Le Sans Souci French Restaurant Cave Creek AZ – 4 Course Brunch & Dinners – Yesteryears Prices

Le Sans Souci is a French Style full service family owned restaurant located in Cave Creek Arizona. They offer lunch, a regular menu, inexpensive early bird specials, inexpensive 4 course brunch, and inexpensive four course dinners. (at this time August 2022 subject to change the 4 course brunch is only $20.50 and the 4 course dinners aren’t so much more and are far less than even restaurant week pricing at around $27.50)

inside

They start you off with complimentary thin crisp bread, butter, and soft Arizona style bread.

For the 4 course Sunday Brunch ($20.50 subject to change) They start each person off with a tasting plate of smoked salmon, pate, avocado, shrimp, hard boiled egg, tomato, cornichon pickle and rice crackers.

Second course is a cup of soup.

Above is French Onion (with cheese $1.00 extra) and soup of the day (watercress soup…..taste very verdant)

My husband had the veal scaloppini a la Francaise.

Lemon, white wine, butter and capers on pounded tender veal. The entrees also came with braised cabbage, broccoli, and French style potatoes. This is not too shabby either.

I tried the grilled salmon with olive oil. I asked for medium but it was prepared well done.

The salmon had nice grill marks and the skin and most of the bloodline was removed. It also was a bigger portion than I expected.

For dessert we shared the banana cake and the chocolate mousse cake.

They taste like lots of Cool Whip to me on not the best cake. It might be better to pay extra and get the soufflé. I noticed the table next to us got one of the soufflés.

On a different visit we tried the 4 course dinner specials.

They come with a soup or fruit cup, salad, a choice of fourteen different dinners, and dessert.

We started with cups of vichyssoise and French onion (slight extra charge for French onion).

Next course was salad.

My main was the filet of sole meunière (lightly floured fried in butter with lemon).

It’s a larger portion than I was expecting. It’s not fish house quality but everything seems fresh tasting. The broccoli was prepared tender crisp and the zucchini was prepared very squishy.

My husband went for the beef brochette (tenderloin and bacon in mushroom sauce).

He said that it was pretty good.

Desert was a Napoleon and strawberry shortcake.

The desserts are neighbor or relative quality but hey….. four courses only were around $27.50 each.

Maybe I should have paid extra and tried a soufflé…..?

4 course brunch $20.50 and 4 course dinners (around $27.50) Yesteryears Prices! It’s cheaper than Restaurant Week every week! (even if you pay extra for a soufflé!)

Dynasty Chinese-American Restaurant Newly Opened Cave Creek AZ with Return Visit

Dynasty Chinese American Restaurant has recently opened in Cave Creek Arizona. They serve mostly Chinese-American favorites but they also offer other unique dishes like crispy Brussels sprouts, truffled filet mignon, and black truffle fried rice.

They are newly opened and on the day of my visit they are without a sign….The previous restaurant in that spot was J Chen and you see that very clearly where the sign was removed.

We walked in and were greeted ad seated quickly.

We started out by sharing the crispy Brussels sprouts.

The Brussels sprouts were crispy and tasty. They seemed like they were free of oil. They also gave us a very large portion and we sure didn’t mind taking some home for latter.

I was going to order the black truffle fried rice. I was told that they didn’t have truffles today but would have some tomorrow. I was thinking about ordering the sizzling sea bass but I didn’t know if they would do fish well so I thought for my first try here I’d try the Szechwan garlic chicken.

The chicken is masterfully moist (yeah!) vegetables are tender crisp. It has a nice heat to it. This is a very large portion….It is flavorful but it does run sweet.

My husband tried the kung pao with chicken, beef, and shrimp.

All the proteins are tender and moist. It is flavorful, a bit spicy, and it also runs sweet.

Went back for a second visit.

Started with the vegetable rolls.

They are expertly fried and are ever so slightly garlicky….

This time we got the black truffle fried rice with added chicken.

It does have a nice black truffle aroma….It’s really different. Most of the rice is steamed but some of the rice is crunchy and there’s soft fluffy egg. The chicken is very moist and tender. It’s subtle with truffle taste….I smell it more than I taste it until I hit a cluster of truffle dust. It’s also a little peppery. It’s really different…Never had a fried rice like this before.

We also shared the black pepper filet mignon. It comes out on a sizzling hot bubbling skillet. The filet is mixed with tender crisp red bell peppers and onions.

The filet is tender like butter. Honestly you can cut it with your fork. The sauce is slightly garlicky but you taste more black pepper like you should.

They have a sign now.

My Trip to Pomodoro Italian Grill and Seafood in Cave Creek AZ – A Different Taste of Italian

Pomodoro Italian Grill and Seafood is a higher end Italian Restaurant located just above Phoenix in Cave Creek Arizona. They offer appetizers, salads, fresh made pastas, fish and shellfish dinners, various meat dinners and a luxury tomahawk ribeye.

From the exterior to the interior it’s a very western looking restaurant like most things in the small Western Town of Cave Creek.

The tables are set with crisp linen, glassware, heavy silverware, a candle, and hand made plates.

They start you off with complimentary crusty bread and oil.

In interior of the bread is fluffy, moist and sort of sweet………It’s good but unique. I’ve never tasted bread like this in an Italian restaurant.

We started out by sharing the tasting trio of pastas (cacio e pepe, Pomodoro, and carbonara). To me this pasta is different. It is a different style with less tooth to it. The pastas are good but also are all unique and a little different from other similar pastas out there. My favorite of the trio is the Pomodoro (middle). The Pomodoro was made with very sweet farm fresh tomatoes and it’s laced with creamy rich cheese. It’s a more flavorful Pomodoro pasta than most out there because the pasta is also infused with tomato.

For dinner I had the Chilean Sea Bass.

The plump meaty mild fish was pan seared and was served over a stack of fresh grilled vegetables and was topped with a lemon butter caper sauce and came with a nicely grilled half lemon. The fish was fresh, moist and flaky. It was prepared to perfection.

My husband went with the veal osso buco.

It was slow braised and came with a mound of creamy polenta. It was good……but could have been braised in a richer deeper braising liquid.

Our server was efficient and knowledgeable.

Parking was easy because they have their own lot.

My Trip to Ofrenda Latin Restaurant in Cave Creek AZ*****Closed and OPENED Again!

*****Ofrenda Latin Restaurant recently opened in the beautiful little town of Cave Creek Arizona. At the moment (subject to change) they are currently open for dinner and bar starting at 3pm and weekend brunch. This is a unique restaurant that is two stories with two stories of wrap around patios. Inside is full of hand crafted things. Lots of warm wood and bright lively colored accents.

They also have an open kitchen.

We took advantage of dining outside.

We shared an appetizer called al carbon board. We received a very generously sized board. Nobody brought us silverware or napkins so we got up and got our own.

There are lots of grilled vegetables (carrots, yellow squash, asparagus), a soft cheese, pepita hummus, guacamole, fried hominy and fresh tortillas. I didn’t notice crispy pork skins on the menu so they were a surprise. (pork should never be a surprise on a menu …………certain people don’t eat pork) Anywho- The tortillas, cheese and some of the vegetables are very good.

I tell The Forking Truth so here it is……….This restaurant is newly opened so some of the execution is off.

You can see in the above picture one carrot is shriveled and very chewy and the one next to it is raw. The carrots were either raw or chewy. The hummus is unusually thick…..It should be a creamy dip and not crazy thick….like modeling clay.

The fried hominy is hard and chewy and is next to inedible. Our waitress did stop by to ask how things were but she came before I dug into the plate. I do have to note again that some things really were very good. The tortillas were fresh and delicious! The squash and asparagus were excellent. The cheese was very tasty. It also was a very large platter and I took a lot home.

Dinner was better. (but the staff left us mostly alone and we had to pour our own wine.)

Both of us had the trout tamal.

This dish is made of trout, fresh masa tamal with smoked trout seasoned with hoja Santa leaf and wrapped in a banana leaf with pea tendrils, water cress and apple mole. The fish was prepared reasonably well. We both really loved the apple mole….that really made everything special. The apple mole was really delicious! I think the tamal would have been even better without the smoked trout because the trout turned dry in it when it was cooked. But other than that it was a good dish.

It was nice that this wasn’t a heavy meal so we could share dessert. We tried the key lime pie.

The nut crust was PHENOMENAL…WOW I never had anything like this before. Trust me it was really great! It has this incredible light texture. It’s like a mouthful of snow that taste really great! I could eat a bowl of it…It’s just so light and delicious! Now we get to the curd…….

OMG….It must be a kitchen error. It seems like an accidental slip with lots of corn starch. The curd has a pleasant flavor but it’s so thick and heavy I can’t eat it.

Well that was my trip to Ofrenda Restaurant in Cave Creek AZ.

Vino & Panino Cave Creek AZ – Groovy Sandwiches

Vino & Panino is a little sandwich and wine restaurant in beautiful Cave Creek Arizona. They are in the spot where the original Binkley’s was. Vino & Panino is soon to expand to a full service Italian restaurant and pizzeria and take up all of this small strip mall eventually.

It’s small but friendly, cozy and fun. Psychedelic colors, Young Frankenstein on TV, disco balls, Sputnik light fixtures, flowers, a rainbow whisk, twister and so much more crammed in this little place.

Today’s menu

You order at the counter, pay and seat yourself.

I went with the angry turkey sandwich ($14.00) Fries ($2.00).

The bread is good quality bread and is nicely toasted. The menu reads roasted turkey but it taste like lunch meat turkey…to me…anywho ….I LOVE the giardiniera! It’s a BOMB of flavor and heat….It wakes everything up! The provolone cheese is delicious and it sticks to one side of the bread. You can fold it and make two sandwich treats. A tasty grilled cheese and a tasty turkey sandwich. The fries came out hot and are fluffy, a little crisp and seem free of oil. There is also a condiment bar behind me with very good pickles and Chicago peppers.

My husband went with the Castellano sandwich ($14.00).

It was made of hot gabagool, soppressata, 24 month aged prosciutto, pistachio mortadella and aged provolone.

I only ate half the bread so I’d have room for dessert and we tried pistachio and hazelnut gelato.

The gelato was $4.00 a cup. The texture was a little off with the pistachio…….it seemed a little dried out but the flavor of both gelatos was very good.

My Trip to The Creek Patio Grill in Cave Creek AZ

The Creek Patio Grill is located in Cave Creek Arizona. This is a casual full service American Neighborhood-Type Restaurant. They offer TWO patios (one patio is dog friendly) and indoor seating with personality.

The dog friendly patio
This patio entrance is from the inside of the restaurant

The middle of the restaurant has seating around a pizza oven.

There’s curved bench seating that circles the pizza oven and bar seating is located behind the pizza oven.

There are multiple dining areas and levels. (not pictured)

Glowing rock decor

My husband started with a cup of chili.

It was meaty with lots of beans and a generous amount of cheese. My husband said It was a little spicy and could taste cinnamon in it.

I had the walleye.

It wasn’t the meatiest walleye but then again this whole dinner only cost $21.00. The last time I came across walleye at AJ’s Fine Foods if I’m not mistaking the walleye was going for $40.00 a pound. This isn’t the same but was prepared reasonably well. It was covered in a lemony bur blanc sauce. Blistered tomatoes, fresh sweet basil and rice pilaf completed the plate.

My husband had the shrimp Alexander.

The grilled lemon elevated the dish. My husband thought the dish was good but could have been seasoned a little more for his taste.

The menu that The Creek Patio Grill offers is large and has a lot of variety. They offer many appetizers such as multiple sliders, kung pao chicken, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and entrees.

That was today’s trip to The Creek Patio Grill in Cave Creek. It’s a nice neighborhood type restaurant. You visit it if you are in the neighborhood and not from across town.

My First Taste at Bryan’s Black Mountain Barbecue in Cave Creek Arizona

Bryan’s Black Mountain Barbecue is located in beautiful Cave Creek Arizona. This is a casual order at the counter…..unique Barbecue Restaurant with a Cowboy type decor.

They offer the usual smoked meats that you expect and vegetable offerings that you might NOT expect.

Fried Artichoke Po Boy with Smoked Tomato Remoulade, Smoked Apple Cider Butternut Squash Soup and Vegetarian Pulled Squash Sandwich……..Sound so yummy and different! Ah what to order….BBQ or interesting vegetables.

We ordered, got a table number, got our beverages and sat on the patio since the weather was perfect.

My dogs would love to come here

Soon our name is called so my husband goes in to pick up our order.

The Firebird with Olive Cole Slaw and Baked Potato Salad

The Firebird is a half Chicken that’s tender, moist and flavorful. It coated in a sticky spicy sweet sauce that isn’t too sweet or too hot…….but it is hot. The bird rest over sliced white bread and a sweet pickled jalapeño pepper. The chicken is delicious…..I like the olive slaw…It not too drippy and it isn’t too creamy…It’s just right with crisp fresh cabbage. The baked potato salad was spiked with sour cream and is very dill forward. These sides are above average for BBQ places.

Two Meat Platter with Pulled Pork, Brisket Chili and Cowboy Beans

I tried the Brisket. I really like the smoked pecan flavor…..but today’s brisket runs slightly dry and they gave us from the lean point side …..But hey I usually hit BBQ places when the brisket runs drier than normal from the flat side. We also were talked into the Cornbread. We were told that it is special because it’s made with Brisket Drippings.

I think the cornbread is best not with the butter but combined with the Chili that’s enhanced with Brisket. This works best for me….Combined they are both better this way. My husband said the Pulled Pork and Cowboy Beans were very good.

I took most of the Firebird platter home so I could save room for a House Made Ice cream Sandwich.

It’s served a little too frozen…but it’s tasty…….I bet it’s probably much better when it’s hot outside… A couple of days latter we had the leftovers. WOW the cornbread tasted completely different when I heated it up in the oven….It was so smoky and it tasted like BBQ meat……It didn’t taste anything like this before…you must get them to heat the cornbread for you. The Firebird Chicken was still moist and delicious after re-heating.

That was my First Taste at Bryan’s Black Mountain Barbecue.
