What’s Zaap? Thai Food – Really Great Thai Food – Las Vegas NV – Worth a Fork!

What’s Zaap? Thai Food is located in Las Vegas Nevada sort of between Red Rock Casino and the Durango. If they seem familiar to you then maybe you saw them on Food Network on Diners Drive Ins and Dives.

They also won multiple awards. Some more are on a another wall.

They have these super special Chef Sauces and seasons that you should use to embellish your foods. (Special Chef Sauce Left side one from the end)

The crispy spring rolls are so unusually good we had to get them again. (Use just a drop or two of chefs special sauce with a small amount of sauce it comes with)

Las time I got the most amazing green curry salmon that I ever got in any Thai Restaurant.

LOOK how amazing the cook on it was.

You won’t get this at many restaurants PERIOD in Vegas. Oh and the flavors were just wonderful too.

Last time my husband got the dish that is often called Spicy Basil and also Pad Gra Pao.

This by FAR is the best Spicy Basil that we’ve tasted in Vegas. It’s well infused with HOLY BASIL (in case you don’t know that is the basil that you are suppose to use for this dish. Most places just use either regular or Thai Basil) Also the protein is hand chopped creating more surface area that that means more flavor. Many places just slice the protein.

This time I tried the basil eggplant with chicken.

It’s made with sweet white flesh eggplant and the chicken is tender and moist.

My husband tried the spicy basil with crispy pork belly.

It’s a slight up charge if you select Holy Basil for this dish. He loved this dish and it’s one of his favorites.

Fine Company – Burger YES – House Made Pastrami – NO – Las Vegas NV

Fine Company is a casual restaurant located in the downtown Summerlin part of Vegas. They offer breakfast, baked goods, soup, salads, bowls, sandwiches, and a few dinners.

My husband decided to try a smash burger.

The burger comes on a house baked English Muffin. This platter comes with a side and some pickles. He said that the burger is juicy and delicious.

I tried the house made pastrami rueben (no cheese).

The meat tastes like smoke and black pepper. It is also not cooked enough because the fat is hard like dental floss. This isn’t very good to me.

Fine Company – Say yes to the smash burger but NO to the house made pastrami.

Tamba – Always AMAZING Contemporary Indian Cuisine – Las Vegas NV – Worth a Fork!

Tamba is a Contemporary Indian Style Restaurant located in Town Square that is not far from the Las Vegas Strip. They have two main dining areas but on both visits we were seated in the first dining area,

They started us off with a delicious layered in flavors amuse bouche of spicy tuna with crunchy rice and interesting sauce.

Next was Madras Tuna Sashimi

great flavors and textures here

next was Truffle Tamari

Tasty but all the other dishes WOWED us more!

Both times here we enjoyed the Baked Samosa Chaat (SO FORKING GOOD!)

This is the best Naan I’ve tasted in Vegas (Garlic Cilantro) You need this with the above and below plates.

This time our main was the Banana Leaf Sea Bass

Banana Leaf Wrapped and Perfectly Roasted Sea Bass with Celeriac Puree and Edamame and other amazing sauces. DELISH!!!!!

A sweet ending with the check.

My Trip to WSKY Cantina & Restaurant – North Las Vegas NV – Different from the other locations

We have THREE WSKY 24/7 gaming, bar, restaurant places in North Las Vegas. Each one is different with different menus so it is almost like different restaurants. The NEW 1435 W Craig Road Location has a smaller but sort of regular WSKY menu with breakfast, bar bites, sandwiches, burgers, entrees, and desserts. On the other side of the menu they offer a limited Mexican Menu. When you walk in the main doors you walk right into the bar and gaming but can also dine there.

We walked right through to the dining area called The Cantina.

This part is set up with traditional tables, half booths, and whole booths.

A word of warning with the whole booths.

The tables don’t have rounded corners so it is different to get seated inside the booth because you can’t make it around the corner. So you sit on the ends.

They start you off with warm powdered chips and an oily salsa.

My husband tried a T&T Smash Burger with Tots.

It looks good but is kinda average. Over cooked and a bit dry.

Ten minutes latter my meal arrives.

They gave me a nice thick cut of salmon and I appreciate that they didn’t serve me soft skin or bloodline. But this fish feels hot on the ends like from a microwave. The ends are over cooked but the middle is better. The teriyaki sauce on it tastes like chemicals. This was suppose to come with bell pepper succotash but what they gave me are like that frozen vegetable mix with squishy corn, carrots, and peas with added edamame and a BIG mound of white rice.

That was my trip to WSKY Cantina & Restaurant. I read recently that another WSKY is coming to Centennial in the spot where Born and Raised was.

Lucino’s Pizza – A Taste of Philly and one of the Best Cheesesteaks in Vegas – Worth a Fork!

Lucino’s Pizza isn’t a fancy place. It’s a Philadelphia Themed Pizzeria and Cheesesteak Restaurant. It’s located in Las Vegas Nevada kinda near to the airport.

Both times that we were here I wanted to try their enoki mushroom appetizer but both times they were out of it. So both times we had their Pino’s Poppers with cheese sauce and blue cheese dressing that is very tasty and good.

A little different than what you get at other places. Tempura battered jalapeños with some carrot sticks dressing (blue cheese or ranch) and their house made cheese sauce made with Cooper Sharp Cheese.

Las time I had their Steak Hoagie Sandwich that they call a Philly Philly but this time I tried a pizza slice.

This tastes like something that you’d get in Philly. Good cheese. A rich very good sauce and a nice thin crust.

But their Cheesesteak …..

Very Good Roll (seeded or unseeded) Ribeye, fried onions, hot cherry peppers, Cooper Sharp Cheeses)

REALLY REALLY GREAT!

Able Baker Bomb Shelter- Centennial – UPDATE – Las Vegas NV – Get the Pork Belly! Skip the Pastrami

Able Baker Bomb Shelter is a Craft Beer and Sports Bar Type of Restaurant located in Centennial or what is North/West Las Vegas Nevada. The opening chef is from Fontainebleau’s Mother Wolf Restaurant and that is pretty big for Centennial. It’s not a fancy place and it’s a bit loud inside inside with big screen TV’s, a separate bar area and two outdoor patios.

bar area

Dining Room

On my first visit (Opening weekend)

We tried the cauliflower appetizer

I thought that it was slightly over cooked and possibly blander than it should be but both main meals were very good.

I enjoyed the Strawberry Fields Salad with added Salmon.

The salad was tasty and the salmon was nicely prepared.

My husband enjoyed the pork belly dip.

It was a bit short on the onions but the pork was very good according to my husband.

We even tried dessert since the chef was the pastry chef from Mother Wolf on the Las Vegas Strip.

It was the lightest cinnamon bun ever made with ube gelato. It was very delicate and also delicate flavor-wise too!

Went back with some friends and tried the Lunch Special Pastrami Sandwich (special order no mozzarella cheese) It come with your choice of salad or fries. Here’s the good. The side salad was good and the fresh baked in house bun was good.

The roll is dressed with a dijonnaise that is pretty much just mayo, a few pickles, really HOT Fresno chilies, and it’s missing the pickled onions. I’m not a fan of the pastrami. It tastes mostly like the flavor that curing salt gives and some black pepper. I also don’t like the texture. I think too much Prague powder (curing salt might have been used?) It’s missing the flavors and smoke that pastrami should have. It should have tastes of juniper, coriander, allspice, garlic, bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, onion, mustard, peppers. This can pass as cheap dollar store lunch meat so it was disappointing.

Someone else at our table said that the pork belly tacos were good. I know my husband enjoyed the pork belly dip. I had a strawberry fields salad with salmon that was good and a friend also had the strawberry fields salad but with chicken and she said that it was good.

A couple people tried margaritas. They said that the drinks tasted like they were missing something.

Service was below average on the second visit.

Pick pork belly over pastrami here.

And beers over margaritas here.

Street Tacos (Food Truck) North Las Vegas – Fork NO

We had THREE VERY GOOD experiences from a local food truck called Tres Tacos Birria De Res. My husband heard from that food truck owner is that her father owns a few restaurants and food trucks called Street Tacos so we thought they’d be worth a try. It just so happens that one Street Tacos Food Truck sets up across the street from the Tres Tacos Birria De Res Food Truck so we gave it a try.

My husband tried 4 tacos. A Carne Asada, Chicken, Carnitas, Chorizo. (They do have a salsa and toppings bar to finish the tacos. (we brought home some salsas and toppings)

All the meats are over cooked and dried out.

Here’s my three tacos – 2 chicken and I carne asada.

All dried up.

and –

The chicken has all the other meats mixed into it. The chicken also has grizzle.

ICK!!!!!!!!!!!

YUK!!!!!!!!

Sierra Gold – Aliante – N Las Vegas NV – Worth a Try

Sierra Gold is a 24/7 gaming, bar, and restaurant type place with 5 locations in Vegas. Sierra Gold is part of the PT family of gaming bar restaurants. The Aliante North Las Vegas Location is mostly all hightop tables inside and there are PLENTY of them (around the bar, two separate dining areas and a private dining area.. We did manage to find one normal traditional table so I wouldn’t recommend any handicapped people to dine here.

Inside is the usual bar with the big screen TVs and games.

The menu is basically an American Menu that also includes breakfast dishes.

We came here because I wanted a salad for lunch and they have FIVE salads on their menu.

I tried an Asian Chopped Salad. (Napa Cabbage, red cabbage, chicken, carrots, Fresno chilies, cucumber, wonton strips, almonds, soy-ginger dressing)

Not bad It’s A-OK my only problem here is that the Fresno Chilies are abnormally hot and way too hot for a salad but I note that usually Fresno Chilies are usually only mildly hot.

My husband tried the Grilled Italian Sandwich (salami, capicola, provolone, onion, pepperoncini, vinaigrette) He was going to order a burger but they won’t give him a medium-rare burger here because they only cook burgers medium-well.

He said it was A-OK…..not the best but A-OK He did enjoy the nicely seasoned curley fries.

Worth a Try!

Able Baker Bomb Shelter Craft Beer & Food Centennial Las Vegas NV – Newly Opened!

In case you are interested – Able and Baker are code names of the first two atomic bombs that were dropped on the Nevada Test Site during WWII.

Well now we have a new Able Baker Bomb Shelter that offers craft beers and craft foods. They offer a good sized bar and bar area, a separate dining area, and two outdoor patios.

I got the impression that they are still working things out on the menu because the crispy cauliflower was changed since the menu was printed.

After trying it this is the one dish they might still have to work on. It’s too soft and too bland. But don’t worry all the other food we tried was great!

It’s a salad called strawberry fields with added salmon. The salmon is really good today. It’s a nice big piece that is seasoned well. it’s moist, it’s juicy, it has a medium center. The salad is soft greens with goat cheese, strawberries, and walnuts with a vinaigrette dressing. It’s good but a bit too heavy with the dressing.

My husband tried the pork belly dip sandwich with fries.

He said that it was delicious and very good. Only peeves – Most of the meat was only on 1/2 the sandwich and the other peeve is that they were a bit too light with the caramelized onions.

Below are all the caramelized onions he got.

I packed up 1/2 my salad so I would have room to try some dessert.

It’s called a brioche cinnamon roll and it’s topped with ube gelato. It’s very light and delicate except for the gelato that is very hard. It’s good but very delicate in texture and flavors.

My Trip to Mountain Mike’s Pizza North Las Vegas NV – BLECH!

Mountain Mikes is a national chain of casual pizza with salad bar restaurants. They’ve been in business for over forty years and have well over two hundred locations.

It’s casual. You order and pay at the counter. You grab your own drink and silverware and seat yourself.

We decided to try the lunch buffet.

Below is the salad bar.

Below are the pizzas

I start with a salad.

Some things don’t seem that fresh and the beets do taste like a can.

These were the only meatless selections.

Ick

The crust is dense and heavy. The cheese is like rubber mixed with saw dust in your mouth and there is no sauce.

Later I found out that they only put out garlic bread. Some with very HOT jalapeños (YUK!) and some without jalapeños.

My husband got dried up sausage on his pizza.

A Horror Movie was playing in the dining room that mirrored the food.

This food is so horrible that it can make you scream!

Then when we left I noticed how filthy it was by the front door.

That was our trip to Mountain Mike’s Pizza.
