. There are other warm pepper tastes and a little salty. Something here reminds me of margarine…..

The spice and mild heat does grow and covers up the milky sourness.

Too bad the cheese taste is very disappointing……..They didn’t get the cheese taste right.

Almost good…….

1/2 a Fork…

Not horrible….but not great either……….The spice blend is pretty good for Lay’s but the cheese taste is off.  Instead of a processed cheese taste it’s something more like buttermilk.

This tasting is subjective. The Forking Truth is that your experience and opinion may differ.

My Forking Thoughts on Jelly Belly Krispy Kreme Doughnut Flavored Jelly Beans

Jelly Belly is known for making some sopistacated flavors of Jelly Beans. Most people I know either LOVE or HATE Jelly Belly Jelly Beans because of some of the realistic flavors. These are not the type of jelly beans where you can eat handfuls of…..Jelly Belly Jelly beans you need to savor either one or a couple at a time. Some flavors are surprisingly realistic like the pear flavor, peach flavor and the cantaloupe flavor. Another very realistic flavor is the popcorn flavor. It taste just like popcorn but it is very strange to taste salty buttery popcorn in a sweet jelly bean….Many people can’t get over the strangeness of the popcorn flavor and some people I know just can’t enjoy jelly beans one or two at a time. So you either love or hate Jelly Belly Jelly Beans….

I came across these Krispy Kreme Doughnut Flavored Jelly Belly Jelly Beans so I thought I’d give them a try,

The whole bag is only 100 calories!

Five flavors are packed in the bag – Cinnamon Apple Filled, Strawberry Iced, Glazed Blueberry Cake, Original Glazed Doughnut and Chocolate Iced with Sprinkles.

I open up the package. The package does smell like a box of doughnuts!

I got around 26 jelly beans. I received many Cinnamon Apple Filled and only two with Chocolate Iced Sprinkles.

I start by tasting them one at a time.

My least favorite is the Glazed Blueberry Cake. It’s not horrible or anything like that. It doesn’t really taste like Blueberry to me and has a slight tartness to it.

The Cinnamon Apple Filled is leans heavy on the cinnamon side. This Jelly Bean had better flavor and when I ate two at a time the apple flavor squeezed out some.

One of the better flavors was the Original Glazed. It taste just like fried Glazed Doughnuts but with the Jelly Bean Texture. I don’t thing I’d eat handfuls of this flavor but in a small dose it’s interesting.

Chocolate Iced was Pretty Good! I got Chocolate Iced Doughnut Taste but the flavor leaned towards Chocolate Sprinkles.

I like the Strawberry Iced the best. It taste just like a realistic strawberry iced doughnut.

My Forking Thoughts on NEW Crunchy Mint & Raspberry M&M’s Candy

M&M’s have put out for a limited time three new flavors of M&M’s Candy – Crunchy Raspberry, Crunchy Mint and Crunchy Espresso. I’m only trying the Raspberry and Mint flavored M&M’s. On the back of the package they suggest that you text them your favorite of the three flavors. They also note that no prize will be awarded and there is little other information.

I start by opening the Raspberry Bag.

I take a whiff.

It smells just like those dark chocolate raspberry jelly rings that my sister loves.

Next I pour some out.

Odd colors for raspberry – white, red and brown….I was expecting purple like the bag…..and smaller irregular shapes and different sizes.

I go to taste one and let it melt in my mouth.

Hard shell that sort of taste like Raspberry Bubble Yum. Followed by a burst of a dark chocolate taste that is slightly bitter mixed with that candy jelly ring like raspberry taste…then I’m left with a crunchy center that taste like Rice Chex cereal.

I get more flavor when I eat about three of them normal……..I really like the texture…..this is what the crispy M&M’s should be like……..very crisp and light……but…I get…Ick!…a chemical after taste…ick!

Now I bravely go for the Crunchy Mint.

I open the bag and take a whiff.

It smells appetizing…..very chocolate and very mint…….reminds me of an Andie’s Candy.

I pour some out.

These M&M’s are also of different sizes and shapes but are larger than the Crunchy Raspberry M&M’s. They are a light green a medium green and brown.

I let one dissolve in my mouth.

Normal candy shell.

Taste like deep chocolate with lots of mint…….lots of mint…..clears my head….I like the very strong mint. Almost gives me a brain freeze. There is a cereal center…..when all the chocolate is gone the cereal taste like a Rice Chex.

I go to eat some normal.

Ummm I think these are pretty good.

A nice light crunchy texture with very strong mint and deep chocolate. Sort of like an Andie’s Chocolate Mint but with lots of textures.

I think these would also be really yummy with ice cream.

Opps!………… I ate a few handfuls….. they were yummy…..Now I get an artificial tic tac breath mint kind of mint build up and aftertaste…..wow it’s like sex that ends with a fart.

I guess the new Crunchy Mint is only good if you only eat a few.

I’m not big on the Crunchy Raspberry but it does have a nice texture. The Crunchy Mint also has a great texture and is great until you get that Tic Tac breath mint kind of build up.

Those were my Forking Thoughts on Crunchy Raspberry and Mint M&M’s…I note that YOUR FORKING OPINION may indeed differ.
