My Trip to the Volcano Grille (S. Durango Dr.) Las Vegas NV – Not the best.

The Volcano Grill is (according to their website) the world’s first Fast-Casual Hibachi Restaurant with two locations in Las Vegas Nevada. You order and pay at the counter and either order some sort of plate or bowl or hibachi burrito. Then you get your drink and seat yourself.

We saw them recently featured on two different local Las Vegas TV shows and they seemed so good we wanted to give them a try. They also won some sort of Channel 5 award for excellence.

I tried a 1/2 fried chicken and a 1/2 (premium) salmon with 1/2 noodles 1/2 grilled rice with a miso strawberry salad. My salad comes first.

The salad cam with fried crispy noodles on the side and is adorned with dried out carrot shreds that seem old.

Then our meals come.

I got 1/2 fried chicken, 1/2 (premium) salmon 1/2 grilled rice, 1/2 noodles and some extra sauces ginger, sweet garlic, sriracha.

Chicken – dry and stringy

salmon – slightly over cooked

noodles – ok

rice – ok

All the sauces were weird

My husband had the 1/2 beef (m/r), 1/2 shrimp, 1/2 noodles, 1/2 grilled rice and the Japanese salsa sauce, mustard sauce.

The best of the plate surprisingly was the beef – a little over but ok

Shrimp taste old but are not spoiled

Eggrolls are soggy.

Volcano Grille – Not the best (slight update the owner saw my pictures and said that they were having a bad day on the day of my visit and invited us back. We were not interested in returning since this place is further out than we normally go)

My Trip to Above The Crust – Pizza – Wings & Things – Las Vegas NV – Unseasoned

Above The Crust is a casual little Pizza Restaurant located in the North/West part of Las Vegas Nevada. Their menu offers the usual pizzas, calzones, sandwiches, wings, and they also offer things like house made potato chips, Asian chicken salads, and pizza of the day. On the day of my visit here I think the pizza of the day was something like peaches with caramel?

Anyways – We ordered and paid at the counter and sat ourselves.

We shared a spinach and cheese calzone and a plain pizza.

Spinach and Cheese Calzone

Cheese Pizza

Both are kinda flat and bland. The pizza has zero seasoning. I never tasted anything so bland before. The crust and sauce are both dying for a little salt. The calzone is hard to eat….They did fill it with lots of ricotta cheese but it is also unseasoned. I wanted it to be at least seasoned like a frozen ravioli. It’s large portions of food so I bring home a bunch to doctor up.The end crust is thin and hard and kinda dense. It’s almost like a hard pretzel but without salt.

Holsteins – Great Burgers – Las Vegas NV – Worth a Fork!

Holsteins is a casual Burger & Milkshake & Bar kind of restaurant located in Downtown Las Vegas Nevada. In case they seem familiar to you then maybe you remember that they used to be located in the Cosmopolitan Hotel/Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. They offer many different milkshakes (Alcohol & no Alcohol) appetizers, salads, sides, AND BURGERS – wagyu & chuck blend fresh ground in house – various toppings on brioche with cracked black pepper buns, a chicken sandwich, a salmon burger, a vegetarian burger, and a couple entrees.

I tried the Rising Sun Burger (Kalbi Glaze, Crispy Yams, Nori Furikake, Tempura Avocado, Spicy Mayo). Added a side of Crinkle Cut Sweet Potatoes.

It’s a BIG burger. I know I have to take half home so I cut it in half.

This is a very good burger. It’s the juiciest one I ever had in Vegas. It also has a great burger taste and the toppings are different and interesting. The burger is so juicy that the bottom bun sort of melts.

The sweet potato fries are also very good with great flavors and are well seasoned. They came out crisp and hot with soft moist centers.

My husband tried the BBQ Green Chile Burger (Green Chile Hash, Pepper Jack Cheese, Tempura Jalapeño, Hickery BBQ Sauce).

With a side of Onion Rings.

He was surprisingly pleased with the burger because it was delicious, juicy, and also prepared to a perfect Medium-Rare.

The onion rings are very well seasoned and are very crispy. They come with a chipotle ranch dip.

I don’t know if I will be able to try other things on the menu since the burgers are really great here.

Aces and Ales – 24/7 Gaming, Bar, Restaurant, – Las Vegas NV – Worth a Try!

Aces and Ales is a 24/7 Gaming, Bar, and American Restaurant with three locations in Las Vegas Nevada. The North Tenaya Way location is in the North/West part of Las Vegas. This location has a bar on one side.

And dining areas to the right side.

I tried the Crispy Hot Chicken Breast Sandwich with a side salad.

It a very generous serving of nicely battered chicken dressed in hot chili crisp, and some pickled vegetables on a bun. The chicken is moist and the chili crisp is spicy but not too spicy. The salad is large and fresh. All in all this is pretty darn good!

My husband tried the Juicy Lucifer Stuffed Burger with Onion Rings. I do note that there is no mention on the menu of a creamy garlic aioli called “Crack Sauce” on the sandwich. My husband suspected that they might use mayo so he asked but he shouldn’t have to ask. (of course he special requested no sauce on the burger).

See no mention of “Crack Sauce.”

The burger is OK but I do have to admit that the onion rings are odd.

They aren’t crisp and have like a doughnut batter around the onion rings inside……They are like onion filled doughnuts. I guess they are onion doughnuts.

Remember that the crispy chicken sandwich was pretty darn good and the side salad was big and very fresh!

Newly Opened – California Fish Grill – North Las Vegas – Worth a Try!

The California Fish Grill is a Casual Seafood Restaurant Chain. They offer Responsibly Sourced Seafood such as Atlantic Salmon, Shrimp, Swai, Ahi Tuna, Maui Maui, and more. They offer plates that come with sides, bowls, salads, sandwiches, tacos, and children’s meals. Soft beverages, limited cocktails, beer, and wine is offered here.

It’s casual. You order and pay at the counter and someone calls your name when your order is ready.

They were very nice at this location and cooked the salmon less than well done like they always do at the Centennial location.

Today I tried the 1/2 Cajun and 1/2 Garlic Butter with Balsamic Brussels Sprouts and Fire Roasted Street Corn. Today the fish is good. The sauces aren’t terrible but are more like spreads than sauces. I’d get different ones next time. The Brussels Sprouts are very good. The corn is tasty but a little over cooked.

My husband got the Fish & Chips.

2 out of three pieces of fish are very good. One is weird. Somehow it has raw batter in the middle of the fish.

Also the fries were served cold today.

We also shared some Parmesan Green Beans.

These are always very good! Even my dogs love them.

I brought home some fish for the dogs too!

Latter they will get some Parmesan Green Beans.

The Charcoal Room at Santa Fe Station – Las Vegas NV – Sometimes Great – Sometimes Sucks

The Charcoal Room is a steakhouse with two locations in Las Vegas. One is near the Las Vegas Strip and the one at Santa Fe Casino/Hotel is in the North/West part of Las Vegas. The Santa Fe Location has a bar in the middle of the dining room and the tables and half booths are covered with linen.

On my previous visit we had amazing service and wonderful delicious foods.

Sea Bass Special from The Charcoal Room
Bone In Ribeye from The Charcoal Room

Whatever you order they start you off with a bread basket and cold hard butter.

This time we came to try the “Ground-In-House” Steak Ends Burger.

My husband ordered his Medium-Rare with Cheddar Cheese and upgraded to Macaroni and Cheese instead of fries.

The cheese doesn’t fully cover the burger. But the main problem here is that the burger is cooked unevenly. One side is medium-rare and the other side is medium.

My burger came out worse. I asked for medium no cheese.

I got well done and DRY!

Our server doesn’t even bother to check on us.

She only comes by after we push the plates away.

Newly Opened – Nom Wah at Rampart Hotel/Casino Las Vegas NV

The original Nom Wah is New York’s first and oldest Cantonese Dim Som Restaurant. Mid September a a casual small twelve seat counter and take out restaurant opened in the Rampart Hotel/Casino in the Summerlin part of Las Vegas Nevada.

It was very busy and we waited a long time for our seats. And an even LONGER time for our food.

We ordered –

Scallion stuffed Scallion Pancakes, Pan Fried Chicken & Cabbage Dumplings, Lo Mein, Chicken Soup Dumplings, and Fried Chicken Bao Buns.

For my taste some things were better than other things. BUT I SHOULD NOTE that the restaurant has only been opened only one day so far so they are very new and still working things out.

Best of the bunch

Pan Fried Chicken and Cabbage Dumplings – Delicious & Very Tasty with Dumpling Sauce

The other Very Good were 1/2 of the Chicken Soup Dumplings

I had two of them. One was very good and tasty with a little chicken soup in it. The other one had a hole in it and no soup.(same with the other two dumplings – one had a little soup and the other a hole and no soup)

The Scallion Stuffed Scallion Pancake was very tasty but a little greasy for me.

It wasn’t bad but maybe my least favorite was the crispy chicken bao bun.

The chicken was fried nicely but had almost no flavor and a big piece of something white in the middle of the chicken that was either thick fat or something else that I couldn’t eat.

That was my trip to Nom Wah – NEWLY OPENED

Solamente Pizza – Las Vegas NV – Worth a Fork

Solamente Pizza is an award wining casual Pizza Restaurant located in the Summerlin part of Las Vegas Nevada. The pizzas are made with Italian flour that is naturally leavened and fermented but isn’t sour. On the menu are mostly pizzas. They also offer a few sandwiches, a few salads, and some desserts. You order and pay at the counter and either seat yourself or do take out.

Not all but most of the pizzas they offer have a unique twist to them.

Here is the Mistaken Margherita Pizza – It’s Mozzarella, Sea salt, Pesto, EVOO, Passata, and Parmigiana Reggiano

The dough is light but sturdy and delicious. The center of the pizza really does bang with flavors and they are really great. My only peeve is that this pizza is almost half crust. They do offer to sell you dipping sauces for the crust.

We also tried the cannoli for dessert.

They were creamy and also light. Better than many out there.

Soru Ramen – Las Vegas NV – Very Bland – Spongy Meat – Old Fish – BLECH! NOT Worth a Fork!

Soru Ramen has five locations around Las Vegas Nevada. They all have impressive 5-4 star averages on Yelp so when one recently opened near me I thought it was worth a try.

I walked in and it was deja vue. I see New China Cuisine Restaurant inside. I thought these were two separate restaurants….But NO they are not.

Inside they offer the New China Cuisine Menu (American/Chinese) and the Soru Ramen Menu.

I was going to order the Chicken Ramen. But I asked my server if it was made with real chicken or a powdered mix and she said powdered mix so I ordered something else.

We started with a spicy tuna roll.

It came with old dried out hard wasabi and old looking ginger that might have been left out from the day before.

The sushi was made with OLD tasting fish and we had to send it back.

We are sorry that we are here now.

Sadly our meals came out fast and we decided to give them a try.

I ordered the Yakisoba with Chicken but the person that ran it out called it Chicken Chow Mein so I am not sure what I got.

It seems like it is missing the egg that was in the description. WOW it feels like oil in my mouth and is next to flavorless. It is not tasty at all. The chicken in it is moist and tender but flavorless and sits in oily spaghetti and a small amount of vegetables.

According to my husband I got the more flavorful plate.

He said that the best of everything we tried here was the egg. But there is absolutely no flavor in the dish. He thought the chicken seemed like already pre cooked and sliced spongy meat. He said no flavor in the pork.

Old fish

Hard like a rock wasabi

Old browning ginger

Bland oily chicken & noodle dish.

Bland tasteless ramen with spongy meats

Like OLD and aged hospital food for the elderly.

Sunday Brunch at Flecha Cantina – Las Vegas NV

Flecha Cantina is a Mexican Style Restaurant by Actor and Local Resident Mark Wahlberg. Flecha Cantina is located nt too far from the Las Vegas Strip and the Airport. This restaurant offers most of your Mexican Favorites like tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and fajitas. They also offer other dishes like goat cheese with pistachios and spicy tamarind sauce, potato poblano soup with bacon, salmon fajita salads, sea bass, cochinta pibil, rib eye steaks, and SUNDAY BRUNCH. In general we enjoyed all our previous visits to Flecha Cantina. Below are pictures from previous visits.

So this time we tried the Sunday Brunch (subject to change but was $46. a person)

You enter and wait in the lobby until your table is ready and while you are waiting they offer you a complimentary drink with alcohol (margarita, champagne with orange juice, etc.)

They walk you around the buffet stations if it is your first buffet visit.

the bulk of the buffet choices but tables are all around with more offerings On the right side are several breakfast type dishes and chicken fajitas. The other side is rice, beans, enchiladas, etc

on this table is the taco bar toppings, ice cream, cotton candy, and a chocolate fountain for dipping strawberries.

Cheese enchiladas

street tacos

None of the desserts are labeled but it is easy to tell that below is gelatin.

They gave us complimentary chips and salsa but I didn’t eat any so I’d have room for buffet food.

This is my first plate.

I took a red and a green cheese enchilada, vegetables, chicken fajita, breakfast potatoes and a corn muffin.

The chicken fajita is actually very good but I wish they had maybe a tortilla and some guacamole so it would be more like a fajita. The vegetables and potatoes are good. The corn muffin is surprisingly tasty.

Not thrilled with either enchilada because both are mostly just tortilla and have almost no cheese inside.

I was at the taco bar and saw shreds of all the different meats on the one set of tongs that they were using.

So I complained to the manager. He brought me what I was going to get but instead of from the buffet my two street tacos were fresh made in the kitchen.

Chicken & Carne Asada Street Tacos

I was full after the chicken taco and gave the beef taco to my husband. He said they were both much better than what he had off the buffet.

We were full but tried some dessert.

One was a lime cheese cake. The other was something chocolate. on the plate are chocolate covered strawberries. The only ones I could eat were the chocolate covered strawberries. The other desserts are so dense and heavy that they just aren’t my style.

I do note that Flecha advertised on their website some items that weren’t actually offered (turkey, ribs, salmon) and when I asked about those items my server said that they only bring them out on holidays)
