Dining with Dogs March 2017

I’m off to Sardella’s Pizza in Peoria AZ

Dining with Dogs is just a “Fluff” Story about taking my dog(s) out to eat. There are a bunch of rules and things you should consider when dining out with dogs. We have many restaurant patios in Arizona but not all restaurants are dog friendly. It’s always best to call any restaurant the day you plan to visit to make sure it’s ok to dine with your furry friend. Dogs are to dine close to your side. Dogs are NOT to sit on restaurant furniture and dogs are not to eat off of restaurant plates. you NEED to be aware that most of the food you eat can be harmful or toxic to your dog and you need to review a dog friendly food list from your veterinarian. Basically small pieces of sauce free plain meat and certain vegetables are safe. It is also a good idea to visit restaurants with your furry friends at off times because sometimes you come across people that don’t like dogs there and it’s good to avoid non-pet friendly people.

We had a very tough month because we lost our beloved Louie to cancer. We thought for our first dining out with Dogs without Louie that it would be best for a new memory.

We picked a family owned business called Sardella’s. It isn’t fancy but they offer a comfortable patio and they serve pizzas, pastas, wings, salads and calzones.

We started out by sharing a generously sized salad made with romaine, spinach and artichokes.

This is only part of the salad.

I kept her busy with plain romaine and spinach.

Then they brought us garlic knots for dining in.

The complimentary garlic knots are tasty….Then our pizzas arrive….

“Pizzas!”

We have a sausage pizza and a pomodoro pizza (cheese pizzas with garlic, tomato, ricotta cheese, basil and Italian seasoning)

I do note that Bread, Cheese and Garlic can be very harmful to dogs. My dog is over 90 pounds and can digest cheese. I am very careful and only give her a very small amount of mostly cheese to taste the pizza.

“Oh that was so tasty!”

“All three of us really like the Pomodoro Pizza Best!”  “It’s special and has the most going on with it.” “The Pomodoro is a nicely seasoned pizza accented with mounds of milky creamy ricotta and slices of sweet roma tomatoes that cut threw the richness.”

“The Forking Truth is that I enjoyed my fist visit to Sardella’s.”

www.SardellasPizza.com

“We are on our way to Lamp Cafe.”

We were on our way to Lamp Cafe but all the patio seats were taken so we went next door to Lamp Pizzeria.

Both Lamp Cafe and Lamp Pizzeria have small but comfortable patios with umbrellas that face each other.

We started by sharing a salad called a Union Salad that was great for sharing.

Two pieces of delicious charred crusty bread, fresh romaine, onions, sweet tomatoes, white beans, provolone cheese and toasted pine nuts.

“I got to eat some romaine lettuce and some beans!”

Then we shared a Neapolitan Style Pizza named the Grandma Pizza.

This is a very flavorful pizza made with provolone cheese, garlic tomatoes, onion and chiles. This pizza was very thin but also was foldable …..if you should desire to fold……with good flavor and the perfect amount of char. It’s a nice light pizza that doesn’t weigh you down. Although it wasn’t needed….. but just for fun we had to have a side of Calabrian Chile Oil that was delicious.

I really enjoyed myself at Lamp Pizzeria!

I’m on my way to Cucina Tagliani in Glendale AZ

Cucina Tagliani is a family friendly type of restaurant that serves American Style Italian Food. We had the Grilled Salmon with Asparagus and Spaghetti Squash and the Spicy Sausage Rigatoni.

Everything is tasty and all is ok!

“I got some rigatoni”

“I really enjoyed spaghetti squash and salmon!”

“I did alright at Cucina Tagliani”

Chicken, Liver and Rice Meatballs Recipe for Dogs

“What are you making me….It smells Forking Delicious!”

For a special occasion or if your dog is very sick like my 15 3/4 year old is…You need to serve special foods that your dog enjoys to keep him eating. My dog LOVES Liver but liver is too rich to feed in meal amounts. I added rice and ground chicken to stretch out the taste of liver. I recommend only leave what your dog will eat in the refrigerator for up to two days and keep the rest of the balls frozen. Serving size will differ depending on size of dog. My dog weighs 60 pounds and he eats 6 balls a day (with other foods) without any issues. He loves this recipe. It’s one of his favorites.

Ingredients that makes about 48 balls

1 lb chicken livers (my package was slightly under)

4 Tablespoons either chicken fat or unsalted butter (2T for liver and 2T for rice)

4 cups chicken stock

2 cups dry white rice

1 lb ground chicken

3 XL eggs lightly beaten

a few cracks fresh ground sea salt

a few cracks fresh ground black pepper

about 8 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

Directions

Set oven to 350 degrees F

Spread out the chicken livers on a baking sheet and split the two tablespoons of butter or chicken fat into about 8 pieces and place over livers.

Place in oven and cook 30 minutes. When you pull the livers out hit them with a light sprinkle of salt and pepper.

While the livers are cooking you can prepare the rice.

Put 4 cups of chicken stock in a pot with 2 Tablespoons of either butter or chicken fat and bring to boil.

Add rice, then cover and reduce to simmer for twenty minutes. Take off heat and fluff rice.

By now the livers will be done. Get a potato masher and mash them like potatoes on the pan with juices and all.

Chicken livers will cool fast but wait till the rice is just warm and then combine the rice with the mashed livers. Then add beaten eggs and then mix in ground chicken.

The mixture will be soft so you need to use a meatball scoop.

Sprinkle olive oil on your sheet pans. I use a paper towel and make sure the whole surface has a light coating of oil.

Scoop out the balls.

Mine were done in 15 minutes at 350 degrees F.

“Oh Fork that smells so good….I hate waiting for them to cook….I want them now!”

The dog is waiting by my feet for the Chicken, Liver and Rice Meatballs.

Chicken, Liver and Rice Meatballs for Dogs Recipe

People can eat these balls too but they only taste like chicken liver with a better texture.

Dining With Dogs February 2017

“We are on our way to Pita Kitchen in Glendale AZ”

Dining with Dogs is just a “Fluff” story about taking my dogs out to eat. We usually go to many of the same local places over and over but we do find a new place now and then. Many of the restaurants in the Metro Phoenix Area do have patios but not all patios are dog friendly or officially licensed to accept dogs. You should always call an establishment to find out if your furry friend is allowed to dine there. I have found that one once dog friendly patio suddenly went non-dog friendly. It’s also always a good idea to have a back up restaurant to go to because the patio might be booked for a party or sometimes another customer will make a stink if they see a dog come in and you might have to leave. There are some rules for dining with dogs. Dogs are not to sit on furniture and dogs are not to eat off plates. Most food that you eat is not safe for your dog and some are toxic. A few of the foods to avoid are most nuts, anything that is or made from a grape, onions, garlic, avocado, chocolate, bread and more. The best snack for your dog is a small plain piece of meat with any sauce removed.

On this particular day went went to Pita Kitchen in Glendale AZ. This is a casual Greek/Mediterranean Grill.

#What am I going to get to Forking eat today?”

I got a Chicken Kabob Salad.

I received a very large and very generous Greek Style salad with TONS of nicely seasoned moist Chicken and warm pita bread.

“UMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmM!”

My husband had a two meat shawarma plate.

“I FORKING need some more chicken”

“We’re on our way to Leo’s Island BBQ in Peoria AZ”

“I never leave hungry from Leo’s Island BBQ”

Leo’s Island BBQ is a family owned casual restaurant in Peoria AZ. They specialize

in the Hawaiian Plate Lunch. That means your meal will consist of generous portions of meat, rice, macaroni salad and some steamed vegetables. They offer around 30 combinations and most are priced at around $8.00.

Today I shared the Lemon Pepper Chicken Plate.

The Chicken is tasty and even with three of us eating it we still had leftovers.

“Hey…I could have eaten more!”

My husband had a combination plate of Fried Fish, Fried Shrimp with BBQ Chicken.

While it’s not fancy food it is good value plates and not much different in price than fast food and is much better than fast food.

www.LeosIslandBBQ.biz

“We’re on our way to Cucina Tagliani”

Cucini Tagliani serves American Italian Foods and offers an Official Licensed Dog Friendly Patio.

The food isn’t trend setting but it’s tasty, made in house, fresh and reasonably priced.

“You better get me something I Forking want because I’m not getting any younger”

I got the Strawberry and Goat Cheese Salad and had plenty of moist seasoned chicken to share with the dogs.

“You can Forking hit me again with some chicken.”

My husband got his usual Papa’s Platter that contains, Veal Parmesan, Sausage Lasagna and TWO Spinach Manicottis.

“That was a Forking Great Meal for me….I was hoping I’d get to eat at Tags Tonight”

www.CucinaTagliani.com

We are so lucky that the older dog  15 3/4 yrs. has made it this far. In September 2015 he was diagnosed with aggressive cancer. At the time he was only expected to make it three  to six months more. He has been on oral low dose chemotherapy since but this sort of medicine can’t be taken at full dose strength for more than a year since it’s so hard on the organs. Currently the cancer has spread to the lungs. We don’t know how many days or weeks we have left. We have to be happy for what we had so far.

Forking Dining with Dogs in Metro Phoenix AZ January 2017

“We are on our way to Amuse Bouche in Surprise AZ”

Dining with dogs is just a “Fluff Story” about taking my dogs out to eat. This is not a full blown restaurant review. Many restaurants around Phoenix do have patios but not all patios are dog friendly. Even if the restaurant has a dog friendly patio you still can be refused service due to a person with allergies or fear of dogs. Other reasons can be that the patio is booked with a party or once I encountered a once dog friendly patio suddenly turning to not allowing dogs so it’s always advisable to be prepared for a dining plan that includes two locations. There are some rules for dining with dogs. Dogs must be by your side at all times and you dog must be well behaved. Dogs are not allowed on restaurant furniture and are not allowed to eat off restaurant plates. You also need to know that most food you eat can be harmful or toxic to your dog. A few of the many foods to avoid are onions, garlic, chocolate, avocado, grapes (anything made from grapes like vinegar, raisins wine) macadamia nuts, most nuts, baked yeasted items  and artificial sweetener. I mostly give my dogs plain meat and try to remove any sauces.

We recently visited Amuse Bouche Restaurant in Surprise AZ. This little cafe makes some of the most impressive food in this immediate area. The husband and wife Chef/Owners have trained in France in French Culinary School.

We started with Risotto Fritters.

I don’t know how they made these Fritters so perfect. The rice is firm but cooked and is in creamy delicious sauce in a very thin and very crisp  bread crumb shell. These Risotto Fritters were excellent.

“Ummm I want some”

I had one of the specials of the day, it was Mushroom and Caramelized Onion Quiche.

The onions and mushrooms settled to the bottom but the taste was amazing. The custard was light and silky and laced with cheese. The crust was thin and buttery and golden brown under the filling and on the bottom. Not soggy at all and was delicious. The mushrooms that  the Quiche contained were developed with flavors. It was delicious. Off to the side of the plate I had a fresh mixed green salad with toasted almonds with blue cheese.

My husband had the Cuban Sandwich with the same side salad I had.

I was told the sandwich was tasty but light with meat for a man’s appetite.

Fortunately he was still willing to share some roasted pork with the dogs.

The dogs also enjoyed some egg custard from the Quiche.

Amuse Bouche does provide a community water bowl for dogs.

For more information please visit www.AmuseBouche.biz

“We are off to Salad and Go in Phoenix”

Salad and Go is a fast casual Drive Threw Restaurant that specializes in serving inexpensive take away salads. You either use the walk up window and sit on the patio…. or take your salad with you back to work or home to eat. They also offer breakfast, soups, wraps and children’s meals.

We all liked the salads last month and my husband ordered the same one called Santa Fee with added steak.

“Oh I like the steak”

I tried the Special Seasonal Salad with Chicken.

It was packed with tasty walnuts, spiced fresh pears, cranberries and blue cheese in a fig vinaigrette.

“The Chicken is really good!”

We are very pleased with what we tried from Salad and Go!

For more information please visit www.SaladandGo.com

“We’re off to Cucina Tagliani in Glendale AZ”

Cucina Tagliani is an American/Italian family friendly restaurant with wait service and an official licensed dog friendly patio. I decided to get something different and got the “lasagna style” Baked Spaghetti Squash.

It looks like a heavy brick but actually the way they made it the baked squash seems very light. The squash is carefully held together and is nicely seasoned and blanketed with cheese and Alfredo Sauce  and surrounded in a pool of marinara. It’s very good I’ll get it again sometime.

“I’ll eat spaghetti squash” “I love spaghetti squash!”

“Only weird dogs eat spaghetti squash.” “Good thing my human ordered a side of chicken ($2.99) for us dogs (particularly ME). “I’d Forking Starve before I’d eat spaghetti squash.”

My husband got his usual “Papa’s Platter” that’s by far the best deal on the menu.

Veal Parmesan, Sausage Lasagna and two Spinach and Cheese Manicotti

“Man “O” man did I do Forking Good today at Cucina Tagliani!”

“We’re on our way to Oscar’s Pier 83 in Glendale AZ”

Oscar’s Pier 83 is a casual seafood restaurant. The specialty is their fish and chips.

Oh No!!!!!!!

#Oh FORK!”

The patio is closed due to being rained on. I live only a short ride away and by my house it’s dry and sunny….Well that’s how it goes…here in mostly sunny Arizona…

I didn’t have a back up plan so we did take out.

Oscar’s Pier 83 has a whopping 4.5 star average on a popular review site from over 300 reviews. While I don’t agree that the 4.5 star average is truthful most of the food they serve is much better than fast food. Both me and my husband ordered the 2pc fish and chips. The cod seems fresh tasting and is flaky. The batter isn’t crisp due to being steamed from the take out package but taste like it was fried in clean oil. The fries taste how they look. Coleslaw is fresh tasting and very mild with flavor. I like that the cabbage is sliced very thin and that it’s not too drippy.

Both dogs enjoyed the fish with me.

Forking Dining Out with DOGS December 2016 in Metro Phoenix AZ

"We're Forking Dining Out Today!"

“We’re Forking Dining Out Today!”

Dining with Dogs is just a Fluff Story about taking my dogs out to eat. This isn’t full blown reviews on any restaurant and often I do take my dogs to same restaurants over and over again.  You need to be aware that not all restaurants with patios are dog friendly. Certified dog friendly patios are recommended but there is always a chance you will be asked to leave because of other people’s allergies or fear of dogs so a plan two should always be in the works. There are several rules to dine out with dogs. All dogs should be well behaved and stay by your side at all times. Dogs are not allowed to sit on furniture or to eat off plates that people use. You also should review the list of dog friendly foods. Most foods you eat can be harmful to your dog. Basically just give them a few bites of plain meat. A few but not all of the harmful or toxic foods are anything made with grapes, macadamia nuts, chocolate, onions, garlic, avocado and bread.

I found a new to us Gourmet Salad Drive Threw called Salad and Go in Phoenix AZ. They specialize in salads and over over ten choices.

img_6537

They also have a walk up window and a Dog Friendly Patio.

With our order they gave us Dog Biscuits and a few minutes latter our salads were ready.

fullsizeoutput_3142

I had a Apple and Mixed Greens Salad that also contained Golden Raisins, Candied Pecans, Apples and Blue Cheese with added Chicken. This was a really great salad and it only cost $7.18

My salad also looked good smelled good to the Dogs.

My husband had the Santa fe Salad with added Steak.

"We're off to Banh Mi Bistro in Phoenix AZ"

“We’re off to Banh Mi Bistro in Phoenix AZ”

We went to Bahn mi Bistro Vietnamese Eatery in Phoenix. This is a Pho Free Vietnamese Eatery. The Specialty of the house are  the Banh Mi Sandwiches. They offer a long list of sandwiches to pick from but they offer something for everyone. The Bahn Mi is a Baguette that is made with rice flour. The bread has a crispy exterior and a soft interior. The sandwiches come with house made aioli, jalapeños, cucumbers, fresh cilantro, carrot radish salad and the filling. The Original also contains pork pate. We come here often because we enjoy the tasty food and the reasonable prices. Other foods we enjoyed here are a variety of rolls, dumplings, lotus and papaya salads and MORE!

I went with the Chicken and Rice Plate and my husband went with a Shaken Beef Banh Mi.

“We are off to Carvalho’s Brazilian Kitchen in Scottsdale AZ”

“Ummmm”

Carvalho’s Brazilian Kitchen in Scottsdale AZ offers maybe the most attractive Dog Friendly Patio  that I’ve ever seen. Our waiter treated the dogs very well and gave my dogs a special bowl of water for them.

I ordered the Salmon that was topped with a Passion Fruit Sauce.

The salmon was well prepared and the passion fruit sauce was was bright, refreshing and was a perfect accent for the salmon. The potatoes were very creamy with lots of butter and there was fresh carrot coins and charred tender broccoli.

My husband got the Traditional National Brazilian Dish of Feijoada. It’s Black Bean Stew that contains sausage, beef and pork with sides of fresh orange, fried collard greens, a big bowl of rice  and for sprinkling nutty tasting manioc flour (cassava).

Besides my husband both dogs enjoyed it all but I wasn’t able to get many pictures of the younger dog because it was very sunny and she stayed under the table the whole time.

“I Forking Love Carvalho’s Brazilian Kitchen. I can’t wait till the next time!”

"We are getting some goodies threw the Burger King Window"

“We are getting some goodies threw the Burger King Window”

Dining with dogs isn’t full blown reviews on restaurants and is only just a fluff story about taking my dogs out to eat. I usually go  to most of the same local favorites but every now and then we do find a new place that’s good for dogs. You must be aware that there are some rules for dining with dogs. First of all dogs must be well behaved. You also must note that not all restaurant patios are dog friendly and it’s always a good idea to call the restaurant first to make sure the restaurant can accept you and your furry friend on the patio and doesn’t have it rented out for a party. You usually do best on certified dog friendly restaurants. Restaurants that are certified usually post a certification in the window and are fully licensed to accept your pet as a guest. Once you pick your restaurant destination and get seated at a patio table you need to follow good pet guest behavior. Dogs are NOT to eat off of restaurant plates, sit on restaurant chairs and must be by your side at all times. Most of the food any restaurant serves can do harmful or possibly toxic to your dog. You should review a list of dog safe foods. Only a very few of the foods to avoid are anything made from grapes, chocolate, avocado, alcohol, bread, onions, garlic and much more. Usually the safest thing thing to feed your dog is to just pinch off some plain meat for dogs and wipe off any sauces.

October is cooling down but we are still having some hot days. The first week of October started out great but heated up by the weekend so we took the dogs out to a Burger King Drive Threw for a Sausage and Egg Breakfast Croissant Sandwich. For some reason the 15 1/2 year old dog really enjoys them and the younger dog likes them too.

Due to the high temperatures we had to mostly only dine in with dogs.

The 15 1/2 year old loves Chicken that I cook more than anything. Maybe that helps keep him going.

img_5731

He squeaks right in when I’m trying to cook. He seems to be doing slightly better. He walking slightly better and isn’t falling as often. I put more carpet runners in the house and that helps a lot. One of his doctors figured out that he walked jerky because he was sore from falling. If he was a person he’d be using a walker but he is a dog so he has to just do the best he can. The younger dog gives me my space when I cook.

fullsizeoutput_2e90

Thankfully October was much cooler than the last few months but almost all of October we were having record breaking heat of mostly 90 degrees F or higher so October was a wash for dining out with dogs.

We Finally started getting some cooler temperatures in the first week of November so we dined out at……….

"Were're off to Banh Mi Bistro Vietnamese Eatery in Phoenix AZ"

“Were’re off to Banh Mi Bistro Vietnamese Eatery in Phoenix AZ”

Banh Mi Bistro Vietnamese Eatery that doesn’t serve Pho. Their specialty are Banh Mi Sandwiches but they also offer many tasty appetizers, salads and MORE! Today we ordered Banh Mi Sandwiches.

I forgot to photo today’s food but I’ll insert a past picture here of one the Banh Mi Sandwiches we got here. I got the same Banh mi as in this picture. It was a Grilled Chicken Banh Mi. Possibly with xtra chicken for only $1. more. (I plan ahead for the dogs) The Banh mi is very tasty with lightly picked carrots and radish. Thin slices of jalapeño for a little heat.  Fresh cilantro and cucumber brightens it up! House made aioli is a nice touch but it’s really the roll that makes this big sandwich easy to eat. The roll has a crisp exterior and a light soft interior. It’s made with rice flour and seems much lighter and not heavy like a regular roll. The white meat chicken is tasty too.

IMG_3682

The dogs are interested in both sandwiches.

fullsizeoutput_2f6d

One dog was breathing hot air on my leg the whole time.

fullsizeoutput_2f6b

Cucina Tagliani offers an official licensed Certified Dog Friendly Patio. They serve American/Italian Foods. All the sauces and dressings are made in house. Portions are large and prices are reasonable.

I ordered the Grilled Chicken Parmesan with Spaghetti Squash instead of Pasta.

fullsizeoutput_308f

Instead I received the Fried and Breaded Chicken Parmesan. When the waitress checked on us I told her I would keep it. The Forking Truth is that the Fried Chicken Parmesan is much more delicious and tasty than the grilled Chicken Parmesan. I just usually get the grilled chicken parmesan because it’s a little healthier. I enjoy sliding the cheese off the chicken to the spaghetti squash to make it tastier. My little buddy in the top picture and lower picture to the left also enjoys the spaghetti squash.

fullsizeoutput_3091

My little buddy to the right just has his mind on my plate minus the spaghetti squash.

My husband got the Spicy Rigatoni with added Meatballs.

Dining out with Dogs around Metro Phoenix AZ September 2016

IMG_5275

Dining out with dogs isn’t full blown reviews on restaurants. It’s just stories about taking my dogs out to eat. Many restaurants in the metro phoenix area do have patios but not all restaurant patios are dog friendly. I do recommend to call the restaurant and make sure that they are still dog friendly without restrictions before you dine out with your furry friends because I have come across one restaurant that went from dog friendly to not dog friendly. There also are some rules to dining with dogs. Your dog is not to eat off the plates or sit on the chair. Your dog is to be by your side and must be well behaved. The other rule is for you and you are to make sure your up on dog friendly foods. Most food that you eat is not good for your dog. Dogs need to stay away from onions, garlic, anything made from grapes, chocolate, avocado and more. Basically just feed your dog a small piece of meat from your meal and wipe off any sauce that’s on the meat. Please get a food safe list from your veterinarian or look it up on the web.

My older dog the 15 1/2 year old on the right was diagnosed with cancer one year ago and was given 6 months to a year by our veterinarian. I thought the nicest thing I could do for him is not to travel so I could take care of him and to take him out to eat once a week if I could. He seems to enjoy it and maybe it helps to keep him going.

It has been a brutal hot summer around Phoenix AZ 2016 and was close to record breaking with 30 days in a row of 110 degrees F. The pavements were flaming hot to burn paws so most of the summer we weren’t able to dine out with dogs. The first week of September actually seemed almost refreshing and was seasonably low in temperature at around 100 degrees F. Although it seems so much cooler it is still too hot to dine out with dogs so we took the dogs to a Burger King Drive Threw before the temperature shot up to 100 degrees a few hours latter.

IMG_5277

The dogs were happy to see food come out the window. They love the breakfast croissant sandwich. I never ate one but my husband says they are really tasty too. September stayed hot until the last week went a monsoon blew threw. We had this one really awesome day where the high was only 85 without any humidity. At the time it seemed cool and refreshing. We decided to take the dogs out to Cucina Tagliani in Glendale AZ. It’s a local family friendly American Italian Style full service restaurant with a certified comfortable dog friendly patio.

"We're off to Tags!"

“We’re off to Tags!”

We tried to beat the crowd and came for an early dinner but it seemed almost everyone in town got the same idea we had and the patio soon filled up.

img_5500

“Oh boy, it’s getting mighty crowded.”

The regular help are nowhere in sight and the bartender runs out to serve on the patio.

We ordered and soon I receive the salmon platter.

img_5501

They gave me linguini with oil and lemon instead of the spaghetti squash I asked for…. but I’m happy because the fish  taste fine and isn’t over-cooked. Believe it or not I’ve recently dined at some of the higher end restaurants in the metro Phoenix Area that didn’t do as well preparing higher quality fish.

The 15 1/2 year old is showing signs of slowing down and it is a fact that he will not get better. He was walking very  jerky after this dining out and happens to be is a little pickier about eating and seems slightly weaker losing his balance from time to time. He also is losing clumps or hair like he’s never done before. Everyday  it looks like someone dumped a grocery bag full of fur in my house. I’m very surprised my dog isn’t bald.

I’m told that his medication can’t be increased. At this time I don’t know if his cancer has spread or if it’s the old age and arthritis that’s happening. He’s lasted much longer than his Oncology Doctor expected (the doctor that studies x-rays and blood and prescribes low-dose chemotherapy pills). When she met him last fall she predicted his last May birthday for the best goal letting me know that he might not make that. His Met Rate was very high. A melanoma in a dog rates at something like a number 3 and his Met Rate was recorded at 40 so she suspected a very quick aggressive cancer. We made it well past the May goal so every day since has been a celebration of life. The good news is that he still has good days and still enjoys things like food, walks and Hot Air Balloons that fly over the house. I think my roasted chicken is his favorite food.

This is the look I got just last week when I was roasting chicken. I don’t know how many more times I will get this look…..but I do hope for many more.

It’s possible that if just taking him out to dine is too straining now because of the very jerky walking he did after dining out and it’s very hard now getting him in and out of the car. I hope this wasn’t the last of dining out with both dogs but it might be…..

Well that was September 2016 Dining with Dogs.

Dining with Dogs in Metro Phoenix AZ August 2016

We're off to Leo's Island BBQ in Peoria AZ

We’re off to Leo’s Island BBQ in Peoria AZ

Dining with dogs is just a fluff story of taking my dogs out to eat. This isn’t full blown reviews on restaurants. This is just a monthly story about taking my dogs out to eat. There are some rules for dining with dogs. Your dogs must sit by your side. Dogs are not permitted to sit on restaurant chairs or to eat off restaurant plates. Remember not all restaurant patios are dog friendly and you should call a restaurant to verify if it’s ok to bring your dog because some restaurants out there go from being dog friendly to not being dog friend and others have certain rules about the size of your dog. You also must be up with the current list of dogs that aren’t safe for a dog to eat. Just because a food is good to you doesn’t mean your dog won’t suffer serious illness from common foods on menus. Onions, garlic, wine, grapes, vinegar, chocolate, avocado, artificial sweeteners, macadamia nuts are not all but are among the foods that dogs shouldn’t eat.

It has been brutally hot in the metro Phoenix area for the past month or so. We had somewhere around 30 days in a row of over 110 degrees F. We just had a monsoon and the temperate went down to 85 degrees F so we thought we could take the dogs out so we went to Leo’s Island BBQ that specializes in the Hawaiian Plate Lunch. A typical plate lunch is lots of meat, lots of rice some steamed cabbage, creamy macaroni salad served up in a styrofoam dish that cost less than $10.00.

I had the Grilled Maui Maui Fish.

IMG_4735

I forgot to photo my plate but from what you can see in the above photo I got a ton of food.

My husband got the BBQ Beef and BBQ Chicken Combo.

Everything was great like it always is.

“HEY, You don’t need all that food send some the FORK over to me.” I don’t have all day so make it fast.”

It got forking hot the very next day….This was one of the hottest Summers in Phoenix AZ History. It’s so hot I fear for people with plastic surgery…bet it forking melts….

The next two weekends we only took the dogs threw the Burger King Drive Threw for an egg, cheese and sausage croissant.

"Oh...what are we getting?"

“Oh…what are we getting?”

Near the end of the month we had a nice cooler weekend and thought we could take the dogs to Banh Mi Bistro Vietnamese Eatery in Phoenix.

"It got Forking HOT fast!" "We're screwed"

“It got Forking HOT fast!” “We’re screwed”

Somehow the 85 degree F temperature suddenly got to an uncomfortable 93 degrees within a few minutes so we just did take out. This time my husband got a BBQ Pork Banh Mi (The photo below is a Shaken Beef Banh Mi with $1.00 extra beef from Banh Mi Bistro that looks similar)

IMG_3681

and I got the Chicken Rice Plate again because it’s very tasty, I enjoy it and also a more healthy meal. I shared a bunch of the chicken with my dogs and I give the egg roll to my husband. Usually I also only eat half the rice because they give a double portion. If I didn’t share this plate it could be two meals.

I didn’t photo the take-out but the food is the same as the picture above. Lots of DELICIOUS flavorful dark meat chicken, a simple but fragrant fresh salad and a generous serving of rice.

Hopefully September will be cooler and we’ll be able to dine out with Dogs again.

Dining with Dogs July 2016

"Give me a kiss old man, we're going out to eat."

There isn’t much to report since it has been too brutally hot in Phoenix AZ to take the dogs out to eat so I’ll let the dogs tell their own story.

“Give me a kiss old man because we’re going out to eat.”

IMG_4373

“We are not forking going out to eat kiddo we are just picking up food because it’s too forking HOT to eat outside. It’s about 110 degrees F today. I also forking hate how you find me irresistible because I’m old enough to be your great great grandpa. I know I’ve been blessed with handsomeness from the handsome fairy but you gotta forking get over it kid! You are NOT my Forking Type.”

IMG_4591

“I don’t care what you say Old Man. Your my favorite dog in the whole world. You let me chew up all your toys. You let me dig up and eat all your bones from the yard. I got it good with you because you let me do anything I want. No other dog would tolerate me like the way you do and boy did I get my butt whooped at the rescue where I came from. This is paradise with you old man. I got it as good as it can be.”

“HEY Look where we are!”

IMG_4592

“Burger King!” “So we wait and bring the goodies home.”

IMG_4376

“Ummmmmm A Burger King Double Plain with Cheese. Not too shabby and I can forking dig it but I won’t actually dig it in a hole because the youngster will just dig it the fork up and eat it like she did with my priceless bone collection……bitch!” “I never had another perfectly aged bone since.”

“The next week. We are on our way to Burger King again.”

IMG_4417

“It’s around 110 degrees F outside and it’s still too hot to eat on a patio so we’re getting a Burger King Croissant egg cheese and sausage sandwich this time because it’s early in the day! It’s nice that our owners take us out to get something.”

“The next week it was 115 degrees Fork! So we just got another Burger King Croissant egg and cheese sandwich.”

“Maybe we’ll get a Monsoon soon to cool things off so we can sit on some patio somewhere.”

The Dogs only get to go to PetSmart (at opening time before the parking lot and pavement get too hot) and Drive Threws when it’s too hot to eat outside.

We are forking hoping for patio dining soon!

Please don’t dine with dogs outside until we have slightly cooler weather. Test the pavement by standing on the pavement with your bear feet for a minute or two and see how it feels. (if you can) On the news just this week they showed a person that needed hospitalization for burns from lying on the sidewalk. It’s that FORKING hot! The whole month of July has been too hot to dine with dogs and I know that you don’t want to burn your dog’s feet so we just have to wait to dine out with dogs.

Dining With Dogs in Metro Phoenix AZ June 2016

"We"re on our way to Cucina Tagliani in Glendale AZ"

“We”re on our way to Cucina Tagliani in Glendale AZ”

Dining with Dogs is not full blown reviews on restaurants. It’s just a “Fluff” story on taking my dogs out to eat.

Many restaurants in the Metro Phoenix Area have patios but not all patios are dog friendly. It’s always a good idea to call a restaurant first before planning to dine there with your furry friend just in case they decided not to be dog friendly any longer.

There are some rules to dining with dogs. Dogs are not allowed to eat off restaurant plates or sit on the restaurant chairs. Dogs also need to stay close by your side.

You also need to be aware that most of the foods you eat are not safe for dogs and you should ask your veterinarian for a list of foods to avoid for your dog and you can also find several list on-line.

We went out to the nicest licensed dog friendly patio nearby at Cucina Tagliani in Glendale AZ. This American/Italian Family Friendly Restaurant has been in business for over twenty years.

My favorite plate to eat for lunch here is the Strawberry Goat Cheese Salad. The greens are fresh. The strawberries taste like they came fresh from a farm and the house made dressing is just right. The Chicken is moist and tasty just like it should be and I can share it with my dogs.

“I’m getting lots of Forking Chicken here!”

IMG_3822

“Your not getting all the Forking Chicken OLD MAN!”

My husband had a spicy pasta dish made with pickled peperchini so the dogs didn’t try any of that because vinegar is dangerous to give to dogs.

The next weekend it hit 115 degrees F. It was too hot to dine out with dogs so we took them through the Jack in a Box Drive threw and got them an Ultimate Cheese Burger no sauce.

"The pavement is too forking hot for my butt and my paws"

“The pavement is too forking hot for my butt and my paws”

I removed 1/2 the bun and feed them 1/2 the burger saving the rest for a treat.  The burger felt fresh and juicy but I can’t eat it because it’s a fast food burger. Dogs seemed to enjoy it.

We're on our way to PetSmart"

We’re on our way to PetSmart”

The next week it was expected to reach 120 degrees F. It was slightly lower but terribly hot even at breakfast time. We took the dogs out early before it reached 100 degrees to the dog friendly dog’s supermarket called PetSmart and went threw a Burger King Drive Threw for a treat for the dogs.

"Oooooh what are we getting?"

“Oooooh what are we getting?”

IMG_4117

I gave them half a breakfast sandwich. It was a croissant stuffed with breakfast sausage, egg and American cheese. The 15 year old particularly really enjoyed it. I didn’t have any but my husband ate the other half.

The following weekend it was close to 120 degrees F in Phoenix AZ so the dogs went threw the Burger King Drive Threw again and we got them the same croissant sandwich.

IMG_4175

For some reason this is one of the dog’s favorite fast food sandwiches.

I don’t recall so many hot days in a row last year….maybe I just don’t forking remember?

Don’t know how many more dining with dogs will be with the 15 year old but his last blood work and X-rays were amazing so I think and hope he’ll be around for a while. His low dose Chemotherapy pills might be slowing down new cancer growth.

It’s the monsoon season here that sometimes brings cooler weather to Phoenix now so there is a possibility we might get to have some Dining with dogs stories.

That was Dining with Dogs June 2016

We forking hope to see you next month!
