One of the all-time-BEST recipes I ever came across was the Cook’s Country Cheddar Pierogi Recipe. (Published on here but slightly different I think the only difference was that I fried mine). Usually Pierogi are served like ravioli (just boiled) and the next day get served fried but I think pierogi are always tastier fried.
My ****UPDATE**** is that I just learned by accident that the pierogi come out even better if the filling is chilled hard. When the filling is fresh made it is too soft to shape and stuff well…..
I had chilled cheddar potato filling that I made for stuffed potatoes and I thought the leftover I’d make into pierogi. That is how I figured it out.
That is my update to Cook’s Country Potato Cheddar Pierogi Recipe.
Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill is located in the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. They offer a mostly American type menu and are open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
It’s nice and bright inside. You can sit at the bar, a traditional table or a comfortable booth here.
We started out with the Truffle Potato Chips with Blue Cheese Cream and Chives.
I have to mention that over the past few decades we’ve been to and enjoyed lots of Wolfgang Puck Restaurants. This dish is the only dish that we both didn’t enjoy at a Wolfgang Puck Restaurant. I honestly believe that this dish was made incorrectly. The sauce was very thick and a very heavy white sauce. The potato chips were extra thin and delicate and could not support the heavy white sauce. It tasted like blue cheese when you came across a chunk of cheese. The fresh parsley brightened it up some.
The Chinois Salad was good.
The salad is dressed in a tasty sesame soy mustard vinaigrette. There are really great candied cashews that aren’t too sweet. The white meat chicken is very moist and developed with flavor. If I were to guess I’d say it came from a sous vide. The red endive is slightly bitter but it looks pretty.
The Italian Sandwich is made with Artisanal Meats and Cheeses and is served on Rosemary Focaccia with basil aioli and balsamic.
Today the focaccia is a bit greasy. The meat filling is very good but is all squished tight together like it was premade and set a side. That’s ok but when your sandwich cost $23. you want it fresh made.
They weren’t big on clearing plates today. The server and also the bus person didn’t offer to remove our appetizer plates.
Siegel’s 1941 is an American Restaurant located in the El Cortez Hotel/Casino in Fremont Street in Las Vegas Nevada. They offer an all day menu that includes breakfast like matzah ball brei, challah French toast, and smoked salmon bagels. They offer starters like shrimp cocktail, chicken wings, and matzah ball soup. They also offer salads, and Delicatessen like house roasted ham, turkey, pastrami, and roast beef sandwiches. They offer many dinner entrees. A few of them are the Meyer Lansky Burger, Siegel’s Fish and Chips, Roasted 1/2 Chicken, Prime Rib Special, Salmon, and Liver and Onions.
In case you don’t know the theme of the restaurant is the American Mobster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel.
They say he was handsome and charismatic besides being a hitman.
But most importantly Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel was credited for being the dreamer that started the development of the Las Vegas Strip.
Today I tried a pastrami sandwich.
The pastrami tastes slightly under seasoned and seems kinda bland for pastrami. It’s also slightly undercooked because the fat is hard. It is also served on mild rye without seeds and came with skinny fries.
My husband tried a chicken fried steak.
He said that it was ok but not the best. I have heard that most people enjoy the Prime Rib Special so if you are into that you might do alright.
Siegel’s 1941 at El Cortez Hotel/Casino interesting atmosphere but not the best.
Carmelita’s Mar Y Tierra is a Mexican Surf and Turf type of restaurant located near to downtown Las Vegas Nevada. It’s in not the prettiest part of town. But inside is bright, fresh and new.
They offer a shrimp heavy menu with many seafood plates and a few steak plates. In the corner is a bar and around the room are booths. The middle is filled with traditional tables and a karaoke bar.
Complimentary chips and spicy salsa is included here.
We started with tortillas de pescado (snapper) They call them croquets but I think they are more like pancakes? They were served with tortillas, lettuce, pico, lime wedges, and chipotle aioli.
I tried the Torre De Tuna – Ahi Tuna, rice, avocado, cucumbers, lime salsa negra Chile sauce, and tortillas.
It’s more like a humungous appetizer that can serve several people. It taste fresh,,,It’s enormous……They forgot the rice…oh well more fish to bring home.
My husband tried the Camarones A La Diablo (spicy shrimp with rice and beans)
He said that it was very good! Delicious rice, delicious beans, shrimp perfectly cooked in a delicious but CRAZY SPICY HOT SAUCE……Very good but too spicy hot for nearly any human.
This was a better than average week with a lot of great food. One of the dishes that is always incredible is Emeril’s Banana Cream Pie. It’s so life changing that even if you hate banana cream pies you will love this one. My husband HATES banana cream pies but also loves Emeril’s Banana Cream Pie because it really is FORKING AMAZING and like no other. It’s just FORKING DELICIOUS. It is a sin and a shame if you go anywhere where there is a Emeril’s Restaurant and don’t get the Banana Cream Pie.
Available in several states but my last one was at….
District Deli & Coffee is located in a not too pretty part of downtown Las Vegas Nevada. They offer breakfast sandwiches, Monzu Bread toasts, a variety of sandwiches, chef salads, deli sides, pastries, coffees, smoothies, and teas. They have a few indoor tables and a few outdoor tables. It’s casual. You order and pay at the counter.
Sandwiches are the way to go here but I ordered the Panzanella Salad with Smoked Salmon because I don’t come across them often. (fresh mozzarella, toasted garlic focaccia, cherry tomatoes, arugula, red onion)
It’s a bit of a fail because the croutons are hard as rocks and Panzanella is suppose to be bread salad……..Soaked bread like in tomatoes and vegetables…..Not always but often oil, vinegar, basil…….These croutons stayed so hard that they couldn’t be penetrated with a fork. I’d go back but would have to go with a sandwich next time.
My husband had a sandwich and also took out a sandwich for latter. The sandwiches actually are quite good. Below is the Mortadella Sandwich (Pecorino Romano, arugula, Monzu Focaccia with Caponata) and house made chips.
He also took out a Italian Sandwich (fennel salami, capicola, mortadella, provolone, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pepperoncini, herbed vinegar, pickled pepper spread, sesame roll)
Delmonico Steakhouse in Las Vegas Nevada is located in the Venetian Hotel/Casino on The Las Vegas Strip. This restaurant is owned by Multi Award and James Beard Award Wining Celebrity Chef, Restauranteur, Television Personality, Cookbook Author and MORE Emeril Lagasse.
This Steakhouse is open at lunch time and does offer a lunch menu. At the time of my visit they were offering a three course Prix Price Menu for $50. The Lunch Menu offers starters like gumbo, salads, and Emeril’s New Orleans’s Barbecue Shrimp. Lunch Entrees are things like a tenderloin salad or sandwich, a petite filet, fried chicken, king salmon, smash cheeseburger, and spinach spaghetti. They also offer various side dishes, desserts, and a section of Steakhouse Selections.
It’s very formal and rich looking. it’s filled with comfortable seating and interesting light fixtures.
They start you off with airy popovers and soft butter.
At any of the Emeril Restaurants my husband ALWAYS gets the gumbo and says that it is always very good.
On the lunch menu is a $26. Smashburger (price subject to change) that is very large and is served on HOUSE MADE Potato Brioche Bun. The burger is ribeye brisket with trim + wagyu + dry age and lettuce, tomato, red onion, bread and butter pickles, American Cheddar Cheese and Fry Sauce.
I got mine without cheese. I don’t know why but the smashburger without cheese came out much juicier than the burger with cheese………….
On the very ends some of the beef is very crispy but mine is very juicy and flavorful. For me this is two meals because it is very large but my husband ate all of his.
We also shared some truffle parmesan potato chips.
The chips are light and very thin. They are crisp and seem free of oil. They taste good…Cheesy and a bit truffle-ly. They are also a very large portion.
Emeril’s Banana Cream Pie is always amazing. I do think it is one of the best desserts that you can get anywhere in Vegas.
Flecha Cantina is a Modern Mexican Cusine type of restaurant by Actor and Las Vegas Resident Mark Wahlberg. The original location of Flecha Cantina is in Huntington Beach and the Las Vegas Location opened up mid September 2024 in Town Square. This restaurant offers many Mexican Favorites that you expect it to offer like guacamole, tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and fajitas. This restaurant also offers many dishes that are unique to most Mexican Restaurants like guacamole hummus, pistachio goat cheese, potato poblano soup with bacon, balsamic beet salad with puffed rice, and a salmon fajita salad. Some of the entree offerings here are braised short ribs, steak with chimichurri sauce, sea bass, rib eye, cochinta pibil and birria.
It’s a large restaurant with a large bar lounge, a bar, traditional tables, booths, and some outdoor cocktail tables.
Whatever you order they start you off with fresh salted chips and very good spicy salsa.
Today we tried the pistachio goat cheese with tamarind sauce. It came with fried crispy pita bread.
My GOSH it’s delicious! I wish you could taste some. It’s also a very large portion so we took some home for another time.
I tried the balsamic beet salad with achiote tequila chicken (beets, balsamic, spring mix, spinach, jicama, cucumber, carrot, cotija, almond, corn, puffed rice, queso fresco, scallions, tomato)
I’m not 100% sure if every ingredient is there but it is certainly delicious. It might be the most delicious salad I ever had at any Mexican Restaurant. The chicken is unusually moist and delicious too….This is a really great salad.
My husband tried the Chile Relleno with shrimp (poblano, jack and chihuahua cheeses, enchilada rojo sauce, crema blanca, picaeta)
Again everything is unusually delicious and the shrimp are prepared to perfection.
Everything was so great I felt the need to try a dessert and tried the fried ice cream (fried ice cream, whipped cream, berry sauce, lemon hart 151 rum)
It’s not in the description but the ice cream sits on a bowlful of some sort of cinnamon crunch cereal. Not my favorite fried ice cream out but it’s not bad either.
Bazaar Mar is a Seafood Tapas Restaurant with Spanish Embellishments by multi award wining and Michelin Stared Chef and Restauranteur Jose Andres and Team. This week it was quite hard to pick the notable dish since almost any from Bazaar Mar could be the Notable dish. A close choice for me would have been the mini fish shaped sandwich on a special hallow bread called bagel and lox. It was really exciting but the Japanese Peaches with za’atar were also extra exciting.
The little green fruits are the Japanese Peaches. The plate also contains stracciatella cheese, hazelnuts, little crunchy bites, fresh green leaves, and za’atar.
You are suppose to gather one of each on your spoon to eat it.
It’s so interesting…..So different……It’s also light and refreshing.
The Japanese Baby Peaches from Bazaar Mar is the Notable Dish of The Week!
