Shish Kabob House Las Vegas NV – Worth a Fork!

Shish Kabob House is a Mediterranean Restaurant located relatively close to the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada. They offer some delicious dishes that you don’t find at most other Mediterranean Restaurants. Here you will find most of your usual Mediterranean favorites but you will also find foods like borscht, eggplant caviar, Armenian salad, lamb lula kabob, veal pelmeni dumplings, chicken tabaka, quail, and beef short ribs.

It isn’t a fancy place inside. It almost looks like a banquet hall.

We started out by sharing hummus, eggplant caviar, Armenian salad, and Greek salad.

The eggplant caviar is so tasty. It’s a little garlicky, a little spicy, it taste just right!

The hummus is very smooth. It’s mildly seasoned. It’s probably has more chickpeas in it than most other hummus out there.

Both the Armenian salad and the Greek Salads are very fresh and crisp. The Armenian Salad is especially very refreshing with fresh herbs of mostly dill.

On another visit we tried the grilled veggie salad.

WOW! It’s delicious and really different…..It made of tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, eggplant, and is topped with sliced red onions and is served with flat breads.

We also got to try the falafels.

We got the smaller order of four falafels. The falafels are very large here with herby moist interiors and crispy exteriors.

They come topped with a flat bread and come with something that taste similar to yogurt on the side.

A FANTABULOUS dish here is the chicken lula.

This platter is extra generous in size. Here’s a better look.

The Chicken Lula is FANTABULOUS! It’s so magically moist and tasty. If you eat chicken you will love this….The plate also comes with flat bread, a nicely seasoned fresh salad, blistered tomato and a blistered jalapeƱo, and a big mound of rice.

The beef kabob and beef lula platter is also very good and is set up the same way.

On another visit my husband got a lula platter one chicken and one beef.

Today he said both Lulas were good but the chicken one was better.

This next one was so darn great…..it might be hard to move to try other things on the menu.

This one is called European Seabass. You have your choice of fried or grilled. The server suggested grilled. To me it seems like fried so I think instead deep-frying maybe this fried on the grill? I never eat fish skin…but here is the exseption because it is amazing. Shattering crisp and not fishy tasting but delicious tasting. The flesh is extra mild and almost sweet and just melts in the mouth…..It’s one of the best fish that I’ve had out (and this was only $22. ) It came with an enormous amount of slaw, a lot of fluffy rice, a flatbread, and a roasted tomato.

They do offer delicious sounding desserts but I doubt I’ll ever have the room to try one.

A Little Taste of Viva Zapata’s in North Las Vegas NV – Worth a Try!

Viva Zapata’s is a Mexican Bar, Restaurant, and Gaming place in North Las Vegas Nevada.

The bar is in the middle of the restaurant and on both sides of the bar are tables and booths.

Whatever you order they start you off with complimentary chips, salsa, and bean dip.

Most meals include a cup of fideo soup.

I tried a chipotle caesar salad with added chicken.

The chipotle Caesar Dressing is actually very good. It taste like real Caesar but with some extra smoked chile. The chicken breast meat is nice and tender and developed with flavor. The salad is also generous in size. I got two meals out of it. For my taste the sweet moist corn cake is good but for me doesn’t work with the salad but you can eat it afterwards like dessert.

My husband tried the steak picado (ribeye). It comes in New York or for an upgrade to Ribeye. It’s cut into cubes and sautĆ©ed with onions, tomatoes, jalapeƱos, cilantro, and what they call Spanish sauce. It’s served with rice, refried beans, choice of house made tortillas and a little guacamole.

The beef was very tender but this is a very mildly flavored dish.

I noticed a WHOLE PAGE of seafood on their menu so I wanted to go back and try some.

I tried the Pescado Estilo Las Comadres (Whitefish in Spanish sauce topped with Monterey Jack cheese and served with rice and beans (no beans at my request)

It’s a VERY LARGE portion (for $20.95 subject to change) It came with a chip with guacamole. The fish is extra mild so it seems fresh. The sauce is mainly a rich tomato sauce. The cheese has more flavor than the fish. It’s not bad but I’ll try a different fish dish next time. BTW I got two meals out of this.

The Shrimp Chilies Rellenos (called Chilies Rellenos De Cameron – shrimp sautĆ©ed in olive oil with white wine, onions, tomatoes, cilantro, and jalapeƱos stuffed into pasilla chilies with cheese served with rice and beans with a guacamole topped chip garnish)

This was just a little taste of Viva Zapata’s…..

Oh La La French Bistro – Las Vegas NV – 3 Course Lunch Special – Worth a Fork!

Oh La La French Bistro is located in the Summerlin part of Las Vegas Nevada. They bake breads in house and I was told that nearly everything is made by scratch. It’s a smaller restaurant with a wine bar and they offer a comfortable mix of tables. They are open for lunch, brunch, and dinner. For our first visit I thought we’d try the weekday 3 course lunch special ($32. subject to change) to try a variety of things.

They started us off with a crisp baguette that was lightly salted with quality salt and butter.

My husband tried the escargot.

They came in a very garlic-ee butter-ee sauce adorned with parsley.

I tried the beet salad.

It was very generous in size. The beets were dressed with French goat cheese, some orange, and a vinaigrette.

My husband tried the hachis parmentier (basically the French version of Shepard’s Pie). Ground beef, onions, tomatoes, carrots, topped with mashed potatoes and gruyere cheese.

He thought it was seasoned very nicely and thought it was good.

I tried the salmon croissant. The made in house croissant is impressive. This is the airiest one I’ve ever had anywhere…..It’s like biting into a crunchy cloud.

Inside the sandwich is smoked salmon, creme fraiche, dill, and lemon juice…..On the side is a pile of arugula with a few onion slices and some vinaigrette.

We share the two desserts.

First we dig into the lemon meringue tart.

The lemon curd is very good. It has a rich lemon taste and isn’t too sweet. The crust is good and thin. To me the meringue taste like a marshmallow………

Now for the chocolate mousse.

It taste like real cream on the top with a little caramel drizzle. The mousse is very chocolatey and extra rich with chunks of chocolate in it……….It’s really different but very good.

My Trip to Delucia’s Pizzeria North Las Vegas NV

Delucia’s Pizzeria is a small average Pizzeria located in a shopping center in North Las Vegas Nevada. This isn’t a fancy place but it seems clean. They offer the usual pizzeria type foods like chicken wings, garlic knots, salads, sandwiches, hoagies, pasta, 5 sizes of pizza, calzones and more. They offer bottled and canned soft beverages and bottle beer.

It’s very casual. You order and pay at the counter and seat yourself. They run the food to you when it’s ready.

On a previous visit we did take out a plain pizza.

It taste the way it looks. It’s your typical neighborhood pizza that can use some seasoning.

We eventually came back to have the real experience.

We started out by sharing a large Caesar salad. It came with buttery toasted bread.

the salad is typical of what you should expect from a little casual place like this. The dressing and croutons don’t taste house made and the cheese is powdered but they get points for serving fresh crisp lettuce.

We also shared a 14 inch Italian White pizza (ricotta, basil, tomato)

The generous amount of fresh basil is the highlight here. The restaurant is just an average neighborhood pizza. They don’t have any seasonings here today to enhance it.

My Trip to Ada’s Food & Wine Las Vegas NV

Ada’s Food & Wine is a wine bar that also serves interesting global inspired lighter plates. This restaurant is located in Tivoli Village that is in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas Nevada.

It was nice outside so we decided to be seated on the patio.

We started out by sharing the heirloom tomato salad. On the menu it’s described as sour dough croutons, feta cheese, opal basil, and Lambrusco vinaigrette……

It had a good taste to it but would have been a lot better if a ripe tomato was used. I didn’t taste any feta cheese here. Maybe it was forgotten? We asked our server about it and he never came back with any type of answer.

Both entrees were VERY GOOD but were on the petite side.

The pan roasted chicken thigh had a nice flavor to it and it sat on top of creamed corn studded with crab apple mustarda. This came with two small wedges of blueberry corn bread.

My husband had the garlic and chile shrimp.

The shrimp were prepared with garlic, Aleppo pepper, and lemon and are served over sourdough toast. The things near the bottom end of the plate are crispy roasted garlic cloves that I was told were very good.

It’s easy to fit in dessert here because the one we tried was very tiny. (it’s about the size of my thumb)

The passionfruit has a nice strong passionfruit flavor but the texture is on the thick side.

I think that this place is worth a try for ladies who lunch or others that don’t mind lighter portions.

Carve Prime Rib at The Cannery – North Las Vegas NV – 10 OZ PRIME RIB BURGERS – Certainly Worth a Try!

Carve Prime Rib is the steakhouse at The Cannery Casino Hotel in North Las Vegas. I read that they offer a 10 ounce ground in house Prime Rib Burger so I wanted to give that a try. We sat at the bar.

My husband got the burger mostly the way it comes……with sautĆ©ed mushrooms and onions. It comes with Swiss cheese but he substituted cheddar cheese. The plate came garnished with pickle slices, tomato, and lettuce. A piping hot bowl of skinny fries were served on the side.

I got the same burger but without cheese.

For $20. This is a VERY GOOD burger and I got two meals out of it. I usually don’t care for the skinny fries but they were prepared nicely and stayed hot because of the heated bowl. The portion of fries was also extra generous and I brought a bunch home.

The 10 oz Prime Rib Burger from Carve Prime Rib is certainly Worth a Try!

Taverna Costera Las Vegas NV – Restaurant, Bar, Art Gallery, Music Venue

Taverna Costera is a restaurant, bar, art gallery, and music venue located in the arts district of downtown Las Vegas Nevada. They call themselves a Mediterranean Restaurant but they offer an artsy type of food menu that is pretty much fusion everything and or non-traditional. For appetizers they offer things like hibachi ribeye fries, gyro fries, and pork adobo fries, kalua pig nachos, Japanese corn, and minestrone couscous soup. You can also find things like various pita sandwiches, Hawaiian plate lunches, and Taverna/Dragon bowls and plates.

For seating they have indoor seating, bar seating, patio seating and rooftop seating.

We decided to share the (non-traditional) arancini (here they are fried rice balls made with pretzels and topped with pesto).

They do differ from traditional arancini but still are kind of tasty.

For my main I tried the ahi salad.

It’s furikake coated tuna, mixed greens, mango, onion, tomato, wonton crisp noodles, and miso ginger dressing. It’s reasonably good……..Not bad but can use a punch of something……maybe a drizzle of wasabi? or more ginger?

My husband tried the Hawaii meets Philly steak pita with Swiss cheese, peppers, and onions with wasabi mayo on the side and fries.

It’s reasonably good. The beef is tender and has some developed flavor. The cheese is nice and melted. The fries are fresh and hot.

Or for something different they also offer weekend brunch things like………

Via Focaccia at Ellis Island Las Vegas NV – AMAZING Artisan Sandwiches – Worth a Fork!

Via Focaccia isn’t an ordinary sandwich shop. It is by chef Ismaele Romano who became the 2021 Sandwich champion from the 2021 International Pizza Expo. The fast/casual Artisan Sandwich shop is located in the Ellis Island Casino Hotel in Las Vegas Nevada. My husband got to try one of these focaccia sandwiches recently at the “Unstripped” food festival.

He kept talking about how great this sandwich was…………..This particular sandwich was not for me but they offer several other sandwiches at the restaurant that I wouldn’t mind trying….so….Off we went to Via Focaccia.

It’s a very small food stand. I see only maybe three small high top tables to sit at…….

Not much is in the case.

I already decided on what I’m getting.

I have to try the (non-traditional) brisket pastrami from an official sandwich champion. (brisket pastrami, caramelized onions, mushrooms, fontina cheese, honey mustard aioli)

We wait a little while till our order is ready……

WOW!

WOW! This is FORKING GREAT! The pastrami sandwich has been reinvented. The pastrami is full flavored, tender, and the right amount of fat for this sandwich. Never in a million years could I imagine pastrami on bread like this but somehow it does work in a magical way. Usually I find mustard that is too strong to go with the bold flavors of pastrami but the honey mustard aioli is a perfect embellishment that doesn’t compete with the flavors. It enhances. All the flavors and texture are perfect together.

My husband enjoyed the sandwich called Classica (ham, mortadella, cappicola, provolone, olive spread).

He said that this was a really great sandwich. He also thought that the meats were high quality. He liked it so much he said, “I’ll go here anytime you want.”

Lunch at Nora’s Cuisine Las Vegas NV – Worth a Try!

Nora’s Cuisine is an award wining Italian Restaurant located in Las Vegas Nevada (a short distance from the Las Vegas Strip). They offer dinner every night and lunch is served Monday-Friday. They are a little different than most places because they offer a long menu of many dishes to pick from. This is also a very large restaurant with multiple dining areas, a bar, and patio dining.

Bread service is an optional $1. per person. You might get plain or garlic toast. We got garlic toast.

My husband started to with a bowl of pasta faggioli.

I tried the Scottish salmon with arugula and tomato.

The fish is seasoned well and was prepared reasonably well. The arugula was bright and bitter in a good way and seemed extra fresh. The red tomato wedge was delicious. It was marinated and sweet and flavorful. The two lighter wedges tasted raw…

My husband enjoyed the falcita lunch. (rope sausage, house salad with aged provolone)

We managed to save room to try a dessert and went for the almond cake.

It was made with ricotta and almond flour and was topped with vanilla sauce. It was very good but tasted more like a slice of lemon cake.

Louie Louie The Restaurant Las Vegas NV – Unique Sushi and Hibachi

Louie Louie The Restaurant in Las. Vegas Nevada serves sushi, unique sushi rolls, and hibachi. This is a full service restaurant and bar.

We started out by sharing a salmon tostada.

The salmon is very fresh and it’s topped with pico, avocado and herbs. Under is a creamy sauce that is bright and very lime-ee.

We shared one of the Louie Louie Specialty rolls called the Ozzy Roll. (tuna, salmon, avocado, wasabi tobico ((also spelled tobiko flying fish roe)), black tobico, masago ((capelin roe)))

This was an amazing roll bursting with all kinds of delicious flavors! It’s so detailed.

Teeny tiny lemon wedges with little tiny crisp things. It’s popping with all kinds of flavors and some heat too!

We also shared a filet mignon and chicken hibachi.

It came out sizzling like a fajita.

The vegetables were zucchini, carrots, onions, and broccoli. You dip them in the creamy sauce (basically a sriracha mayo) and you dip the meats in a ginger-ee type sauce. This also comes with steamed rice but you do have the option to upgrade to fried rice or noodles. Today the beef came out better than the chicken.
