Food Stock 2023 – P83 Peoria AZ Sports Complex

Food Stock is a Food Truck Gathering Event. This year 2023 over 50 food trucks were expected. Some are participating to offer $3.00 samples. This event took place 4-10pm Saturday April 15th at the Peoria Sports Complex in P83 in Peoria Arizona. Besides food trucks they also offer a full bar, bounce houses, a splash pad, play ground, and face painting. Admission for adults was $5.00 and children 12 and under was free. They also are suppose to have live music and FREE parking too!

According to www.AllEvents.in these are the food trucks that are expected to show up.

I planned to make Red Ginger my #1 destination but the Red Ginger Food Truck was no where to be found…..Bah that was my real reason for attending. …….Anyways…….. I’m familiar with a bunch of the food trucks and I had really great experiences at some of them.

It’s nice and sunny today. I think it’s close to 90 degrees F. There are a few areas for shaded seating. They also have a few bars set up.

Bottles of purified water cost $6.00 today.

The tacos from Good Eats Only Mexican Kitchen were downright amazing the first time we had them so we gave them a try here.

Today we tried a chicken taco and a carne asada taco.

Still good……but a little dry today. The hand made tortillas are very good.

We enjoyed the most amazing sandwich from Bro Bro’s BBQ so today we gave them a try.

My husband tried a $3. sausage sample.

And we shared a brisket plate with jalapeño Cole slaw and potato salad.

Still good but not incredible like last time…..From my experiences none of the BBQ places are ever perfectly consistent. The slaw is very crisp and fresh but a little on the bland side and lacks jalapeño. On the other hand the potato salad taste like the type Costco sells but is topped with lots of seasoning and heat.

I thought I remembered hearing positive things about the next food truck. Our last food truck to try was Lili’s Tacos.

We tried a chicken and a beef taco.

These tacos were topped with lots of fresh herbs and came with lemon and HOT pickled carrots. Both taco meats have a texture that is between chopped and ground. I think the chicken meat is a little flat. Green salsa is on the flat side. Really don’t like the red sauce at all…..It’s very HOT and taste like you’re licking the spice out of a spice jar. (taste like cayenne & paprika…LOTS of paprika)

That was Foodstock 2023.

Bigs Peoria AZ – American Bar & Grill – Worth a Try

Bigs is an American Casual Comfort Food and Sports Bar kind of place with two locations. The original location is in California and the one I went to is in Peoria Arizona. It’s in the entertainment and sports area called P83.

It’s a sports bar so there are a lot of big screen TVs inside and a lot of high top community tables.

inside on a non-sports day

We sat at one of the few traditional tables on the patio.

We started out by sharing the mac ‘n’ cheese balls.

mac ‘n’ cheese balls

They are deep fried panko coated white truffle mac ‘n’ cheese that sit in what they call Asian zing and chipotle ranch. The balls are fried very nicely and don’t seem greasy at all. The inside is strange.

inside

They are made with chopped up pasta. The strangest part is that they don’t even taste like cheese. To me they taste more of butter than cheese. They aren’t terrible but don’t taste like what I was expecting. Neither of us cared for the Asian zing sauce. I thought the chipotle sort of overpowered everything in the ball but it was ok that way.

For my main I had the seared ahi quinoa salad.

seared ahi quinoa salad

It’s a very large salad with mixed very fluffy greens, thin slices of avocado, crispy cucumber, tomatoes, little bits of quinoa, cajun seared ahi tuna, and honey ginger vinaigrette. Everything seems fresh! It all taste good. But there are so many greens…enough for two big salads.

My husband tried the chili verde plate.

chili verde plate

It’s a big bowl of slow cooked pork in tomatillo sauce with neutral rice, refried beans, and tortillas. It’s different…..There is a lot of pork that is cooked nicely. The tomatillo sauce is good but kind of plain…..They do have a variety of condiments that can be added. The tortillas were nicely heated but we received flour instead of the corn tortillas ordered.

Worth a try.

The FANTABULOUS Dish – The Arugula Salad from REVOLU Modern Taqueria & Bar – WORTH A FORK!

The FANTABULOUS Dish means – Top of the line, marvelously good, peachy keen, and dynamite! WOW what a great surprise . You just don’t always know when a FANTABULOUS dish will show up. This salad just blew both of us away. It’s only named Arugula salad. I picked it to share as an appetizer instead of chips because it sounded lighter and healthy. I wasn’t expecting jaw dropping fireworks of flavors……

The Arugula Salad from REVOLU Modern Taqueria & Bar in Peoria AZ

This salad is made of avocado, watermelon, red onion (pickled), pico, toasted pepitas, cotija cheese, and this MAGICAL chili-lime vinaigrette.

I need to mention as astonishingly delicious as this salad is ………I must mention that it is spicy HOT. Borderline too hot for me but it was so DAM delicious I had to keep eating it. You get sweet from the watermelon, creamy from the avocado, hot and delicious from the MAGICAL chili-lime vinaigrette, Umami from the cheese, yummy from the pepitas and the right amount of bitter from the arugula. It’s far more delicious than I can describe. You can also add on protein to this dish if desired.

The Arugula Salad from REVOLU Modern Taqueria & Bar is an official FANTABULOUS DISH and is WORTH A FORK!

First Taste of Revolu Modern Taqueria + Bar in Peoria AZ – Worth a Fork!

Revolu Modern Taqueria + Bar is a Mexican Southwest street food style restaurant and bar. They have two locations in metro Phoenix. One is in Phoenix and the one I visited is in Peoria Arizona by the Peoria Sports complex by P83. The majority of the menu offerings are shareable plates and over a dozen types of street tacos. They also offer cheese crisps, bowls, fajitas, and more.

We came around a holiday weekend when most places were closed today.

They have bar seating.

They also have traditional seating and a large patio with high top tables.

We started out by ordering the chips and trio of salsas. (this I forgot to photo)

The seemed freshly made and were served warm. The three salsas that we received were a roasted salsa, a tomatillo salsa, and pineapple habanero salsa. Everything was tasty. The pineapple habanero had very strong pineapple flavor with a nice not too hot heat from the habanero.

I tried three street tacos. They come with rice and beans or you can upgrade the sides to elote.

I tried the potato head, Del Mar (beer battered mild white fish), and the Nashville hot chicken street tacos. All the tacos are over stuffed and some are extra saucy. I wouldn’t recommend them on a first date with someone unless you are very comfortable with any situation……(You will look very messy). The first one I tried was the one called potato head “queso style” with a crispy hard cheese shell around the taco (I thought the cheese shell would taste best on the potato taco and I think that I was right) This potato head taco is really scrumptious queso style. It’s full of all kinds of flavors. The Del Mar (beer battered fish taco) is tasty with the chipotle aioli. The Nashville Hot Chicken taco doesn’t remind me of Hattie “B”s but it sure is tasty so it’s a win. I was pretty full by now. but I did manage to taste the rice and beans. Both. were very good and better than from most places. I’d say the beans might have been the best vegetarian beans that I have tasted anywhere.

My husband tried the chorizo, carne asada, shrimp diablo, and carnitas. All of them were good. The carne asada was tender. The shrimp diablo was extra spicy.

I have to say that our first taste of Revolu Modern Taqueria + Bar was Worth a Fork!

A Little Taste of Headquarters Grill Bar Sushi in Peoria AZ – There is a lot to taste there

Headquarters Grill Bar Sushi is located in North Peoria Arizona in P83. This is an American Restaurant with a full bar, thirty two taps, over fifty HDTVs, and a food menu that is all over the place. It almost like you name it and they probably have it.

They try to please any appetite.

Maybe you want to start with something healthy like edamame?

Or something unhealthy but more fun like made in house macaroni and cheese bars with spicy ranch sauce.

You can have tacos (two chicken tacos one Korean Style beef).

You can also have sushi tacos ( fried seaweed shells, spicy tuna, shredded krab, avocado, choice of sushi). (I prefer the sushi tacos to their regular tacos)

tuna, smoked in house salmon, and salmon

They also offer a variety of burgers with a few different protein choices.

atomic beef burger

Or maybe a pulled pork sandwich.

A few of the other things on the menu are all sushi, sushi rolls, sushi burrito, sushi burger, tuna pizza, wings, pizzas, salads, rice bowls, fish and chips, spaghetti and meatballs, pan seared sirloin and desserts.

There is a lot to taste at Headquarters Grill Bar Sushi in Peoria at P83.

All You Can Eat Shabu hits P83 in Peoria AZ at Manna BBQ and Shabu

Manna All You Can Eat Korean BBQ opened around September 2018 in the P83 area of Peoria (near the sports complex). They are a Californian Based Korean BBQ Restaurant with two other locations in Metro Phoenix. Now besides the BBQ they offer a Shabu all you can eat.

The shabu tables are set up slightly different from the BBQ tables with soup wells instead of a grill in the middle of the table.

You have several choices for your soup and pick as many meats as you care to start with. You can eat all you want for up to two hours for $24.99.

Then you hit the buffet.

You might want to start with cold shellfish.

Next case over are several kinds of fish cakes and tofu. They are not marked.

Then you got more choices. All kinds of noodles…one is marked cactus..???

Now to get your veg on.

Corn, yams, seafood mushrooms, enoki mushrooms cilantro, jalapeños, something I forgot (didn’t take notes) and Asian Squash.

Asian greens, onions, bok choy, bean sprouts and another pan I can’t make out.

A vanity of green onions, cabbage and spinach.

Various sauces, herbs, condiments, dressings and eggs.

By now your meats and soup you asked for are delivered to your table. Now you put whatever you want in your soup.

I just did my soup and now I have to wait a few minutes for it to get hot and cook.

I really like the seafood mushrooms a lot. They are an amazing flavor in Shabu…The hard squash aren’t done yet and need a few more minutes. I picked the tomato soup because I’m a big fan of tomato flavor with beef….It’s on the weak side….and gets even weaker when you add vegetables and meat to it. The Manna house soup is also on the weak side today. Maybe the other varieties are more flavorful?

I liked the vegetables and all the variety. The meats seemed to be shaved even thinner than last time. Each meat was an extremely small serving that cooked down to very little in the soup so you could try many.

The food seemed fresh and healthy and might be the only Shabu in this part of town.

www.MannaBBQ.com

Worth a try if you are in the area!

Here’s some photos from my last BBQ visit. (it’s more meaty than the shabu)

The Social on 83rd at P83 in Peoria AZ – Great Appetizers that are Worth a Fork!

The Social on 83rd is a relatively new restaurant in the P83 (across from Peoria Sports Complex on 83rd ave = P83) area of metro Phoenix that is considered to be the upper west side. This is a New American Restaurant that offers mostly American Foods some with global touches, Weekend Brunch and more!

They offer a lovely modern atmosphere and a variety of all kinds of seating.

Traditional tables, booths, benches with chairs, high top options…..

Seating at the bar.

Seating on the outside patio and the outside bar.

I’ve been here a few times now and so far I’ve found that the appetizers are especially notable….Possibly among the best to be found in the upper west side.

They took the Korean Style 24 hour short rib bun(s) off the menu but they were exceptionally delicious.

They’ve been replaced with Korean Style BBQ Tofu that has the same flavors and is just as delicious.

Here’s the Scotch Egg with Deep Fried Mustard Vinaigrette Greens. This was really good! The greens were made unusually tasty.

Another winning appetizer is the NY Strip Sliders.

These are very developed with flavors and the meat was tender like butter.

The next one isn’t the prettiest but it was the best fried macaroni and cheese ball that I tried so far.

Mac ‘N’ Cheese Balls from The Social on 83rd in Peoria at P83

The ones they served me were so cheesy and so flavorful. The pasta had perfect texture. They also seemed free of grease but I know they weren’t. The exterior breading was so crisp and thin. These were really REALLY GREAT! They also sat on top of a lemon herb aioli.

From a couple different visits the two salads I tried were very solid.

Jerk Chicken Caesar with Mango Caesar Dressing.

Cali Cranberry Salad with added chicken.

I hit them on an off night for dinner.

Someone new was cooking and dinners had under cooking and over cooking issues.

We did let them know about the dishes and our server and the chef were very apologetic. Dishes were re-made and were better …………………

I do note that every appetizer each time that I was here was delicious and very notable! Salads were GOOD!

The Social on 83rd in Peoria at P83 serves great appetizers that are Worth a Fork!

Manna BBQ in Peoria Arizona at P83 is Worth a Fork! (slight update…….Dec 2019…..now offers Shabu too!)

Manna BBQ is a California based Korean all you can eat BBQ restaurant located in Peoria Arizona in P83 across from the Peoria Sports Complex (with another location in Mesa AZ) . They offer the extra $21.99 menu of about 15 choices or the $28.99 menu of around 21 that include some more expensive meats such as ribeye and shrimp. Either menu buys you up to two hours of eating and you must finish the meats or they will charge you extra full entrée pricing for wasting……so don’t order more than you can eat. They offer seating at the bar and also booths with gas burners to cook the food.

On our arrival banchan (side dishes) were waiting for us already on the table.

The banchan were from top left mashed potatoes that might have been eggy, were sweet and also cold, bean sprouts, fish cakes, kimchi, Asian pickles and thin radish for wrapping around meat.

We started off with thinly sliced marinated beef called Beef Bulgogi, mushrooms, zuchinni, rice and glass noodles.

Just a few minutes later….

Gosh the beef was delicious! Tender like butter and nicely flavorful. Next we try a combo of chicken bulgogi and spicy chicken.

WOW! The chicken is also very tender and tasty. The spicy isn’t too spicy…but tasty. The Beef Bulgogi and both chicken dishes came out very good for us.

Next we tried brisket and beef belly.

Neither of these meats are marinated. I don’t know if we didn’t cook the brisket correctly but I really didn’t like the brisket (bottom meat in picture). I wasn’t too found of the beef belly either although it was slightly better than the brisket. Neither meat here had a whole lot of flavor. You had to use the dipping sauce for these meats to eat them.

My husband decided that he could eat a little more so he asked if he could have a small amount of pork belly to try.

He said the pork belly was very good. He forgot they offer a spicy version and would have went with spicy if he remembered.

Each table has a call button incase you need something but service was very good. I didn’t have to ask for a thing.

I’ve been to a few different Korean BBQ Restaurants in Metro Phoenix and they all have something different to offer…We only paid 21.99 for all you can eat. More upscale Korean BBQ will set you back at least $32.00- over $100.00 a person without being all you can eat.

For Mana BBQ’s friendly price point I’d have to say it’s a good value and Worth a Fork but be sure to try the Beef Bulgogi, Chicken dishes and Pork Belly.

Bulgogi is delicious, Chicken dishes, Pork Belly were all delicious……both of us weren’t crazy about the brisket and beef belly

I haven’t found a website for the Peoria location of Mana BBQ but they are on Facebook.

1st Taste at The Social on 83rd Restaurant at P83 in Peoria – Worth a Fork!

The Social on 83rd Restaurant and Bar recently opened in P83 section of Peoria Arizona (former location of Slick’s Garage). This area is also known as part of the Upper West Side. The Social on 83rd offers a full bar and an intriguing Modern American Global Menu with reasonable pricing. The atmosphere is clean and modern and maybe sort of lounge-like with a mix of all sorts of tables and booths.

The bench was very comfortable

Seating is available indoors and also outdoors. They offer an indoor-outdoor bar and a two level patio for dining or libations.

We shared two appetizers and a salad. The appetizers were reasonably priced and were larger than we expected them to be. We shared the Bao Buns that were filled with 24 hour short rib. The Buns were topped with pickled vegetables and came with a side of mandu sauce. ($8.50 – subject to change)

The menu reads Bun so we only expected one bun and not two. Inside the fluffy steamed bun was a generous amount of short rib that was compacted into a meatball sized ball. The meat was tender and the fat was cooked out. All together with the pickled vegetables and mandu sauce it was delicious!

The Mac ‘N’ Cheese Balls had a thin crisp exterior and creamy cheesy pasta inside that was prepared to perfection. ($7.50 subject to change)

Mac ‘N’ Cheese Balls seemed free of oil and were flavorful. They rested on top of a little lemon herb aioli.

How often to you come across a Jerk Chicken Caesar Salad made with iceberg, peppered pecorino and mango caesar dressing? ($9.50 subject to change)

The first thing I tasted was a crouton. It was buttery with a tender crunch. The Jerk Chicken was not spicy hot but very flavorful with allspice and other flavors. All together it was a delicious interesting salad.

That was my First Taste at Social on 83rd.
