My Visit to PT Pho Express Glendale AZ – Newly Opened – Worth a Try!

They offer most of your Vietnamese favorites…..The offer appetizers like spring rolls, crispy egg rolls, and wings. They also offer a chicken salad, sandwiches, a Vietnamese burrito, 8 varieties of noodle soup called Pho, noodle bowls called bun, stir fry noodle dishes, plenty of rice dishes, teriyaki, curry, orange chicken and more. They offer many of your usual beverages and they also offer Vietnamese coffee, mint lemonade, and smoothies. They offer macarons for dessert.

It’s casual inside. You get partial wait service. They take your order. They run out your food and beverages. When you are done you walk up to the counter and pay.

We started out with chicken spring rolls.

Vietnamese Spring Rolls

They are larger than others I’ve had and do have a nice dramatic presentation. They seem free of herbs. Chickens is tender in them. The sauce is a slightly flat.

Tried the PT Chicken Curry.

The sauce is good. I get fresh lemongrass, and fresh ginger, I added one slice of jalapeño and it is also pretty hot. The chicken in it is tender but it taste undeveloped with flavors. They were very generous with the carrots and potatoes in this dish. Some people might make two meals out of this.

My husband tried the Hot & Spicy Bun Bo Hue.

It’s a slightly spicy beef/pork broth with rice noodles and sliced beef. It also is a very large portion.

Worth a Try!

My Trip to Eh Guey Tacos – Glendale AZ

Eh Guey Tacos is a small Mexican Restaurant located in a Mobil Gas Station on Union Hills Drive in North Glendale Arizona. They offer breakfast plates, breakfast burritos, Tacos (shrimp, cabeza, pastor, quesataco, cactus, pollo, and asada). They also offer tortas, quesadillas, rolled tacos, salads, bowls, and flauntas, enchiladas, and combo plates.

Yes Eh Guey Tacos really is in a gas station. I look up on how to translate Eh Guey Tacos and I can’t say for sure if I translated it correctly but my best guess is that it means…….Hey Tacos Man or Hey Tacos Dude.

They do have some seating inside but most people we saw do take out.

seating

Here is where you order and pick up.

Today we tried-

pollo (chicken) and Shrimp tacos

Chicken and shrimp tacos came in corn double shells that were lightly grilled. The shrimp tacos are presented different from the other tacos with shredded lettuce, cheese, grilled peppers and onions.

cabeza tacos (beef cheek)

We also tried cabeza tacos. You can’t see but the cabeza has some guacamole on it under the onions.

asada tacos

steak tacos

quesataco

What they call a quesotaco. It’s birria beef and cheese. Usually they come with consommé…..not today

We added on a side order of guacamole, rice and beans, and got a few salsas.

Some tacos today were better than others but none were bad…….As you see they are good sized tacos and not all but maybe the average eater can only eat two because of their generous size. Most were average and not bad. We mutually both thought that the chicken taco was one of the stand out tacos here today. It was dark meat tasty moist tender delicious chicken with a lot of flavor to it. The other best my husband thought was the shrimp taco. The shrimp were fresh tasting and prepared perfect. Maybe I am too fussy here but I didn’t care for either beef…(but then again I do note I am normally not a beef person)…..The asada was too chewy for me. I thought the cabeza had a better flavor but was too fatty for me and gave me the heebie jeebies. Rice and beans were average.

That was my trip to Eh Guey Tacos.

Sushi Little Glendale AZ – The Forking Truth – Was only a Little Good

Sushi Little is a small sushi restaurant that recently opened in the Arrowhead area of Glendale Arizona. They are in the spot where Ginger Bistro used to be.

Ordering is difficult. They do not have wait service so you have the menu, a menu of sushi to read, a specials menu, and around twenty-five rolls to read about at the counter. Then you pay and seat yourself. They do offer soft and some hard beverages. We asked about soju but they only have peach flavored soju. I went with iced tea and my husband asked for a cup of water. We were charged $3.00 for my iced tea…That’s fine…but we weren’t expecting to be charged $3.25 for the cup of water that we served ourselves.

We ordered a variety of things.

One of the better things of the visit was the gyoza.

They were a little on the plain basic side but really seemed ok.

Then came the mackerel.

Slightly off…..but often the mackerel is slightly off. Some people decide on sushi restaurants by the mackerel. Personally I think that it is more fair to judge sushi restaurants on their tuna. You know right away if tuna is good or not.

Next we got smoked salmon nigiri, ahi tuna nigiri, and a Red Sea roll (spicy tuna, cucumber, ahi tuna, Japanese style chimichurri).

The BEST of what we tried here was the smoked salmon sushi in the left upper corner of the dish. It did taste good but was cut very strange…..You can’t see in the photo but the fish was almost triangle shaped. Still the smoked salmon made me crave a bagel and cream cheese…..After that we go down hill.

The rest isn’t spoiled and is passable but not good so I didn’t enjoy.

We end by sharing the salmon kama (fish collar). Before it came by husband could see it going in the microwave with the open kitchen.

I could hear the microwave door shut. Then he pulls it out and microwaves it again. (This restaurant shouldn’t have an open kitchen when they cook like that!)

Soon someone runs it out but doesn’t even think about clearing our dirty plates on the left side of photo below.

The collar was over cooked from the microwave. The fatty ends of the fish are actually boiling. The fish also isn’t the freshest and is over cooked and dry. This is the WORST collar that I have tried anywhere…..I used to think that fish collars were good everywhere. They are the most flavorful fattiest parts of the fish…..I usually only had very good ones.

The girl who ran it out did ask how it was……I said that it was over cooked and she had no response.

Based on only one visit I can’t recommend Sushi Little in Glendale AZ.

Sushi Little was only a Little Good.

Phoenix Phresh Glendale AZ – Low Cost Healthy Style Foods

Phoenix Phresh is a casual/fast healthy style focused food cafe located in Glendale Arizona. They offer breakfast, wraps, sandwiches, salads, bowls, acaia and pitaya, smoothies, and juices. Calories and nutritions are posted on their menu. They also are located in a strip mall by a gym. Of course healthy beverages are offered here. The side refrigerator contained a few different waters and teas. Between the counter and refrigerator was complimentary cucumber water (that really was delicious).

It’s a small casual place. You order and pay at the counter and seat yourself.

Soon someone runs the food to our table.

Today I tried the 490 calorie mixed berry salad (romaine, strawberries, blueberries, walnuts, cranberries, blue cheese, chicken, and strawberry dressing……It was only $10.99 ((subject to change))

mixed berry salad

It’s a very large entree salad. I saw in the restaurant that Boars Head lunchmeats were used here but I only expected them on the sandwiches and wraps. I was surprised that lunchmeat was used for the salads too. There is a lot of fresh fruits here but the lunchmeat chicken has sodium phosphate in it and doesn’t seem that healthy?……but maybe it is healthy for watching your weight because it is only a small amount of lunchmeat……(maybe 1-2 ounce??) The strawberry dressing does run a little sweet. For it’s price point it’s A-OK. My salad seemed big but for some reason I was hungry a few hours latter????????

My husband tried the 670 calories El Diablo Bowl (brown rice, black beans, spicy Boars Head Chicken lunch meat, pepper jack cheese, jalapeños, eggs, chipotle sauce (($10.99 subject to change))

el diablo bowl

It might be hard for you to see but this bowl is very small and is half the size of my salad. My husband said that it actually does taste good. He also added that if we go back he’d order two bowls next time. (I don’t think that this would be enough food for most men…..my husband left still hungry)

That was a little taste of Phoenix Phresh – Low cost healthy style foods. Very good for dieting. Calories and nutrition is on the menu.

Pacific Seafood Buffet Glendale AZ – Newly Opened

The Pacific Seafood Buffet is two locations again. They have one location in Chandler Arizona and One again in Glendale just two miles away from their old location that was torn down and will become a Cheddar’s Restaurant. The buffet is open everyday even holidays for lunch and dinner. They offer over a hundred different things to choose from.

Maybe you want to start with common sushi.

Or maybe you want some sashimi? Oh take both!

They have lots of fried tasty things. My favorite here are the little sesame balls stuffed with sweet bean paste.

They have dumplings, steamed buns and stuffed leaves and more! DIDN’T I TELL YOU THAT ALMOST NOTHING IS MARKED? Everything (almost) is a surprise. I took one of each steamed bun…Both I never had before. One was filled with sweet egg custard. The purple one was filled with sweet white bean paste. I saw a few different kinds of chicken feet here today and they added pizza as we were leaving.

They do offer several shellfish dishes. I took some mild whitefish with ginger scallions and a dish that I never had at a buffet before…The sweet and spicy mild fried white fish….It might have been the best dish I tried today. The other best dish I tried were the mushrooms….They were baby brown mushrooms that were really good. I also like the baby bok choy. They were smaller than what I usually find and were tasty and slightly still tender crisp.

That mackerel in the upper right was my least favorite today. I couldn’t stomach it.

The green beans were good. Next to it was a tofu stir fry. On the other side was some sort of stir fried tilapia that looked like chicken…..My husband tried it…….It was not great but edible.

Don’t remember what was in the pans below.

The desserts………..nothing too exciting. Fill up before you get here.

And the frozen desserts.

That was a little taste of the Pacific Buffet in Glendale AZ. It’s not high end but The FORKING Truth is that it is better than some places.

Lutong Bahay Filipino-Asian Restaurant & Minimart Glendale AZ- Lowest dining prices in town! Worth a Try!

Lutong Bahay Filipino Asian Restaurant & Minimart is located in Glendale Arizona. It’s very casual here because the restaurant food is served cafeteria style. Maybe your not so familiar with Filipino food? You should not be afraid to try something…..Filipino food is all inspirations from multiple cultures such as Spanish, Malaysian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, and American.

You decide if you want one, two, or three entrees (prices are subject to change but on my visit they were one entree $6.75, two entree $8.99 and three entree $14.99)

On our visit we couldn’t see the food because all the pans were covered. They do have names of the dishes written on the clear plastic sneeze guard in front of the pans. Most of the names of the dishes I wasn’t familiar with so you ask for the type of meat that you are interested in such as fish, chicken, beef, or pork…..and you get your choices that way.

Today my first choice was something chicken….They only had one chicken dish today. She lifted the lid so I could see it. It looked like chicken rice soup. I was in the mood for something different and I went with the fried tilapia.

I have no idea on how they make any money selling me this for only $6.75. The fish is seasoned nice and it doesn’t even seem fried. It’s not oily at all. The rice seems fresh made.

My husband tried the dinoguan (beef) and pork adobo with two scoops of rice $8.99.

The meats are both succulent and tender….They are both good but kind of plain and very mildly seasoned……

We walked around a little to check out some of the groceries.

They have a bit more than I photographed…Frozen meats, fish, packaged goods.

That was my trip to Luton Bahay Filipino-Asian Restaurant & Minimart in Glendale AZ. Lowest dining prices in town! My whole fish with a scoop of rice was only $6.75! That’s cheaper than fast food! Go here instead!

La Satisima Gourmet Taco Shop Glendale AZ – Over FIFTY Tacos and MORE!*****THIS LOCATION NOW CLOSED FOR BUSINESS

*******THIS LOCATION NOW CLOSED ******La Satisima Gourmet Taco Shop has two locations in Metro Phoenix Arizona. One location is in Phoenix and the other location is by Old Town Glendale Arizona. The Old Town Glendale location isn’t a fancy place but it is decorated in a day of the dead kind of theme.

Ordering isn’t impossible but it can be kind of difficult deciding on what you want………because…… On the menu are over FIFTY different tacos that you can get into five different STYLES (cazuela((bowl)), burro, lonche ((sandwich)), quesa ((Mexican mesa like calzone)),and then can UPGRADE each style to something else……enchilada style (sauces +), entrijolada (refried beans+), mariachi taco (crispy & soft+), taquetzin protein style (crispy cheese outer).

Besides tacos there is more. There are salads and many specialty entrees like Baja Sur Baby Shark, Mazatlan Marlin, Oaxacan Black Mole Chicken, Mexico City Style Chicken Tinga, Cochinita Pibil, Nogada Tacos and MORE!!!!

They start you off with complimentary chips and then you hit the very special and unique salsa bar.

There are LOTS of salsas here. Some of the salsas might be strawberry, peanut, pecan, sesame, cactus, chipotle, avocado, tomatillo.

Since there is over 50 tacos on the menu chances are that you are going to try a taco or two or more.

Marlin (left) and battered whitefish tacos (right)

On my most recent visit they made the marlin taco very different see below.

I think my marlin was accidentally coated with tamarind salsa? Under the cheese the fish is coated with something that was dark brown….Liked the above marlin taco better. (and the below marlin taco better)

Smoked marlin and chicken mole tacos

pork, chicken tinga, basket taco plate with rice and refried beans

Vegetable stuffed quesa (tasty. like a taco. tasting calzone)

On my recent visit I tried 4 tacos and it was one or two tacos too many for me….(I was stuffed and I didn’t even eat it all)…..My favorites tonight were the cauliflower mole taquetzin style crisp cheese jacket (lower left side) and the chicken tinga (lower right) both were delicious and flavorful. Wasn’t a good day for the fish tacos I tried. The pastor maui maui taco on the upper right would have been delicious if the fish was fresher tasting….I just really didn’t like the smoked marlin the way they made it today….Shame because I used to think that I tasted the very best marlin tacos outside of Mexico I used to get here. I’ll go back but might not get fish tacos next time.

My husband is a bigger eater than me and had 4 tacos wit rice and beans.

He had the chorizo in the taquetzin cheese jacket and said that it was very good. He also had a different chicken taco, one of the beef tacos, and a pork taco. He liked them all but didn’t all of them were the ones he ordered.

The restaurant has a really big menu with lots of options. The food that comes out might differ slightly from description.

Italian Passover and Italian Easter in Metro Phoenix Arizona – Veneto Trattoria and Bottega Pizzeria Ristorante

There were several Italian Restaurants serving Easter Meals in Metro Phoenix in 2019. One Italian Restaurant called Veneto Trattoria in Scottsdale Arizona differed from the other restaurants and offered Passover Dinners in Venetian Style to honor the Jews of ancient Italy. It seemed interesting to us so we gave it a try. Incase you didn’t know….Passover is the Jewish holiday that celebrates the Israelite’s liberation from slavery in Egypt. Passover dinners were $42.50. The daily menu was also offered.

We were seated on the patio. It’s a nice large patio with shade and lovely marble top tables.

We received complimentary matzo with a honey nut marmalade. (pictured at top of page)

Our first course was Venetian Style Matzo Ball Soup called Polpette in Brodo di Matza e Pollo all Veneziana.

It’s a light chicken broth with thin bars of celery, other vegetables and chicken. The matzo ball is light and fluffy. I don’t know what makes this Venetian Style but it’s a good bowl of Matzo Ball soup.

For my dinner I picked the Sautéed Petrale Sole with sweet tomatoes and golden raisins that came with braised fennel and sweet potato kanederli (a pasta that is similar to gnocchi).

The sole is mild, tender and flakes well. It’s prepared nicely. The sweet tomatoes with the raisins tastes more sweet than savory. The fennel is almost like a steak and is very good. Sweet potato kanederli are made nicely and have a flavor that compliments everything.

My husband tried the Chicken stuffed with Dry Cherries and Pine Nuts sautéed in dry cherry wine.

I tried a small bite. The chicken is tender like butter. The stuffing is more savory than I was expecting…slightly mineral-like but tasty and delicious.

Last course was an Almond Cake Drizzled with Chocolate Sauce called – Torta Di Mandorle.

The cake is quite great! It’s spongy, light and very moist. It’s not too sweet. It’s studded with a few surprises. It’s just very good!

That was Italian Passover Ancient Venetian Style at Veneto Trattoria.

www.VenetoTrattoria.com

Then on Easter Sunday we did a bunny hop over to Bottega Pizzeria Ristorante in Glendale for Easter.

Incase you were wondering what Easter is I can tell you that it is not about chocolate bunnies and jellybeans. Easter is the Christian Holiday that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the New Testament.

They offered the regular menu, the lunch menu, a brunch menu and the Easter Specials.

They started us off with fresh baked breads, soft butter, olive oil and house spicy oil. We both decided to try the Spaghetti al Salmone.

The home made fresh pasta was very good! it was studded with chunks of wild caught salmon and blistered tiny sweet tomatoes in a saffron laced light slightly creamy sauce that had a little bit of heat to it. It was very reasonably priced at only $18.00 for a holiday meal.

We also shared the Easter Dessert Special of Limoncello Tiramisu.

Wow this is also really great! I like this more than traditional tiramisu. It’s light, lemony, not too sweet with the right amount of tartness. The layers of soaked lady fingers taste like limoncello…. It’s a treat and a sweet ending!

That was Easter at Bottega Pizzeria Ristorante.

www.BoteggaRistorante.com

That was so great that Veneto Trattoria served ancient Venetian Style Passover Dinner and that Bottega Pizzeria Ristorante served the public on Easter with a nice special.

Everything is subject to change I don’t Forking know if these restaurants will serve Easter or Passover next year.

My First Taste at Casa Terra Vegan Restaurant in Glendale AZ – Worth A Fork!

Casa Terra is a fine dining vegan restaurant located in Old Town Glendale Arizona. This is small restaurant that offers fine mostly organic vegan Mediterranean – Mexican inspired foods. This is a small restaurant so it’s best to have a reservation to assure to be seated. They are without bar seating but cocktails and wines are available.

The building was built in 1940 and was originally a Smart and Final Whole Sale Company.

When you walk in you might notice to your left side a serving station, a waiting bench, and glass doors with a kitchen view of a wood oven.

The dining room is straight a head and it fills up fast. The old fashioned tables are small and plates might get crowded. Tables are close together but it’s charming and cozy.

They started us out with complimentary crisp flatbreads and tomatillo salsa verde. They were seasoned nicely and were delicious!

We then shared THREE appetizers, one dinner and one dessert. The appetizers we tried were all very small but all were delicious and very well seasoned.

My favorite appetizer was the Tapas Tacos ($9.00).

These are very small street sized tacos but are very well packed. The tortillas are house made and the filling is full of many textures and many flavors. They are delicious and very satisfying you sure don’t miss eating meat with this one.

The ping pong ball sized Truffled Arancini ($13.00). Were crisp, seemed free of oil and had a delicious mushroom taste.

The “Impossible” Albondigas with Polenta ($15.00) have spot on flavor that is exactly like chorizo. (also ping pong ball sized)

These albondigas have really great flavor but are on the mushy side today. The faux ricotta could pass for for genuine ricotta and is very good. The polenta was good but we both thought it was a scant serving as it only paints the plate. When I scooped up my half it amounted to about a teaspoon but it was good!

For dinner we shared the Chile En Nogada Special ($18.00).

We were told that depending on the size of the peppers the dish will be prepared with either one large pepper or two small peppers. We received two small peppers. The Chile En Nogada was filled with mostly bulgur and vegetables and was sauced with a creamy nut based sauce. It was sprinkled with pomegranate seeds and little cubed beets that look like gems.

I’m full by now but go for dessert anyway and try the Chocolate Torte.

I like the spiked vegan cream….It seems lighter and is more delicate than regular cream. The sauces and fruit is great too. The Cake is explosively steaming hot……This cake is made to order because of the hot steam coming out of it and we waited about 20 minutes for it.

Then with the check they gave us complimentary Convent Fudge (authentic Mexican Fudge) that was absolutely delicious!

I would say Casa Terra is Worth a Fork!
