*****UPDATE SLICK’S GARAGE NOW CLOSED********
Lightning strikes twice over the past week with two new independent restaurants opening in the P83 cluster of mostly chain restaurants in the Peoria Entertainment District.
The first to open was Headquarters.
Headquarters is a casual restaurant that offers a long bar with over 32 taps, lots of big screen TVs and a budget priced menu that’s all over the place with late night hours. They offer bar grub, hummus, pizzas, burgers, tacos, SUSHI and more!
We started with edamame.
The edamame gave off an intoxicating aroma from fresh roasted garlic and were just as tasty as they smelled.
For lunch I had the Three Tacos Plate.
I picked two Chicken and one Korean Beef Taco. All the tacos were served on soft flour tortillas. The non-traditional Chicken Tacos were tasty with tender white meat chicken breast, some tang and a mild heat. The Korean Beef were a little dry and chewy served on plain cabbage. I do note that the restaurant was newly opened at the time and possibly wasn’t set up to serve lunch. They were pushing a brunch menu that we and others weren’t interested in and might have offered the lunch menu just to get us in the door so we have keep that in mind.
My husband had the Pulled Pork Sandwich.
The Pulled Pork does run on the fatty side on a tender delicate roll. Onion Straws and a slaw add texture and flavors to the sandwich. We really liked that the nicely seasoned fries stayed hot the whole time we were here because of the thoughtful metal container.
Service was efficient and friendly, A nice addition to P83 located across from the movies.

Also in P83 in the same area is Slick’s Garage Bar and Eat.
They have a New Mexican Inspired Menu to offer in a Man Cave Collector kind of setting. There is a Harley Davidson Motorcycle in the middle of the floor surrounded by lots of antique toy trucks. The walls are filled with old signs and many collectable trucks. Gas pumps and old gas lights line the walls. There is so much to see.
I went with a sandwich called the Service Car.
It’s turkey, avocado, green chile, on grilled sourdough bread. The sandwich was also suppose to come with provolone cheese that I asked to be left off. I have to say this sandwich was forking delicious! It was a bit shy with the turkey but that combination of chile and avocado could make anything taste good. I had my choice of side and went with potato salad. I liked that is wasn’t drippy and more importantly it was seasoned just so.
My husband had the Carne Adovada Enchiladas.
His plate was like a New Mexican Lasagna made with Red Chile Pork, Cheese, Corn Tortillas and Chile Sauces with rice and beans on the side. He said everything was delicious.
Service was friendly and efficient.

Too soon to rate both restaurants but both left a positive impression with me. It just so great that two new independent restaurants have opened in this area where there are mostly only chain restaurants. It makes our choices for dining more interesting.
