3on Smith Cafe in Phoenix AZ – Worth a Fork!***UPDATE NOW CLOSED FOR BUSINESS

UPDATE *****NOW CLOSED FOR BUSINESS ****3on Smith Cafe is a small Brekkie ……Australian for Breakfast, Lunch Cafe. I read in the Phoenix New Times that the three owners are from Australia. The name “The Smith” is a reference to Smith Street a sort of Restaurant Row in Melbourne. I didn’t notice anything obviously Australian on the menu but they do refer to breakfast items as Brekkie. The 3on Smith Cafe is located in a strip mall called Gaslight Square in the Arcadia Area in Phoenix.

We entered and someone quickly brought us to our seat. Seems like a busy little place with a clean open kitchen and several busy workers. The dining room also has an attached patio to the side.

I noticed House Corned Beef on the menu…..How impressive….Very few places actually corn their own beef. Often most restaurants that serve corned beef purchase brined (corned) beef and cook it in the kitchen (or they just purchase deli meat). I am especially surprised to find house corned beef on the menu in a small restaurant.

I tried the house corned beef sandwich called The Corny Cow.

It’s a Grilled Sourdough Bread with Smith mayonnaise, Swiss Cheese, Charred Onions and a generous portion of tender House Corned Beef. The beef is perfect fat wise…..not too much and just enough. However the Corned Beef taste like no other. It’s good but it is so different. It’s like the normal background flavors are out in front….Cloves, Ginger and Allspice I keep tasting…..It’s almost refreshing in a weird way. The flavors just linger and linger….. It sort of cuts the rich onions. I confess I like to remove the tops with the cheese so I get two sandwiches in one. I got a tasty grilled cheese and an open face Corned Beef Sandwich that is like no other I ever had before. I have to wonder about the flavors………..is this Genius????? ………or is this the product of someone who has little understanding on what Corned Beef should taste like????????…………..Anyways it’s naughty but it works so who cares………….On the side is a mixed green salad with balsamic dressing. It helps to lighten things up.

My husband had the sandwich they call The Green Pig. It’s a Green Chili Pork with just the right touch of Cilantro aioli and pickled onion on a pretzel bun.

It’s a nice BIG Sandwich that’s packed with flavorful tender pork that has a little heat to it. My husband loved this sandwich.

We were very impressed with our first visit to 3on Smith Cafe in Phoenix.

Service was speedy and efficient.

The Food was delicious and a great value.
