My Trip to Little Hong Kong Chinese and Filipino Favorites Restaurant North Las Vegas NV

Little Hong Kong Chinese and Filipino Favorites Restaurant is located in North Las Vegas Nevada. It’s a small casual restaurant with some wait service Filipino Food, American Chinese Food, soft canned beverages, and bottled water. They only have a few tables in this restaurant and I noticed most customers do take out here. This restaurant has an impressive 4.5 star average on Yelp so I thought it would be very good.

This dish is hard to find on menus so we tried vinegar marinated milkfish that is fried crisp with black pepper.

We also tried Mandarin hot braised vegetables to share.

and Szechwan beef. Both dishes are made with nice variety of the same fresh vegetables (bok choy, broccoli, red bell pepper, mini corn, carrot, onion, green pepper) But…….Both the Mandarin vegetables and the Szechwan beef taste exactly the same and are both in a sweet flat sauce that doesn’t even have a hint of heat.

Also the fish and the beef are not cooked properly. Both are dry and chewy. (It’s unusual to be served chewy dry fish). Sadly this is substandard. We also were the only table dining in and weren’t checked on. We even had to ask for the bill.

I don’t know what happened to this restaurant today so I can’t say…………But today sure wasn’t worth a try and certainly WASN’T Worth a Fork!

First Taste at Pho Aimie – NORTH LAS VEGAS NV

Pho Aimie is a full service Vietnamese Restaurant located in North Las Vegas Nevada. They offer around twenty varieties of pho (usually a beef noodle soup). One variety of pho that they offer is a rare steak spicy sate noodle with peanut thick soup that is not often on menus. They also offer vermicelli entrees, rice entrees, varieties of rice and egg noodle dishes, Vietnamese ice coffee, beer, and more. I do note that I didn’t notice Vietnamese baguette sandwiches (Banh Mi ) on the menu.

They seat you quickly as soon as you enter.

They have a large open room with hanging carved lantern type fixtures, and bamboo shrubbery.

We started out by sharing the chicken potstickers.

They have crisp exteriors from being deep fried and nicely seasoned chicken interiors.

For my dinner I picked the vermicelli stir fried with chicken lemongrass.

I got a generously sized bowl of lettuce, vermicelli, bean sprouts, carrot-radish-cucumbers, scallions, onions, and tender shaved medium spicy lemongrass infused chicken. This is light and refreshing and just right on a hot day. This can be two meals for some people……but only if you are OK with only a small amount of protein.

My husband tried the shaking beef rice entree.

It came with a bowl (of what my husband said was beef broth) soup. The beef here is tender and was cooked with onions with a soy based sauce with vegetables (carrot radish, cucumbers) and steamed rice.

Carson Kitchen Las Vegas NV – Fine Comfort Foods

Carson Kitchen was created by restauranteur Cory Harwell and the late chef Kerry Simon who was often a judge on many Food Network TV Shows. The Las Vegas location is downtown in a midcentury converted hotel that formally was the John E Carson Hotel. It’s pretty easy to miss and just walk by but right around opening time is a small line of people waiting to get in by a door that is hard to notice.

You have options inside. Do you want to sit on the rooftop? Outside, or at the bar? You can sit at the kitchen counter and catch some action.

Or you can grab a seat in the main inside dining area.

The menu offers fine chef quality comfort foods. You can get starters like crispy chicken skins with smoked honey. A few of the other starters are hot dog burnt ends, and asada style venison tacos. They also offer sandwiches and flatbreads. Other plates like beet tartare, macaroni and cheese, three bean salad with ham and green goddess dressing, and gin riggies (rabbit & snake sausage with tomato cream. Some of the entrees are things like chicken thighs, pork meatloaf, salmon with strawberry pico, and short ribs with Mississippi jus and pepperacini pesto.

We were told orders do not necessarily come out together here. They come out of the kitchen as they are done.

We decided to start with the beet tartare.

It’s a bed of whipped goat cheese topped with soft beets, crushed pistachios, and mandarin oranges with thin crisp flatbreads.

For our mains we shared the secret Sunday chicken sandwich with spicy pickle aioli and house prepared tater tots.

About ten minutes latter we also shared the jerk turkey burger that also comes with house prepared tater tots.

The flavors are really great from both the sandwiches. The chicken sandwich is special with that spicy pickle aioli that really cuts threw everything. The tater tots are also exceptional with a very good real potato flavor and are perfectly crisp.

Mariscos La Lomita De Culiacan – Mexican Seafood Restaurant – North Las Vegas NV – Worth a Try!

Mariscos La Lomita De Culiacan is a small casual fresh Mexican Seafood Restaurant located in North LasVegas Nevada. They don’t have a bar but will make cocktails from the kitchen. The atmosphere is loud. The TV plays loud in Spanish TV. They play loud music in the dining room and loud music also comes from the kitchen. I do warn you that English is the secondary language here. Our first server didn’t understand us and a second server came over to serve us who was bilingual. I saw a lot of Mexican seafood rolls on the menu. Each one had cream cheese in them and since my husband doesn’t care for cream cheese I had to pass on them. We tried margaritas. They seemed very strong but had little flavor….

They started us off with tostadas and salsa.

For my main I tried the mojarra fish a la diablo.

I got a large mild white fish that is reasonably fresh and cooked to perfection with a medium spicy but tasty sauce. It sits on a generous pile of rice and the plate also includes soupy refried beans and some salad. We also got white corn tortillas on the side.

My husband tried the Cameron (shrimp) culichi verde (poblano cream sauce with cheese).

This platter also comes with rice, refried beans and salad.

Prices were low and portions were very generous.

Lemongrass & Lime – A Thai Bistro Las Vegas NV – Worth A Fork!

Lemongrass & Lime – A Thai Bistro serves traditional, modern, and street food style Thai dishes. They have two locations in Las Vegas Nevada. One location is in Summerlin and the one we went to is in Centennial Hills. The Centennial Hills location doesn’t have a bar but wine is available.

Inside they have a mix of traditional tables, booths, and half booths.

This restaurant was awarded a Best Of Vegas for 2022 award from The Las Vegas Review Journal.

We started out by sharing mashed potato stuffed rice papers in masaman curry called, Golden Pouch.

OMG YUM!!!!!! These are truly FORKING AMAZING! WOW! I’m speechless.

The pumpkin curry with chicken is also just as delicious!

It has chicken of delicious sweet pumpkin, a red curry base, coconut milk, carrots, bell peppers and fresh basil.

My husband tried the spicy basil with combination (beef, chicken, & shrimp) with an added fried egg.

It was also delicious!

The food here comes in spice levels of one-ten. I ordered number six and that was just right for me. My husband ordered number eight and he ate it but I thought number 8 was too spicy. He said he would order #7 next time.

The food really was so delicious that I have to say-

Peppermill Las Vegas NV – American Diner Style Restaurant on The Las Vegas Strip

The Peppermill Restaurant & Fireside Lounge is an old time American Diner Style Restaurant located on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. This restaurant has been featured in many movies and many celebrities have been spotted here. They offer many of the usual diner food menu items like breakfast, appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers, entrees, and more.

Inside is lots of neon everywhere with an energetic atmosphere.

They have many velvety booths and comfortable counter seating.

They use multi color sugar crystals that might make you fart a rainbow.

Anyways-

We started out by sharing the appetizer called, “cauli-fire.”

Perfectly fried and breaded cauliflower that was spicy and tasty that also seemed free of oil. The sauce that came with them was very tasty and was called poblano ranch. A nice tasty starter if you can handle a little heat.

While I wait for my main I observe the action in the open kitchen.

In reasonable time my berry salad arrives.

There is no mention of garlic toast coming with this salad so I don’t know if I was suppose to get it….?

I received cheesy garlic toast and a spinach salad with strawberries, red onions (that seem marinated in something sweet) sliced almonds, and tender tasty and maybe wood fired chicken breast tossed in raspberry walnut vinaigrette. The salad was suppose to contain blue cheese but the blue cheese never made it to the plate.

My husband tried the pastrami burger.

It’s a half pound burger topped with lean pastrami Swiss cheese, and a mayo-mustard sauce, pickle, and fries. I was told that it was a very good burger.

Peppermill is for when you want nothing fancy on the Las Vegas Strip. Parking is easy because they have their own parking lot.

Maybe I hit them on a bad day?

I only read positive things about EllaEm’s Soul Food in North Las Vegas Nevada so I thought I’d give them a try. They won a “BEST OF VEGAS” by the Las Vegas Review journal and have mostly very positive reviews on Yelp. On purpose I didn’t use the restaurant name in the title of this posting because it not my intention to bring anything negative to this restaurant. My only mission is to tell……The FORKING Truth.

Everyone was welcoming and friendly when we walked in. Eventually we ordered and they started us off with a warmed up cornbread muffin with soft butter.

The cornbread muffin was very good. Moist but slightly sweet with a good corn flavor to it.

Then the meals come.

I got the grilled red snapper. Today it was a bit fishy tasting and maybe was the best part of the plate. The mixed vegetables seem like from frozen and are laced with water and nothing else. In the middle are sweet potatoes that have a texture like mush and are sweeter than any dessert out there. I have no idea on how they were able to make them sweeter than sugar. The macaroni and cheese might have been good at one time. Today it’s over done and dried up.

The country fried steak was also over done and dried up. My husband said that this isn’t the best……

Maybe they were having a bad day? ……That made my day bad too!

On the other hand it was nice that they let a lady bring in her dog in a stroller.

Awwww the dog owner and dogs are so cute together. She obviously loves her dog very much.

As much as I enjoyed the service, cornbread, and the heart melting dog moment in dining room……

For my taste I don’t expect to be going back anytime soon.

Even if I just hit them on a bad day.

My Trip to Pho Mai Mai North Las Vegas NV

Pho Mai Mail Is a Vietnamese Restaurant located in North Las Vegas Nevada. They offer most of the usual Vietnamese foods like banh mi baguette sandwiches, rice plates, noodle bowls also called bun, stir fry and more.

It’s casual with some wait service inside.

We tried an appetizer called chicken egg rolls, and we also ordered iced tea, a rare steak tendon and meatball pho, and a grilled chicken vermicelli bowl.

The first plate out is the pho.

I didn’t try it but was told that it was reasonably good.

Next the chicken egg rolls come out with fish sauce.

These are kinda bland but fried nice………

Next my grilled chicken vermicelli bowl comes out….(I guess I’m not getting the iced tea……)

I used to get this plate often at another Vietnamese restaurant. At the other Vietnamese restaurant the fish sauce was a tasty dip to the chicken……The fish sauce at Pho Mai Mai is very fishy tasting and I can’t use it. The chicken at Pho Mai Mai is developed with flavors but also is a little dried out and chewy. It is flavored different and has a smoke flavor that I’m not used to. Also no pickled vegetables here, no cilantro, no crispy shallots….To me this seems like a more stripped down version than what I was used to.

A.Mano Pizza & Italian Cuisine Las Vegas NV – Fatbaby’s, Pizza Pie-Zoni, & Crazy Knots OH MY

A.Mano is a very unique novelty American Style Pizzeria and Restaurant located in Las Vegas Nevada. They offer the usual appetizers pizzas, pastas, salads, subs and more……But they also offer these things called, “FATBABY’s” that are hollowed out loaves of bread sticking straight up in the air filled with your choice of pasta that is topped with a generous amount of cheese. They also offer, “PIZZA PIE-ZONI (1/2 pizza & 1/2 calzone) and PASTA -PIE-ZONI (1/2 pizza and 1/2 pasta in a calzone). They even have CRAZY KNOTS that are different. The knots come in flavors like chicken Alfredo, bolognese and cheese, and mushroom truffle and cheese. Soft beverages are served here.

This is a very small restaurant with only around seven tables inside.

They have cheese related signs all over the walls here.

We decided to try a small plain pizza and a lasagna fat baby.

Here’s the pizza.

The pizza is actually very good. It has a delicious thin crust with a crispy bottom. The sauce is a rich tomato sauce. The cheese is very thick but easy to eat. The pizza is also nicely seasoned and is embellished with fresh basil.

Here’s the lasagna fat baby.

Lasagna Fat Baby

It’s a BREAD-ZILLA!

It’s a loaf of bread that is embedded with a cheese lasagna and is topped with a melted cheese tomato sauce. It’s tasty. Not a lot of lasagna in here. It’s mostly bread. Something different. It’s something funny to try.

The Pepper Club Las Vegas NV – Worth A Fork!

The Pepper Club is an artsy kind of restaurant and sushi bar by James Beard award wining chef Todd English. This restaurant is located in the Arts District of downtown Las Vegas Nevada.

Chef Todd English – April 2021 – Big Boy Cook Club Cookout at Ocotillo PHX AZ

According to the Pepper Club’s Website they call themselves an Asian Ocean Fusion Sushi Bar and Upscale Beverage kind of restaurant.

This restaurant has an outdoor patio lined with dog bowls. Indoors is a large bar area, some traditional tables and mostly smaller bar tables.

We tried two amazing appetizers. Today (lucky us) they had a $5. special on salmon collars with ponzu sauce.

WOW! This was fresh as can be and prepared to perfection. It just melts in your mouth.

We also tried some sushi. Tried the yuzu hama (yellowtail and yuzu kasha ((Asian condiment of yuzu citrus, garlic & pepper)) )

Unique and delicious! Even the rice is nicely seasoned just so.

For my main I tried the JFC Sandwich (Japanese fried chicken thigh, citrus slaw, really amazing pickle chips, spicy JFC sauce, and truffle fries.

I never had chicken like this before. It’s crispy but is so tender and moist that I can break it up with just my fork. GOSH it’s FORKING Delicious! All the flavors together are delicious. The pickles cut threw and make it pop! The bun is tasty and toasted nice but I need to skip most of it and the fries so I have room to try dessert. The fries today seem kinda average so I’m good skipping most of them. The fries also seem to lack a truffle flavor today…But the chicken sandwich is amazing. It’s hard to see but they also branded the bun.

It reads the Pepper Club by Todd English.

My husband tried the Aztec Turkey Combo (Turkey, Gruyere cheese, baby arugula, Vermont cheddar, and tomato soup)

The tomato soup is rich delicious and also laced with cheese. My husband said that this was the best turkey sandwich that he has ever eaten. The turkey is great, lots of quality cheeses, artisan breads. It’s just the best!

The signature dessert is a French toast ube (Japanese sweet potato) with fruit dessert. I saw them and they look beautiful but are also humungous so I went for the Ube churro.

It came with a little ice cream and was a just right sweet ending.
